WePhoto B&W 2017 Vol 5 Here comes yet another moment of pride for WePhoto while bringing out the next Book in ‘The Series’ representing the genre - Black and White (B&W) Photography. I founded the WePhoto Group in February 2014 and since then we have come this far simply out of our passion for this art form. Over the time, thanks to the continuous help and support of many likeminded colleagues, who have shared every moment of success while working together with equal enthusiasm, we have created other groups and thematic pages to better represent the various styles in photography. Today WePhoto group has the widest presence across Facebook representing almost every possible genre of photography. As of date there are twelve different groups and related pages, with picture boards on Pinterest and about seventy e-books published on issuu.com. This annual collection called - The Series - comprises eBooks, each belonging to a specific photographic theme, and includes the artwork of several authors from Italy and abroad. The one in your hands is the fifth thematic book dedicated to B&W Photography. Apart from the e-version these publications are available in the form of coffee table books too. Black And White Black and White (B&W) Photography belongs to an altogether different era and the interesting part is that the art form has not only survived all this long, it is thriving with innovations taking place every next time. Seems as if man is finding it difficult to come out of its spell. B&W comes with a rich heritage in the form of works of Ansel Adams, Henri CartierBresson, Edward Weston etc, who created masterpieces out of the constraints of equipment, tools and above all - color. But absence of the latter evidently came to their advantage and helped them see what would not be visible in a colored world. Colors dominate frame, its aspects and elements; and so a B&W photographer will rather focus on the potentials of placement, shape, pattern, texture, tonal contrast and above all flow and quality of light. B&W photography is way beyond mere conversion of a color photo to grayscale. It is about creation of fine art objects from the scene around us. B&W is inspiring, ethereal and will remain forever.

It's been a long time since I took pictures and I confess that in recent years I have resumed appreciating the "old" BW. When I was a boy, back a time, the photographs were printed only in BW. I believe that people, in general, and the monuments look better in BW. Anyhow I'm glad the BW is enjoying a new lease of life now. 10

www.facebook.com/AlicjaReczekWhiteAlice/ "Przez wiele lat związana z Płockiem. Obecnie mieszka i działa w Warszawie. Z wykształcenia: muzyk, plastyk i pedagog. Fantastyczne stylizacje i „zaczarowane” plenery. Intrygujące pozy modeli i modelek. A l i c j a m a s w o i m ko n c i e w y s t a w ę m i ę d z y n a ro d o w ą w Niemczech. Publikacje w Foto, EksMagazyn, Prime, Znaj i Vogue Italy. Zawodowo zajmowała się fotoedycją i fotografowaniem do magazynu. Doświadczona szkoleniowo. Od lat prowadzi warsztaty. Jury w ogólnopolskich konkursach. Ma w swoim dorobku sesje komercyjne: modowe, reklamowe i reportażowe. Jest autorką zdjęć do książek m.in. "Sukces jest kobietą" i "Kolory Nadziei". Jej zdjecia figurują na płytach muzycznych i tomikach poezji. Fotografie Alicji zostały wykorzystane w serii widowisk m.in. w Sali Kongresowej w Warszawie. Prywatnie. Miłośniczka dobrej książki, muzyki i podróży. Symbolistka i prekursorka. Kobieta silna i wrażliwa. Pełna kontrastów. Chodząca własnymi drogami indywidualistka. Innym razem empatyczna, otwarta i „do bólu” romantyczna. Czarodziejka... od kołyski."

Educated as an artist, musician and educator, a photographer out of passion and profession she currently lives and works in Warsaw. A sensitivity towards art and particularly oil painting, turned her permanently to photography. Her fans call her an enchantress or the White Alice due to the magical atmosphere she creates in her work, primarily drawn from Alice’s style. These are extraordinary colors, fantastic modes of expression and intriguing ways of her models’ posing. The viewers of the White Alice tend to say she creates “fairytales for adults”. Her art urges to a reflection, meditation and to perceiving the world with a different, magical eye. Her photos are mysterious and meaningful. Out of ugliness she extracts beauty. Alice’s work has been exhibited at the international exhibition in Germany. She has also been published in inter allia: Foto, EksMagazyn, Prime, Znaj and on Vogue Italy’s website. She worked professionally as a photo editor and a press photographer. She is experienced in conducting workshops and photo education (www.warsztatyfoto.eu) and is a member of a jury in photo competitions. More of her areas of expertise are: fashion, advertising and reporting photo sessions. She has also authored photo-books, a volume in poetry, done shows and music CD’s.
In her private time, she loves to delve in rich literature and a strong coffee. A Scorpio, symbolist and precursor – with a temper and lots of contrasts. She used to walk her own ways. Once an individualist, another time emphatic, open and “tragically” romantic. A perverse quintessence of femininity.

ERIK ELFERINK Amsterdam Holland

He worked there for nearly 25 years as a n a r t - d i re c t o r fo r s eve ra l n a t i o n a l a n d international advertising agencies. Then started his own business, called Mister E. dDesigns and iIllustration. During his career he worked with several great photographers and developed a passion for photography in general and in particular street photography. ‘There’s a whole other world out there if you’re willing to look at it carefully and without restrictions or boundaries. I try to make pictures of what I like to call ‘Frozen Moments’ in the daily rat race, trying to shoot personalities rather than people. To freeze their emotions and share them with as many people as possible. And show that we are all the same, black, white, whatever gender or religion it is. 34

Prossimo obiettivo? lavorare come fotografa.

‘I photographed. I photographed instead of talking. I photographed to not forget.’ Pennac said. My name is Maria Elena and I like to photograph everything I see and whatever fascinates me, whether a portrait, a travel reportage or a simple l a n d s c a p e . I s h o u ld l i ke t o t h a n k t h e Gruppofotografico Association93 that gave me the opportunity to learn the technique and to be able to publish some photos with them and to participate in exhibitions. I continued to improve the technique with the lessons of master Paolo Diani who made me fall even more in love with this art. I won three honors at the Natural World Photo and reached the finals at the Siena International Photo Contest. 46

MARIA GIOVANNA QUARANTA Villa San Giovanni, Italia

I started playing as a little girl with my dad's Thunderclub and then upgraded to my own Reflex in the '90s. For a couple of years, I've been contributing in a few Facebook groups, especially in Black & White, where I met some friends like Piero Polimeni and Alessandro Scendoni who, with their technical suggestions, have made the game turn into a real passion. I like all kinds of photography, in particular the portrait sets that I prefer. I believe that photography is now a part of me capable of transmitting emotions and at the same time getting out of everyday stress. It's a hobby that took my heart. 58

He has always been passionate about photography and visual arts in general. The great love for photography, the specialist studies and the intense years of practice have allowed me to reach high levels of knowledge and awareness of the photographic medium. The development of my post-production shots (Photoshop, Raw Room and Lightroom) has always been an important element, and this is worthy of a serious insight from the early versions. My experience ranges from wedding photography and landscape photography to fashion and portrait. For a year or two I decided to make available my knowledge in the way I love it, that is, by staying in touch with people and holding photography and post-production courses and workshops. In the workshops, I use a didactic method that is the result of years of practice and study borrowed by the best educators and communicators. Our urban surrounding fascinates me and draws my attention endlessly. The ever-growing city is a mix of proud shiny towers with worn aged buildings. In this blend of shapes and textures we live, work and interact. The city affects us and we affect it in an ongoing circle of symbiosis. My work reflects my visions and envisions of our urban surroundings- glamorous and sad, shiny and rusty. I am fascinated by the textures and rhythms hidden in the buildings people build. The same people who live in the city surrounded by their urban creations. Photography has been my passion for many years- a way to express myself and interact with my world. I started my journey with street photography focusing on the people of the city, the way they interact with each other, the way they interact with the city. Step by step I've learned to notice more and more of the symbiotic connection that the people have with their urban environment- its density, colors, lines, geometries and lights. My latest works, featured here are impressions of the way I envision this symbiotic connection between man and city. 82
