WePhoto Architecture 2020 - Vol. 5 Dear all, This following edition of The Series adds yet another feather to an ornate WePhoto cap. The genre this edition covers is Architecture Photography. Having perhaps the widest presence across Facebook, the WePhoto Group, has come this far in a short span of 6 years only because of our untiring passion for photography and the continuous help and support of my likeminded colleagues. We have worked together with equal enthusiasm to create several thematic pages to represent the various styles in photography categorically. Today WePhoto group stands tall with 12 thematic pages, picture boards on Pinterest, a dedicated web portal and more than a hundred twenty e-books published on issuu.com. These annual collections called - The Series - comprise of eBooks, each belonging to specific photographic theme, include the artwork of several authors from across the globe. The one in your hands is the fifth thematic book specific to Architecture Photography. Apart from the e-version, these publications are available in the form of coffee table books too.

Architectural Photography Not all buildings and architectural structures are made beautiful and not all great buildings may turn out equally good in the photographs, unless we have a deep understanding of perspectives or angles; and know how to see light. Having said that, I consider architectural photography and its post processing to be an arduous job, particularly when it goes beyond merely documenting an elevation and creates an objet d’art. It is only by using the right play of light whether in-camera or in post production or at times both - that a photo artist can add the desired contrast, shadows, textures and reflections to an image and make it stand out. Presented here-within is a compendium of some of the most powerful images that we are proudly able to bring under one cover. Hope you would love them as much as we did. Mario BunÄ?uga August 2020

ADOLFO CARLI Milano, Italia

facebook.com/adolfo.carli.7

I've been traveling around the world for the past 48 years and have always been fond of photography. Traveling allows me to capture street life extensively, but a lot of my photos are specifically photo-reportage.

During my travels I always include in my plans the most admired works of the famous architects in and around that area. I fondly call them Archistars. According to me, architecture planning and execution is the most important part of any construction. Architects can turn a bare piece of land into beautiful and functional buildings. It is their creativity that turns a building into a piece of art. This art is what I like to capture. Architectural photography is not about merely clicking the picture of a building. It includes a variety of styles like minimal, panorama, interiors etc and covers its era, detail, shape, form, purpose, and belonging. Each photographer interprets the building in their own way. 10

GIORGIO DE LUCA Roma, Italia

delugiorgio@gmail.com fotoarkitettura.com

Edited by: Antonella Vincenzi Editorial Manager: Franco Cosimo Panini Editor Spa

Born in 1954, Giorgio carries the memory of his native land, Salento in his heart and his eyes. A recurring theme in all his photographs is the play with light and how it breaks through. He keeps chasing for a situation where the light will create a drama. Light, as an architect of nature, that warms the tones of objects, and creates a texture combined with shadows, sometimes imparts shades of unusual color to the objects.

In Giorgio's photographs a constant is also his clear intuition as an architect, his ability to follow symmetries and perspectives, threedimensionality and movements. For him, closed or open spaces are an opportunity to search for balance, to curb an insatiable desire for knowledge. In fact, in all his shots you can feel emotion, charm, play, curiosity. The viewer can feel the soul of the picture as if there is life in every subject being photographed. 22

GIULIO MONTORIO Milano, Italia

facebook.com/EveryEarlyMorning

Giulio Montorio was born in Gallarate in 1967. Though he graduated in economics, he has always been passionate about photography. He started his urban photography project “Every Early Morning in 2015 as a facebook page on which he would post the photos of various architectural elements he took in the mornings using a smartphone.

He has been specially interested in Milanese architecture. Thanks to the immediacy of his work, his p h o to g ra p h s h a ve co n veye d t h e co n t i n u o u s architectural evolution of the Milanese panorama, one at a time, aiming at innovation in every aspect, integrating, and never disregarding the past. All his photos are enhanced by his predilection for black and white that allows him to highlight the geometric elements of the subjects shot. Since July 2019 he has begun to use a mirrorless camera to take his photos apart from the smartphone. 34

IZABELA NERAT Aia, Nederland

facebook.com/izabela.nerat pinterest.it/nizabela/boards/ 500px.com/izabelanerat

Izabela Nerat was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Her photography skills started taking shape during her days in The Hague, the Netherlands. In 1984-1985 she had attended the Vrije Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten, Fotografie and later, between 2000-2006, she studied painting at the same academy. She developed a technique on coloring and painting her B&W photos, which were later published by Spanjesberg as postcards. In 2013 she attended a digital photography workshop.

Iza Nerat has been teaching as a guest-lecturer in her former art school and focuses her teaching on colored and B&W photography. She has exhibited her collection of photographs ‘Portraits of Bosnian refugees’ in 1993 and 1994, at the Den Haag "Gemeente Museum" and “Gevangenpoort Museum”. On social media, Iza has active participation in various Facebook groups where she posts her works, that have earned her multiple awards. In her latest works, Iza goes deep into Dutch architecture, treating it with much intimacy and creating wholesome pictures. The photographic textures of her works express excellent handling of the technique and combine landscape sense between sky, ground and physical structures. In Iza's photos, the architecture highlights the formal and spatial aspirations of architects, combined with her delicate and deep sense of art. 46

MASSIMO PANIGIANI Siena, Italia

facebook.com/massimo.pianigiani.7

I am Massimo Pianigiani, from Siena, where I was born, still live and feel really excited to return to after every frequent commute for work. By profession and qualification I am an archaeologist. I normally use p h o to g ra p hy a s a s c i e n t i f i c i n st r u m e n t fo r documentation in daily activities at the site, in the laboratory, or at the occasion of museum installations.

My love for photography started in childhood. As an adult, my profession as an archaeologist always created a need to describe and preserve testimonies of the excavations we did. We needed to ascertain whether humans were involved in creating any particular artifacts which could help us understand that place’s history. All these years of careful, sometimes maniacal, observation led me to understand finer composition and develop my interest in photography, with a bent towards capturing modern architecture. I am interested in the play of lines, lights and shadows that architecture offers, sparking my creativity and producing an image of what I want my photograph to look like. There is also a question of whether to shoot in color or black & white. I am flexible, but when I look at a certain piece, I can visualize the end product and make up my mind on what treatment would the final vision need. Once I have made my decision, I barely change it afterwards. 58

RANA JABEEN Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

500px.com/drrana0207 1x.com/member/jrana instagram.com/jranu/

I am a dentist by profession, and a photographer and a globetrotter by heart. I am originally from Mumbai, India now residing in Riyadh. I was not a born photographer, however the camera took my fancy about 6 years ago. From early photography days, I was always drawn to lines, textures and geometry in architecture. During the course of my travel, I found urban landscapes/cityscapes and architecture intensely fascinating. I enjoy shooting long exposures, interiors, ceilings and people too.

My work has been published in many International Editorial Magazines and sites including Masterclass Magazine, Eye Photography, Smart Photography, Chiiz Magazine and the highly acclaimed and artistic 1x.com. I feel humbled to have received a few acceptances from FIP and PSA, including some gold medals, and having my work displayed at several international exhibitions. In my opinion photography workflow should include prior research of the place and location, reaching a spot well in advance, good observation, capturing the classic perception of the place, yet adding your own fresh viewpoint. This has to intrinsically be followed by a balanced, well-planned processing work. While photography is a passion for all of us, for me it is a way to connecting with myself. I feel a sense of purpose when someone tells me ‘I saw this image and I knew it’s your workʼ. 82
