1. The existing, on land, metro tracks shall be converted into a native green corridor that runs its course of the line. This green strip will incorporate, walking tracks and restore many natural fauna and flora species into the area.

Proposed Station to accommodate for the elevated rail. This is built on the exact same footprint as existing Station to reduce cost and optimise resources.

2. The elevated metro line is a modern solution to faster and safer public transport. 3. The pedestrian zone will encompass a coherent and collective space located outside of the train station that connects this transport hub to the food precinct east of the CBD. Ultimately, the vision for this space is to create community amongst Oakleigh's residents and visitors through cultural celebrations, markets and the incorporation of green space. Cumulatively, these three main visions aim to help enrich Oakleigh with a sense of identity and place through the urban planning decisions, and how these inform the residents lives.

The Station will also house various amenities such as bike storage, lifts and waiting areas to accommodate for the diverse range of metro users.

PUBLIC REALM AND PLACE MAKING - Permeability and Walkability - connect transport hub to the central food precinct - Safety, Liveability and Comfort - becomes a pedestrian zone, auto-free zone - Sustainability - modern public transportation coexists with green space (make good use of public space) - Efficiency - minimise traffic congestion

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENT - Street maintenance, landscape and decoration

ON GROUND RAIL

- Liveability and comfort

ELEVATED RAIL

- Reduce health issues caused by the environment - Promotes the idea of sustainable society 1

The green corridor utilises the now free space under the elevated rail, and also gives back to the biodiversity in the area.

COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION AND STAKEHOLDERS - Involvement in design process - Improved public transport - Higher living quality with enhanced public infrastructure and services - Cycling promotion provides healthy lifestyle - Food precinct pushes local businesses - Cultural celebration provides the resident a sense of identity and satisfaction

BUILDING DEVELOPMENT - Innovation - elevated railway with green strip running under the metro line - Safety - minimise any unnecessary train accident - Appearance - make the city look more attractive and well-developed

DESIGN STRATEGY - Cultural aspect - local market promotions and cultural celebration - Environmental aspect - restore native plants and integrate with buildings - Urban design team - based on community suggestions, starting from community perspective to achieve transit-oriented development with design excellence

The pedestrian zone is available to users once they exit the station. This allows a less chaotic and more welcoming and spacious entry to Oakleigh. All vehicular movement is diverted to the sides of this zone, where buses and taxis operate in a roundabout manner.

CRITIQUE Elevated Railway Line

This design thinks highly of the benefits of visitors and residents and designs from human perspective. For instance, citizens can feel safer and more relaxed when they walk on the transport hub, and the incorporation of a green corridor under the train line decorates the street and increases environmental responsibility.

Green Space

As Oakleigh is envisioned as a liveable and welcoming suburb with rapid development in transit orientation design and celebration in diverse cultures, our design principles focus on accessibility of the pedestrian precinct, an easy commute on the elevated metro line, incorporation of green space and cultural celebrations in the CBD, cumulating to a more liveable suburb. This design aims to bring together many different ideals in an urban scape and utilise the great culture and economic advantage Oakleigh has over many suburbs.
