The Marist School Blue & Gold Athletics Circle was established in 2003 to honor those who have made outstanding contributions to Marist School athletics. Selection takes into consideration personal excellence in athletics, academics, and service to Marist School and the community.

Heather Catlin ’01

Volleyball

At Marist, Heather Catlin exhibited outstanding leadership earning three letters in both volleyball and track and field while also serving as the volleyball team captain and student council president. Heather was a member of three high school state champion teams, named the 2000-2001 Gatorade Georgia Volleyball Player of the Year, awarded the Georgia Coaches Player of the Year Award, and featured in Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd.” At UNCChapel Hill, Heather earned a letter in volleyball and, in 2001, helped her team finish 12th in the country. She was also named “Most Outstanding Performer” on the team in 2002. Heather works as an anchor, reporter, and producer at WSB-TV, is a two-time Southeast Emmy winner, and lives in Atlanta with her husband and two children.

Billy Fawcett ’07

Swimming, Community Coach

Billy Fawcett earned a letter in swimming four of the six years he attended Marist School. Billy was also a two-time state champion, a three-time AllAmerican swimmer, and still holds the Marist School record in the 500 freestyle event. He attended The University of Georgia, and, after completing a degree in economics, returned to Marist as a community coach. In the five years he spent as a community coach, Billy helped the Marist girls swim team win three consecutive championships and helped the Marist boys achieve two runner-up finishes. While coaching at Marist, he completed his juris doctor at Georgia State University and plans to practice labor and employment litigation in Atlanta.

Susan Davis Harper ’89

Soccer, Volleyball

Susan Davis Harper was an avid volleyball and soccer player during her tenure at Marist School. In fact, she played on the boys soccer team in 8th and 9th grade because girls soccer was not available until 11th grade. Susan was an all-state athlete, and won both the Captain and Coaches Awards for soccer and volleyball. She played on two state championship teams—volleyball in 1988 and soccer in 1989. In addition to excelling in volleyball and soccer, Susan served as a peer leader, played basketball, ran track, and was a swimmer. After graduating from Marist, Susan attended UNC-Chapel Hill but didn’t stay away from Marist too long. She soon returned to Marist to teach math and served as a volleyball and soccer coach leading both teams to championship games in 1994 and 1995. Susan currently teaches math at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School. She and her husband, Brian, have three children, Caroline, Anna, and Davis.

Ena Leufroy ’05

Track & Field, Cross Country

In her senior year, Ena Leufroy’s leadership, dedication, and perseverance as captain of the cross country and track and field teams was recognized with the athletic department’s Dean Hargis Award. In 2005, she led the cross country team to its seventh straight win and broke the 25-year Georgia State track and field girls 800m record. The Atlanta Track Club awarded Ena the Woman of the Year for Cross Country and the Woman of the Year for Track four times each. She received a full scholarship to the University of Miami where she ran four years in the NCAA Division 1 National Track & Field Championship and earned the status of All-American Track & Field. Currently Ena works as an assistant coach inspiring and training middle and high school runners in Los Angeles.


Preston Lyons ’07

Football

While at Marist School, Preston Lyons was a dedicated member of the football program. He lettered and started for three years, and, in 2006, Preston and his team took the state runner-up title in Class AAAA. Preston broke the school records for career rushing yards and career touchdowns and was named the team’s most valuable back. He attended Georgia Tech where he played fullback from 2008 to 2011. In 2009, Preston and his team won the ACC Championship. He was chosen for the All-ACC Academic Football Team in 2011 and was a three-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll. After graduating, Preston became a founding team member at AchieveIT, a provider of cloud-based enterprise software for planning and execution. He lives in Atlanta with his wife.

Sean McVay ’04

Football

Sean McVay was a four-year starter as quarterback and defensive back and led the Marist School football team to a state championship in 2003 when he was named the Georgia 4A Offensive Player of the Year. He was the first player in Marist School football history to both rush and throw for 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons. After graduating from Marist, Sean attended Miami University where he played and started at wide receiver and earned Miami’s scholar-athlete award in 2007. Sean began his coaching career as assistant wide receivers coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2008 and he is currently the head coach of the Los Angeles Rams. Upon his hiring in January 2017 at the age of 30, Sean became the youngest head coach in modern NFL history.

Drey Mingo ’07

Basketball

In just two years at Marist School Drey Mingo earned numerous accolades. She was selected for the McDonald’s All-American Girls Game, named WBCA/Nike All-American, Parade Magazine fourth team All-American, and first team Class AAAA all-state. While leading her team to a 26-4 record and second consecutive state title game, Drey also joined the National Honor Society and served as a peer leader. Drey attended Purdue University where she played women’s basketball and was named captain from 2010 to 2013. She was selected for the Academic All-Big Ten, the Associated Press All-American, the Big Ten Tournament Most Outstanding Player, and received the Giant Steps Courageous StudentAthlete Award and the Brady Comeback Award. She later played professional basketball in Belgium and Poland where she led the FIBA Polish League in scoring and rebounding in 2015 and won the Polish Cup Championship in 2016. In 2017, she plans to follow her dream of becoming a pediatric cardiologist.

West Streib ’01

Golf

In the four years West attended Marist School he was a three-time state champion with his team, and also earned individual all-state and all-region titles. He attended the University of South Carolina where he lettered all four years as a student, and was named the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Academic AllAmerican in 2005. After college West was a nationally competitive mid-amateur golfer. Currently West is managing partner at Buckhaven Capital and is a CFA Charterholder. In his spare time, he is a volunteer coach for the Marist boys varsity and junior varsity golf teams. He lives in Atlanta with his wife Ginny and daughter Mary Virginia.


Bianca Svennson ’06

Tennis

Bianca earned a letter in tennis each of the four years she was at Marist. In addition, she won four state championships, was awarded all-state status three times, and achieved all-American status four times. At the University of Alabama, she helped the women’s tennis team achieve a national rank of 16th and earned SEC Academic Honor Roll. After graduation, Bianca became the assistant women’s tennis coach at Washington and Lee University, where she helped her team win the first ITA Indoor Championship in school history. Bianca went on to coach at the University of Southern Mississippi for two years while earning a master’s degree in sports administration. She ended her outstanding coaching career at Samford University where she helped lead the tennis team to the first Southern Conference Championship in program history. Bianca graduated from Samford’s Cumberland School of Law and has moved back to Atlanta with the intention to practice law.

Service Award Jay Mannelly Jay Mannelly got involved with Marist School athletics when his sons, Bernard Mannelly ’88 and Patrick Mannelly ’93, began attending the school. He has been an ardent supporter for the past 34 years. He served as the president of the Marist Booster Club from 1989 to 1990 and has been a member of the school’s Board of Trustees since 2009. Grandsons Joseph Mannelly ’17, Ryan Mannelly ’19, and Andrew Mannelly ’22 are carrying the torch for the family legacy at Marist. Jay received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and his MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He serves as principal at Bullock Mannelly Partners and resides in Atlanta with his wife, Elvira.

Bill Young, Jr. ’75 Bill has been a dedicated supporter of Marist School athletics since his time on the football and basketball teams as a student-athlete. His sons, Bill Young, III ’11 and Brandon Young ’13 also played football and basketball for the War Eagles. After Marist, Bill attended the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia. He is currently partner of General Wholesale Company, a family-owned beverage distributing company. In addition to supporting their children’s activities while they attended Marist, Bill also served on the school’s Board of Trustees from 2007 to 2015. In 2016, the Bill ’75 and Margaret Young Gym in Centennial Center was dedicated and named in honor of the Young family’s generous support of Marist School and The Way. The Hope. The Promise. capital campaign. Bill lives in Atlanta with his wife, Margaret.


Each of these talented individuals has shown exemplary dedication to Marist School athletics, and their accomplishments beyond Marist are admirable as well.
