Concrete was utilized in order to create a stable, strong, and flexible building. This gives the illusion of being heavy, yet still portraying the idea of being a floating mass.
Conceptual Development
The use of curtain walls is the most remarkable detail in the MOEA which allows natural light to travel around the interior spaces. The intricate design of the mullions creates an interesting shadow casting in all of the three levels of the Museum. The courtain wall system has a customized wooden mullion in which will motivate people to examinate them and enjoy the pattern that was designed.
Winter Solstice
By analyzing the sun path, the design was able to determine the angle utilized in the South facing wall in order to design the curtain wall and benefit from the natural light but also to create a more sustainable building.
Summer Solstice
During the warmest days of the year, the slanted curtain system will block the mayority of the natural light so it doesn’t ruin the artworks, but at the same time it will iluminate the interior spaces without taking the comfort of the guests.

Ground Object
The continuous apertures along several faces of the building make possible the natural lighting to illuminate most of the areas without the use of many artificial lighting. The articulations create intended shadows along all the faces and generate different illusions on each. The material utilized was concrete, which made possible that each segment is unique and has different pattern on it because of the natural wood framework.

The relation of figuration and ground is based on fluidity and the correlation with each other. The ground strengthens the gravity defying illusion by its placement and creates an overhead positioning in which the people are invited to enter through the bottom of the building. While the interior spaces are open and widespread, the circulation is simple and unobstructed by any walls or dividers along the space. The interior formations are related by the tension between each and other.
