Balloon flight Our stone baked pizzas aren't the only thing flying out the door! Whisked away earlier this year, a few of our managers were treated to a hot air balloon flight by Taittinger.
Starting at Hambleton Hall in Oakham the lucky four alongside Joanne Finkel, the UK representative from Taittinger, sat down for afternoon tea before preparing for lift off. Atop of the Hambleton peninsular, there couldn't have been a better way to start the afternoon than sipping a glass of Taittinger Rosé while enjoying some of the best views Rutland Water has to offer. Once the tea (and the champagne!) was finished, the group made their way down to the launch site. As this is situated at the lakeside, the group did not have to sacrifice a second of the superb views! Unfortunately, windy conditions that day meant that the flight had to be postponed…
the balloon finally landed in a field in Langtoft village, which was quite a surprise for the landowner! Luckily enough, the representative from Taittinger had a bottle of champagne in hand to thank, and apologise, for the unexpected visit. The owner kindly let the group stay a while longer, which allowed them to tuck into an assortment of traditional nibbles you’d expect to find in any British picnic hamper. While the scones, pork pie and scotch egg went down a treat, a vintage bottle of Taittinger champagne was opened to end the day in style!
…Not for long however, as the next day bright and early at 7am the group, including Pete Dalby their pilot for the journey, boarded the basket and prepared for take off! As with our previous creations, Nigel from Hopshackle Brewery has used the expertise he applies to his own award winning beers to help us create a perfect pint packed with flavour especially for you! Keep your eyes peeled for ‘Ewes’ Brew’, a 5% IPA, on our bars.

Pie Month
Our chefs are going to be serving up a different homemade pie each week for you across KNEAD pubs this October. Pair one of these pies with a pint and it’s a match made in heaven.

Sit, sip and savor with Taittinger!
For Friday 11th November, our chefs at The Crown Hotel have especially designed a menu to accompany a fine selection of Taittinger champagnes. Joanne Finkel, the representative from Taittinger, will be hosting the evening to give you a little history behind the making of their champagnes, which there will be no short supply of!
For each of the three courses, and canapés on arrival, a different type of bubbly will be available for you to try. The champagne on ice? Brut Réserve NV, Prestige Rosé, Brut Vintage 2008, Nocturne Sec NV.
Please leave your best dresses and tuxedos hanging at home as the evening has been designed for your enjoyment; smart casual will be perfect for the occasion. Expect shared tables as, just like the dress code; the table plan will be relaxed. Most importantly, don’t forget to book! When you do, arrive promptly at 7pm.

New Years Eve at The Tobie Norris - £40 per person
Out with the old, and in with the new! Instead of the usual cold buffet as seen in years past, our chefs are whipping up an array of mini dishes and puddings for you this New Year’s Eve! Don’t know what to expect?
With a drink in hand, the night will be kick started with tapas and nibbles. Then up comes the main dish, or should we say dishes! There will be seven different mini mains per person, including: fish and chips, beef burger, lamb tagine, beef and ale pie, game hot pot, chicken Caesar salad and a lamb kofta kebab, plus all the extras... We know, it sounds a lot! But for those who have a sweet tooth, fear not. Each main will be perfectly sized to leave room for pudding: lemon tart, apple crumble tart, chocolate brownie, passion fruit cheesecake, and an assortment of macaroons- all equally sweet in size! Finish the night with a selection of British cheeses complete with pickles, fruit, and of course, a glass of port. Where can I buy? At the Tobie Norris.

New Years at Smith’s of Bourne - Free entry
Pennyless, a Lincolnshire based band, will see the New Year in at Smith’s with a mixture of songs from Irish, European and American roots. A musical mixture cooked up with flutes, fiddles, whistles and mandolins (plus more!), it is easy to see how Pennyless have been called one of the most hard-working bands in the area. Expect to hear folklore alongside their own material, all of which is guaranteed get you off your seat and dancing the night away! Free entry all night, music starts at 9pm.
New Years at The Prince Rupert - £10 per person
Join in the fun at The Prince Rupert this New Year’s Eve and get transported back in time with a Civil War themed party, complete with stocks! Singing a variety of pop and rock covers from big names, Lincolnshire’s The Diplomatz are going to bring over forty years worth of live music experience to the party to help you see 2017 in with a bang!
Open from 8:30pm. Tickets are £10 per person, each including one free selected drink. Tickets available at the bar. Fancy dress preferred, but optional.
