Colleagues: I am pleased to announce that the SFMTA has released a new smartphone application for iPhone and Android users, Muni+™. The new Muni+ app was developed by Sky Highways, Inc. exclusively for the SFMTA and is now ready for soft launch. At this time, we are inviting both Muni employees and customers to take the new Muni+ app for a test drive. Convenient new features include social media access The new Muni+ phone app puts useful Muni system information—designed to enhance the overall travel experience—directly into the hands of our customers. Features include 511 and SFMTA transit updates; complete Muni system maps; schedule and fare information; live NextBus Muni information; nearest stop locator; route and trip planning; Clipper® card balance; and social media access via Twitter. Our on-screen Twitter portal will enable customers to link directly to Twitter to share comments, suggestions and photos. In addition, the new Muni+ app will have the ability to generate new revenue for the Agency through advertising. Why the soft launch? The first versions of the Muni+ app were made available to iPhone and Android App Stores on Monday, April 16. We are asking for trial users during this soft launch in an effort to gather customer feedback to improve the functionality of the app prior to a wider public launch in August. Customer support Sky Highways will be the exclusive provider of customer support for the new Muni+ app. Should employees or customers have questions, problems or feedback regarding the functionality of the app, Sky Highways can be contacted using the help function accessible through the Muni+ app home screen or by clicking on the support tab online at www.muniapp.us. Help us invest in the future! Smartphones have become an integral part of our daily lives. Mobile phone applications like the new Muni+ phone app will allow customers to access vital transit information remotely with the touch of a button. Sky Highways will be asking trial participants for input, ideas and preferred features for Version 2.0, to be released later this summer. This centennial year marks a new beginning for Muni. I encourage all employees with iPhone or Android smartphones to download the app today at www.muniapp.us. Be a part of our trial group and help us move Muni into the future.
