1994 The University wins the first of seven Queen’s Anniversary Prizes for Higher and Further Education
1989 Her Majesty the Queen visits the University – the first royal visit in its history
1909 A Technical Institute is established in Loughborough
1915 Herbert Schofield becomes the first Principal of the Technical College
1916 The Institute begins training munitions workers for the war effort
1979 Students’ Union building opened by Monty Python’s Michael Palin and Terry Jones
1920 Newly named Loughborough College granted its own Armorial Bearings
1937 School of Athletics, Games and Physical Training created
1958 Burleigh Estate is bought by the College

One of the campus’ most iconic buildings – The Towers – is opened as a hall of residence
1966 Loughborough College of Advanced Technology becomes Loughborough University of Technology, after being awarded a Royal Charter in recognition of its excellence and achievements to date
