Institute of Leadership & Management Award in Leadership and Management Level 3 tailored for Loughborough University Staff


ILM Award in Leadership and Management Level 3 What is the ILM Leadership Award? This accredited programme is based on high impact interactive workshops that will help you improve your management & leadership practice. It will equip you with a clear understanding of leadership concepts and how to confidently apply these at work.

What level qualification is the Award? In terms of national qualifications framework (QCF) ILM Level 3 is equivalent to A Level.

Who is the programme for? ILM Level 3 is aimed at any team leaders & managers from Grade 5 to Grade 7, but is also a good foundation programme for: n Anyone in a higher management grade

who has not previously attended any leadership development.

n Team leaders/managers new into post. n People currently in a team leading or

managerial role, who have already completed level 2 or equivalent.

How is it delivered? The programme consists of 5 full day workshops and some work will be required between workshops, including some written reflection work and preparation for your final presentation, which is assessed. Programme units include: n Understanding Leadership

This unit will cover the different leadership styles and qualities. You will review your own leadership qualities and potential. n Leading and motivating a Team effectively

This unit will deal with connecting the team with the vision and strategy. You will learn the importance of being able to motivate teams and individuals to achieve objectives. The unit also covers the role the leader plays in supporting and developing the team.

n Understanding performance management

This unit covers how to set performance standards. You will learn about setting SMART objectives for the team. The unit also covers how to measure performance against agreed standards.

n Managing Resources to Ensure Value for Money This unit will explain the importance of agreeing a budget and how to work to that budget. You will understand costs within the University.


Assessment Info

What we ask of you:

Participants are assessed by reflective reviews, case studies, work-based assignments and a presentation.

Once registered you have made a commitment to complete the Award. It is your responsibility to learn and put what you have learnt into practice. You will need to hand any work in on time and keep your line manager informed.

What support is available? n Full tutor support (up to two hours). n All workbooks and some additional material

and resources will be available to you.

If you register on the level 3 programme you are agreeing to the following time commitments: n 5 days face to face delivery, one day a week

over 5 weeks.

n Time to prepare and complete a work

based assignment.

n Time to prepare a presentation. n Additional reading to improve your knowledge

of the subjects.

Register on a briefing session In order to attend any of the ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) programmes it is essential that you first attend a briefing session. The briefing session allows you to learn more about the content of the programme, the level of commitment involved and also the standard of work you will need to achieve in order to gain the qualification. There is no obligation to register for the programme, but we do encourage you to come to a briefing and find out about the course content from the people who deliver it.
