Social and recreational sport There are a huge range of opportunities to play sport and be physically active whilst studying at Loughborough. These include free, competitive sporting offers that allow students to play in both weekly leagues and a series of one day events. You can represent your halls of residence, department, society and/or participate as a group of friends.

We also have ‘My Lifestyle’ which is an inclusive programme that creates an environment that is free from competition, expectation and commitment for those who want to exercise and keep fit.

Coaching and volunteering opportunities Gain industry-specific and qualifications in sports coaching, volunteering and leadership with Loughborough’s Coach and Volunteer Academy. Para sport Loughborough is home to one of the highest populations of Para athletes in the UK, including student athletes and those who use Loughborough as a training base. Para sport is rapidly evolving at Loughborough and there is something for everyone, from recreational sport through to performance sport as well as research and placement opportunities.

Facilities Our reputation for sporting excellence is unrivalled and we’re lucky enough to have a variety of world-class facilities right here on campus. This includes two state-of-the-art gyms, an indoor athletics centre, an outdoor stadium, multiple sports halls and all-weather pitches, a 50m swimming pool, indoor and outdoor tennis courts and the National Cricket Performance Centre.

Loughborough Students’ Union

Right at the very heart of our award-winning student experience sits Loughborough Students’ Union (LSU), which is owned and run entirely by our students.

A constant hive of activity, by day the Union is a busy meeting place and coffee bar complete with a shop, a Chinese restaurant, a hair salon, a gastropub, an optician, a dentist, a taxi rank, and a pharmacy. At night, it transforms into a 4,000-capacity nightclub with three separate rooms, each playing a variety of music and hosting events across the week. Ultimately, the role of the Students’ Union is to ensure that Loughborough remains the very best place to be a student. Whether we’re working to enhance your experience or your CV, ensure your personal development or just support you, students are at the heart of everything we do.

Societies With over 170 clubs and societies to get involved in outside of your studies, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Societies are student-run groups that offer opportunities to continue hobbies, learn new skills and make lifelong friends. They harbour an incredible sense of community and there is something for everyone to enjoy – from breakdancing and yoga to surfing and singing, University is about so much more than just your degree.

Volunteering and fundraising opportunities Students can get involved in a variety of exciting fundraising opportunities with LSU Rag, who raise over £1M every year for local, national and international charities – recent adventures saw them trekking Mount Kilimanjaro and cycling from Paris to London. LSU Action volunteers can get involved in a variety of projects in the local and wider community, including as far afield as Mexico and Nepal.

Get involved There are lots of other ways to get involved, too. From working with LSU Media across radio, TV, or our student-led magazine, to joining forces with our Welfare and Diversity Section to promote positive health and wellbeing on campus, there’s so much you can do to gain valuable experience around your degree.
