START The Students’ Union (map ref. 86) is the hub of both the social and welfare networks for Loughborough students. Entirely run by Loughborough students, the Union is home to over 100 clubs, societies and Athletic Union (AU) teams. It has its own radio station and recording studio as well as the employment exchange, student advice and RAG (student fundraising organisation). During the day students can eat at one of the several cafés, while at night a weekly programme of events regularly fills the bar and nightclub to its capacity of over 2500 – making it Loughborough’s largest night time venue.

The Wolfson Building (map ref. 18) is home to Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, and directly opposite is the Chemical Engineering and Materials Building (map ref. 13). A short way down past the Wolfson Building is the Sir Frank Gibb Building (map ref. 19), home to Civil and Building Engineering. Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering, Mathematics, and Physics are housed in the Sir David Davies Building (map ref. 14) on the opposite side of the road.

The Stewart Miller Building (map ref. 12) is home to Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering. Look through the curved glass section where you will see a technology demonstrator aircraft.

This area of the campus is the location for a range of world class sports facilities. The Seb Coe High Performance Athletics Centre (map ref. 81) boasts one of the best indoor athletics facilities in the country. Adjacent is the Paula Radcliffe Athletics Stadium, and a little further up the hill is the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) National Academy (map ref. 79), opened in 2003 by Her Majesty the Queen. Beyond the Cricket Ground is a football pitch, water-based hockey pitch and a rubber crumb pitch, all available to hire.

Village Park is a close community of halls of residence accommodating over 2000 students. A place in a hall of residence is often the key to a successful start to university life. It opens the door to new friendships, and helps you to discover new student experiences. At Loughborough there’s plenty of choice and flexibility, with seven catered and seven self-catered halls, all offering great value for money. club, to play fixtures against Loughborough Students.

6 Feel free to wander inside the Pilkington Library (map ref. 24) for a look around, although please be aware that this is a quiet study area. The Library opened in 1980 and houses over 500,000 books and 90,000 bound serials; it also offers access to approximately 19,000 e- journals. Pilkington Library is buzzing with students using the range of computer spaces; private or group study rooms as well as Café 641, so called because 641 is the library referencing number for food and drink.
