Still Time to Give If you forgot the toy you bought to bring to the employee Christmas party, you still have time to turn it in! The Merced Fire and Kops for Kids will be collecting the toys at the volunteer luncheon, so make sure you bring your toy donations to Janice Wilkerson in the Spiritual Services office by December 18th. (New, unwrapped toys only)

At this time of year, there is a lot to do to get ready for Christmas— decorations, planning and attending holiday get-togethers, shopping and wrapping gifts. But are you also getting ready spiritually.

During this season, let’s get ready by a habit of “Pass it on”. Has someone been thoughtful, kind, helpful to you? See what you can do to do the same for another. Practice each day. By Christmas, you can have a basketful of gifts for the Lord.

Can vested employees stay on the old retirement plan?
A:
We understand that there are always concerns about changes in benefits, including the Pension Plan. First, all employees should be reassured that any retirement benefits that you already earned are yours to keep. Whenever we make changes, the changes only impact benefits earned in the future. Dignity Health, like other companies with pension plans, evaluates its plans on a regular basis, so that we can make sure we are keeping them as financially strong as possible and that our retirement programs are competitive. If changes are made in the future, we will assess whether certain groups of employees can remain unaffected or whether we think the changes should apply to everyone.

Claudia Llamas answered a call in room 23. It was one of our routine clinic patients. The patient stated that she was depressed and wanted to commit suicide. The patient’s speech was slurred and she recognized the patient as having mental health issues.

Claudia remained calm, even though she had no way to immediately let someone know what was happening. The lead clinical specialist had walked by the room and Claudia flagged her down and let her know what was happening by writing a brief bit of information on paper so as not to alarm the patient. While the lead clinical specialist came in to inform management, Claudia continued to talk to the patient on the phone. After we called 9-1-1, she continued to talk to the patient to assure her safety until the police arrived. After the event, Claudia was still shaking but was calm and happy she could help a patient in need. This is just one incident of how special and caring Claudia is.

This was the last employee Christmas party David Dunham will be attending as our President. However, we hope it’s not the last one he will attend.
