Inside information for the employees of Mercy Medical Center

Memory Tree Displayed in the main lobby from February 1 - 27 Each person, whether family member, patient, or coworker, who has touched our lives in a special way is a gift to be remembered. During the month of February, there will be a special Memory Tree in the lobby. For the rest of February, you can ask a volunteer at the front desk for a bird or a heart to write the name(s) of the person you wish to remember. You can then go hang that ornament on the Memory Tree. The Spiritual Services Department invites Staff and families to join in remembering those who have died with a Memorial Service to be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2015.

“Goodness is about character - integrity, honesty, kindness, generosity, moral courage, and the like. More than anything else, it is about how we treat other people.” -Dennis Prager

Living Spirituality By Sister Lucille Carreau, DHS Spiritual Services Supervisor

Thought:

Love in Action

May we love ever more. May we motivate ourselves to committed love in action. May we motivate ourselves to live the life we wish to see in the world. May we be the transformation we wish to see in the world. From the inside out… From the roots branching upwards… From the heart to thought to word to action. Through life’s trials and hardships We can arise beautiful and free. - For Luna – Julia Butterfly Hill The World Prayers Project www.worldprayers.org

Action:

Take a moment to think about our roots as a hospital—a history of Christlike-service, the dedication of the Dominican Sisters, the many humble ways they served, striving for excellence in serving Jesus through our patients and their families. Where did your roots of service originate?

Bernardo “Bernie” Piniol 1953-2015 Bernie was strong yet, had the gentlest of touch. He walked with determination but always took time to listen to his patients and co-workers. He was an educator, teaching, and sharing knowledge every day. His passion was nursing and humankindness was his specialty. But most of all he was there when you needed him.

Bernie started his career on 2 West at the county hospital in 1981. He has worked at many different positions in; Surgery, Cath. Lab, Recovery Room, Pre-admission, Discharge Planning, Peer Review, Home Health, and Quality Assurance. His co-workers say his favorite place was by a patient’s bed helping them understand and get through their hospital stay. He was loved by his patients, co-workers, and we will miss him dearly. He is survived by his wife Mary, son Marc, and 4 doggies.
