Mercy Medical Center and Ebola Readiness
Here is an update on the Plan we have been working on to prepare ourselves since then:

Mercy’s Core Team
We have been working diligently here at Mercy to put all the pieces in place to help us become Ebola ready. David Dunham has assembled a Core Team to oversee our facilities preparation. HealthStream education was assigned to all employees in midOctober when Ebola first appeared on our radar.

Fill your plate with superfoods From Left: Vanessa Collins, Carrie Grissom, Philip Brown
• An Ebola Response Team has been put together from volunteer medical staff in the ER, here at Mercy, willing to care for a possible Ebola patient. This team will come in and take over the care of any individual who meets the Center for Disease Control & Prevention’s (CDC) criteria for possible Ebola. The team will be kept updated and trained on the correct use of the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) per current CDC guidelines.
• The Core Team has been attending teleconferences/webinars/ meetings held at the local, system, state and federal levels in order to keep up with the latest recommendations.
Each of the next several In Roads will feature a different superfood and its health benefits.
Beans
The Core Team is committed to restricting the exposure to a suspect patient by unnecessary staff. Our plan does not allow for anyone who has not been specially trained on the use of the appropriate PPE to gain admittance to a possible Ebola patient.
• The PPE we have here at Mercy both meets and exceeds the CDC’s current recommendation, in order to provide the best protection for our Response Team.
The Core Team consists of Philip Brown, ED Director; Vanessa Collins, Infection Preventionist; Carrie Grissom, Emergency Preparedness Manager; and Alex Ortega, ED Manager.
• Multiple readiness drills have already been conducted here at Mercy, with plans for several more.
Please feel free to stop any one of the team members should you have any questions or concerns.
Beans, beans, the magical fruit; the more you eat, the more ... you lose weight. Black, kidney, white and garbanzo beans (also known as chickpeas) all end up on superfood lists because of their fiber and protein. They fill you up and provide muscle-building material without any of the fat that meat can add to your meal.
Frequently Asked Questions From the 2014 Open Forums
Q:
Can these ads be made more local? People in our town know the name of our hospital, not the name Dignity Health.
New Employee Welcome - November 3, 2014 Alejandro Aceves Rios - United Way Archana Chang - 7th Floor Katherine Dunn - Nutritional Services Linda Jursa - Family Practice Clinic Lilliana Sanchez Prado - Radiology Lyat Silveira - Marketing Sarah Fuentes - Family Birthing Center Holly Weber - Patient Financial Services
A:
We have created a mix of advertisements; all designed to both convey the uniqueness of our care delivery (what we call, “humankindness”) and link “Dignity Health” to our facilities. Some are very strong in making facility connections, some are less so. All of the service line ads have hospital/facility names associated, and many of the brand ads do as well.

Kettle Corn One snack is lightly sweet, a little salty, perfectly crisp, doesn’t fill you up and goes with every occasion. Kettle Corn’s been adding to the fun for over 200 years.
Cheddarific Divine real cheese with the piquant cheddar taste you love, soaring to new heights on the crisp crunch of gourmet popcorn.
Macadamia Magic Sweet, creamy Macadamia nuts with their own soft crunch are paired with fluffy popcorn in a crisp, brown sugar glaze that magnifies their delicate, buttery taste.
White Chocolate Peanut Butter Our sweet, salt-kissed Kettle Corn is hand-drizzled with peanut butter and then with white chocolate. You’ll find that it’s crunchy, salty, nutty, creamy, dreamy – and gone.
Better Salt ‘n Pepper The scent hits the air and your mouth waters. You notice the cracked bits with their peppery bite, taste the sea salt’s wealth and the corn’s heartiness. There are salt & pepper shakers; then there’s salt & pepper that shakes you.
Nutty Caramel Imagine almonds in light, buttery caramel with a touch of brown sugar. Add caramel cashews, caramel peanuts, and of course, perfect caramel popcorn. Nibble. Smile. Repeat.
Spicy Cheese With opposition comes clarity. When you pair the spicy bite of jalapeños with the cooling creaminess of crisp Cheddariffic popcorn, it’s clear you have a winner!
Brown Sugar Caramel Popcorn perfection. Light, sweet, crisp, with buttery undertones and luscious, classic caramel flavor.
