Low-fat dairy is an important part of any superfood-focused diet. Studies show that women who consume approximately 1,400 milligrams of calcium per day burn more fat than their nondairy-eating counterparts. Yogurt in particular helps reduce the production of cortisol, a hormone that can slow metabolism.
Frequently Asked Questions From the 2014 Open Forums
Q:
How can you show that these Hello humankindness ads make patients come to a Dignity Health facility for care?
A:
Our Hello humankindness brand campaign has two objectives in terms of marketing: awareness and preference. We introduced the concept of humankindness as a way of making consumers aware of who we are and what we stand for. Dignity Health is still a relatively new name in the marketplace. With a relatively small advertising budget in comparison to our competitors, we have placed messages in the marketplace that are very different than the rest of health care advertising in order to be noticed. Additionally, we connect humankindness to “Dignity Health” as well as our hospitals and care centers so that consumers will prefer our health care services when they have a choice. Running currently with the brand advertisements are specific service area ads that directly promote key hospital or regional service lines. It is this “surround sound of messaging” that allows us to more effectively utilize our resources to break through the clutter and be noticed. And to that end, we routinely measure awareness and preference of consumers in all service areas to ensure our campaign is delivering on our goals.

Smartphone App Brings Medical Records to Physician’s Mobile Device Dignity Health Partners with Adeptus Health To Bring New Hospital to Phoenix Dignity Health and Adeptus Health have announced a joint venture to operate a new hospital in an underserved area of suburban Phoenix and to plan additional emergency medical care facilities in the area. The 39,000-square-foot hospital in Laveen, Ariz., will have 16 inpatient rooms, two state-of-the-art operating rooms for inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures, an emergency department, a high-complexity laboratory and a full radiology suite. Patients will have full access to the Dignity Health area facilities and physicians, and the hospital will provide 24/7 access to emergency medical care. Adeptus Health, Inc. owns and operates First Choice Emergency Room, the nation's largest network of freestanding emergency rooms, with facilities in Texas and Colorado. The new hospital is one of several initiatives planned with Adeptus Health that allow both organizations to expand access to care in a lowercost setting. The joint venture plans to use the freestanding emergency department model to offer emergency care "closer to home" and give patients quicker access to all of the services provided by Dignity Health in Arizona. "The combination of Dignity Health's well-established quality of care and Adeptus Health's unique delivery model will be an excellent addition to the communities we serve," said Linda Hunt, Senior Vice President of Operations for the Arizona Service Area.
These days, when all hospital systems and providers are working to implement an electronic medical record system, the bigger problem may lie in getting the various EMRs to talk to each other. That’s where AirStrip ONE®, in partnership with Dignity Health, comes in. Using the AirStrip ONE app, a physician can have patient records from many sources and even real-time information from patient monitors delivered securely to his or her mobile device. “The challenge is that all these different EMRs store data a little bit differently,” said Davin Lundquist, MD, Dignity Health Chief Medical Information Officer. “But AirStrip ONE is a conduit to the data and can stream it to physicians’ mobile devices.” Dr. Lundquist said Dignity Health is approaching the problem of securely sharing patient data from other angles as well, such as big data analysis through which large amounts of patient data could be collected and analyzed. Another approach is Mobile MD which would enable Dignity Health to collect patient data from its hospitals and make it available to community physicians. And Dignity Health also has announced plans to participate in Cal Index, an effort by Blue Cross and Blue Shield to share patient data with payers and hospital systems throughout California. Dignity Health already has tested AirStrip ONE in Phoenix. The next step is a test in the Central Coast Service Area. “Our plan is to connect the EMRs in all the Central Coast hospitals. We will start with Cerner, which is being rolled out throughout Dignity Health, and then pick three or four community EMRs to seamlessly display data on any given patient.”
A third implementation will soon begin in five hospitals in the Greater Sacramento Service Area to enhance the Tele-ICU program that is in place there. A specialist would be able to have information on a patient in the ICU streamed to his or her iPad and could conference with the critical care doctor about that patient’s care. “Currently, we’re supporting the Tele-ICU at Mark Twain Medical Center, Woodland Healthcare, Mercy General Hospital, Mercy Hospital Folsom and Mercy San Juan Medical Center,” said Jim Roxburgh, RN, MPA, Director, Dignity Health Telemedicine Network. “We use the InTouch Health telemedicine platform to connect our tele-specialists to these hospitals and other acute and sub-acute locations across the state. The AirStrip technology will work as an adjunct to the InTouch Health telemedicine technology to give the telespecialists a real-time view of the bedside vital signs, waveforms and lab values.” “This is historic because nobody has done it in this fashion before,” said Roxburgh. He expects AirStrip ONE to be rolled out in the five hospitals in 2015. Dr. Lundquist said all of these initiatives are exciting. “We’ve been talking about how we can collect all this data, bring it together and make it mobile. But this is just one piece of the puzzle. We will continue the Health Information Exchange and Enterprise Data Warehouse strategies too. It will take us about five years to get all of these pieces in place across the enterprise.” And there’s also another benefit, he said: “We’ve invested in AirStrip ONE. Our hope is that if we are able to make this work, not only will it pay off as a solution, but the investment will pay off too.”
