The Discretionary Learner Support Fund helps students from low income families with expenses incurred when studying – visit sparsholt.ac.uk/information/money-matters for more information. The Support to Study Fund also provides funding to students whose household income is below £20,000.

HELP WITH CHILDCARE Students aged under 20 at the start of their course who care for their own child(ren) can claim for childcare and travel costs to and from their childcare provider. They can claim up to £160 per child per week and applications are made through www.gov.uk/care-to-learn/overview or 0800 121 8989. Please note the childcare provider must be Ofsted registered.

If you are 19 or older and fulfil government conditions you could be entitled to a funded course and study for free!

Free if aged 19-23 & first full Level 2 course or aged 19+ and unemployed

B The Advanced Learner Loan is available to students aged 19 and over to fund courses from Level 3 to 6 like Access to Higher Education courses and Diplomas. The loan will cover your fees so you won’t have to pay anything upfront. You also won’t start paying it back until after the course is completed and you are earning £21,000+ a year. Plus, if you then go on to complete a full degree your loan for the Access course will be written off.

CERTIFICATES Many of our part-time courses lead to qualifications recognised by industry bodies such as City & Guilds. Employers may need you to have these certificates to recognise your competence to do the job.

LEVEL 2 Equivalent to GCSE level study. These courses provide skills to do the job. Completing an Apprenticeship programme will earn you a Level 2 qualification.

LEVEL 3 Equivalent to A Level study. This level is suited to supervisory grades of employment and provides entry to university. An Advanced Apprenticeship will include a Level 3 qualification.

LEVEL 4 Level 4 qualifications are the first level of a degree and are also the level for many professionally accredited programmes. These indicate advanced level skill and knowledge. Many of these programmes are eligible for Advanced Learner Loans, so you don’t have to pay anything upfront.

QUALIFICATIONS EXPLAINED

DEGREE LEVELS LEVEL 5 – FdSc (FOUNDATION DEGREE) This is a Level 5 stand-alone qualification delivered in two years fulltime or three years part-time. The FdSc can be topped-up to a full BSc (Hons) degree with an additional year of study. All courses include work experience. These programmes are eligible for Advanced Learner Loans, so you don’t have to pay anything upfront.

LEVEL 6 – BSc (Hons) DEGREE This is a Level 6 qualification designed to develop higher-level skills to be successful in a professional career such as management, research and academia.

LEVEL 6 – BSc (Hons) DEGREE (ONE YEAR TOP-UP) These are one-year programmes which allow you to top–up your FdSc or HND to a full degree. Most can be studied full-time, with some also offered as a part-time or distance learning option.

LEVEL 7 – MASTER’S DEGREE These are postgraduate Level 7 qualifications which follow on from a full degree. Programmes last one year full-time or two years part-time and include taught and research components (thesis).
