You’ll find us in Yorkshire right at the heart of the country, perfectly placed for visitors from every corner of Britain with rapid, easy access via motorway, rail and air. And of course when every penny counts, you can count on Sheffield to make your budget stretch a long, long way. (Great value for money is not just a cliché in these parts, it’s a passion.)
A city unlike any other You’ll also find this city bursting with innovation, with an exciting creative industries sector and a happy knack for producing stars such as Pulp, the Arctic Monkeys and Jessica Ennis. What more would you expect from such a proudly independent and fresh-thinking metropolis?
You’ll certainly feel the buzz every minute of every day, and the explosion of restaurants, bistros, cafés and bars has brought a continental nightlife to this great city. And yet for all its electric energy, Sheffield boasts tranquil city centre chill-out zones for your delegates, including prize-winning open spaces such as the iconic Winter Garden and the Peace Gardens.
Taking care of your delegates Talking of your delegates...they’ll be in for a treat. Sheffield City Hall – host to Liberal Democrats Spring Conference 2011 – is the city’s landmark convention centre and is a truly majestic setting unlike any other. Ponds Forge is the largest banqueting room in the city and a stupendous space to dine. And Sheffield Town Hall is another grand address for smaller dinners and receptions (after all, Queen Victoria did open it).

sporting chances There’s nothing quite like holding your event at the EISS (English Institute of Sport Sheffield) for enhancing your competitive edge. This world-class sports and training venue is home to some of the UK’s elite sports stars including Sheffield’s own Jessica Ennis. And it’s sure to inspire your delegates and motivate them as never before. Ice Sheffield is a spectacular complex incorporating two superb ice rinks which transform to offer vast space for events and exhibitions. The first class resources make any event special, whilst a full banquet and catering service offers memorable dinners out of the city.
INSPIRE YOUR DELEGATES AND Add THE PERFECT FINISH TO YOUR EVENT And Don Valley Stadium’s winning atmosphere and vibrant surroundings make it the perfect choice for exciting events on any scale. The imposing architecture will inspire your delegates and add the perfect finish to your event. So whether it’s an indoor conference for up to 1,000 or an outdoor stadium event for up to 50,000, this is a winner. If you still want more, Sheffield’s 15,000 seater Motorpoint Arena caters for the lavish and large and has hosted corporate events from the IIFA (Bollywood Oscars) to BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2009.
Your guests will also warm to the lively pulse of this city. And it’s all happening here The Crucible – one of the UK’s most explosive regional theatres – is back in lights after a two-year £15m refurbishment. More welcoming and comfortable than ever, every show is a thrill-packed, edge-of-the-seat experience. Corporate spaces have a new edge – check out the Adelphi Suite for intimate dinners or
receptions and stunning city views – it’s the current place to be! Another great city centre excursion is the Showroom, one of the largest independent cinemas in Europe – and the place to be for anyone with a passion for film. The Showroom’s cinema auditoria offer superb venues for conferences of up to 280 delegates and the vibrant café bar is a great place to catch up (especially with free Wi-Fi).
Combined with the adjacent Workstation, it hosts the world-famous Sheffield Documentary Festival which welcomes more than 1,000 delegates from the broadcast media each year. It’s a logistical and technical challenge only the best organised and most highly equipped venues can meet. For smaller gatherings try training hotspot The Circle or for an ‘uber-chic’ event at the boho side of town, the Chimney House (with its resident Elephant) must be seen to be believed.

The right venue can turn a great conference into an unforgettable occasion. So it’s good to know that Sheffield boasts a wealth of outstanding locations outside the city and beyond.
The edge of our city is skirted by the M1 and touches the neighbouring centres of Rotherham and Barnsley as well as open countryside. Indeed, a staggering one third of Sheffield lies within the glorious Peak District National Park. And our satellite centres bring countless attractions in their own right. Green and leafy Rotherham is an entrepreneurial hotspot, buzzing with commercial projects such as the Advanced Manufacturing Park complete with an impressive conference venue. Barnsley is awash with exciting new projects too. And Doncaster is a hugely popular conference destination, with its impressive venues such as the new Racecourse facilities and the ever popular Doncaster Dome. The Peak District and Sheffield go hand in hand. Often referred to as the ‘City of the Peaks’, Sheffield is only 5 miles from the stunning countryside of this National Park. The city countryside combination is a real winner. For example, let your delegates savour the enormous regal spaces of Chatsworth House for a conference dinner, champagne reception or even an afternoon of country pursuits. The area is a partner programmer’s dream! Bakewell, famous for the pudding, is a delightful half day of shopping and sightseeing. The famous Caverns at

Castleton are another popular draw and a house or garden tour at Chatsworth (teamed with the Duchess’s Cream Tea and a spot of shopping) can fill a few hours or a full weekend. The result is a whole spectrum of possible experiences unmatched by any other destination. With every conceivable kind and style of venue, you can be sure Sheffield has the ideal choice for you.
Venues out of this world Magna Science Adventure Centre delivers some of the most astonishing event facilities in the UK. Set in the former Templeborough steelworks in Rotherham yet minutes from Sheffield, a conference here will make a lasting impression, with unforgettable event spaces housed within a colossal structure catering for up to 3,000 delegates. Atmospheric lights and pyrotechnics make this awesome venue a delight for those event organisers with a creative spark!
Country house splendour The magnificent setting of Chatsworth will wow even the most seasoned delegate. Exquisite out of town dining in the Stables quarter combined with the inspiring surroundings, champagne receptions and beautifully equipped
meeting rooms create an outstanding corporate event (keep your eyes peeled for the Duke and Duchess who live on site).
a staggering one third of Sheffield lies within the glorious Peak District National Park For yet more historic charm, head just off the M1 to the splendidly chic Tankersley Manor country house hotel. Whether it’s characterful meetings in the manor house or large-scale, cutting-edge occasions in the conference centre, a stimulating ambience and fine food guarantee a memorable event.
Where success is academic As one of the UK’s leading red brick universities and an acclaimed seat of learning, the University of Sheffield is an ideal setting for a conference of any size. This academic getaway is based in a series of brand new modern conference and accommodation villages offering affordable ensuite accommodation, whilst the conference facilities are truly leading edge. The Octagon centre is an impressive Octagonal convention space at the heart of the University. Looking for something with more character? Halifax – a Victorian mansion forming part of the university – is just the perfect tranquil getaway.

LEISURE IS PLEASURE
Every delegate looks forward to a little R&R after an inspirational work session. Here in Sheffield, you’ll find a world of enthralling activities from the madcap to the cultural, many of which are totally unique to this great city.
Adrenalin adventures Need to burn off some excess energy? The Peak District National Park is minutes away where you can try your hand at everything from mountain and quad biking to shooting. Or let your delegates face the ultimate personal challenge – Magna’s ‘awesome foursome’ – by tackling the world’s only indoor bungee jump, parachute drop, abseil and zip wire.
Team building Ever heard of Duck herding? It’s amazingly tricky, great fun and a team building exercise par excellence! Ask Chatsworth or Kenwood Hall to organise your event. And what about this for a cool team building experience: Ice Sheffield offers three great packages – learning to ice skate, curling and mini ice hockey games. Each is specially designed to be fun for all. Prefer the tiles to the ice? Polish your dance steps in Sheffield City Hall’s ballroom with a fun-filled ‘Strictly Salsa’ group session with expert tuition from the pro’s.
Down time Wind down with a luxury spa session. Try the wonderful spa at Tankersley Manor or visit the Mercure St Paul’s Hotel & Spa, complete with its own 18m pool. Or take your guests for a cookery demonstration at the award-winning (and Gordon Ramsay finalist) gastro pub 10

discover plenty of delicious locally sourced food and a convivial atmosphere. Or why not gather them together and set off on a guided tour of one of our prizewinning breweries? Choose from Kelham Island Brewery, Sheffield Brewery or Thornbridge – cheers!
From the Michelin-starred Old Vicarage restaurant and gastro hotspot The Milestone Restaurant; to relaxed restaurant-bars like Silversmiths, Olive Bar and Crucible Corner, you’ll discover plenty of delicious locally sourced food and convivial atmosphere. For something quirky try the Pop-up Dining Hall at Chimney House or The Stage at Sheffield City Hall’s Oval Hall. And if you love Mediterranean cuisine, make a beeline for Ego.
Get sporty Splash out and treat your delegates to a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be taught the art of diving by a GB high diver in the pool at Ponds Forge. Or if you’re potty about snooker, organise a corporate tournament with a top UK player at Sheffield’s World Snooker Academy. And here’s one for the night owls: Night Golf. Glow-in-the-dark golf balls and floodlit fairways make for a unique spectacle, where novices are paired up with regular players for a fun, all inclusive competition.
Eating Out (of this world) Wining and dining is one of the great treats of every corporate event, and Sheffield boasts a superb selection of top class eateries to cater for every taste and budget.
retail therapy Shopping is another must-do for many delegates. And they’ll be in seventh heaven in Meadowhall – one of Europe’s largest shopping centres. In fact, it’s just undergone a major revamp, with designer boutiques and flagship stores enjoying a glittering refurbishment. You’ll find every type of shop under the sun, including all your favourite high street names and oodles of independent stores to savour. welcometosheffield.co.uk/conference

A winning location
Staying over – sorted!
And the location is superb too. The nearby M1, M18, M62 and A1 provide fast, easy road access without the congestion of major cities (why else do the likes of Amazon and Ikea have their main distribution centres here). The East Coast Mainline whisks you by rail from London in around 90 minutes. And the new Sheffield-Doncaster airport is perfect for those flying visits. Doncaster is just 20 minutes from Sheffield and close to Leeds.
Doncaster offers first class business accommodation for every budget, from mainstream names like Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express, to luxury hideaways like the Crown Hotel Bawtry, The Earl of Doncaster Hotel and the Best Western Premier Mount Pleasant Hotel and Spa. And many are just a short stroll from the town’s main venues or the uber chic area of Bawtry.
Destination: Dome
Doncaster also boasts some outstanding architecture and buildings to make your event truly special. From the splendid 18th century Cusworth Hall with its vast parkland to the tranquil Hodsock Priory with its famous snowdrops, this town has everything you need to make your corporate occasion a success.
Another ever popular venue is the Dome Complex. Its 1,800 delegate capacity, fine exhibition space and well equipped seminar rooms make it an ever popular choice for large banquets, smaller exhibitions and trade shows as well as intimate live music and sporting events.

Or, if you fancy getting active, try your hand at Dragon Boat Racing on the Lakeside, rock climbing or skating at the Dome, or Polo at the Vale of York Club. It’s all great for team building. But for something completely left field, try a Meercat-inspired team-building day with the Crown Hotel and the Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
Doncaster’s traditional markets are a must. Packed with colourful stalls and thronging with crowds, you can enjoy the very finest local foods and discover some real bargains. For high street shopping out of town, head off to Lakeside Shopping Village where you’ll find big name stores, lots of independents and some great buys to be had. Or, a little further afield, why not organise an excursion to some of the quaint market towns that dot the region such as Bawtry. There’s nothing like it for escaping the high adrenaline atmosphere of your event.

For starters there’s a day (or half day) at the races. Treat your guests to a private Hospitality Box or a meal at one of the fine restaurants with jaw-dropping views across the racecourse. Of course everyone loves a spot of shopping. Whether it’s picking up a special memento or stocking up on Yorkshire delicacies they just can’t find at home, your delegates will adore the retail scene here.
