I have children and usually their preference is for the multicoloured ‘more is more’ look, which now my control freakish habits have been well and truly broken I fully embrace. Christmas is a time for celebration, joy and sparkle is it not? So what if my tree looks more like a pantomime dame every year? If you’re serious about selling however, there’s no harm in a subtle Scandinavian grown-up Christmas to help your viewers see the true potential of your house. Don’t get out all the decorations you’ve hoarded for the past 20 years. Why not put the decs out late this year and go for a minimal look just this once with items that tie in with the room’s dĂŠcor and don’t make anywhere look cluttered. The best thing you can do is make the place look as inviting as possible. Christmas is an occasion for friends and family to visit. Show prospective buyers how great your home looks at this time of year so that they can imagine themselves entertaining in it or waking up on Christmas morning. If you have an empty fireplace fill it with logs. Lay piles of on-trend tartan or wool blankets on the end of the sofa. Rustic bowls of clementines or walnuts can replace flowers and be set out casually on the side in the kitchen or on the dining room table. If you are lucky enough to have space for a dresser or a mantelpiece over a fireplace then these are the
