AS we head into winter, the cattle are in and everybody starts to look forward to Christmas. This is a time for family, friends and celebrations, but there are still many matters arising that farmers need to be aware of. Basic Payment Scheme: Most of the details are now finalised on the upcoming Basic Payment Scheme with the new CAP online system starting to get rolled out. This will be done gradually and all farmers will be sent a registration pack. You will then need to verify your identity on â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;Gov.uk verifyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; before logging on to the CAP Information Service online. Should you have any problems or questions with this please do not hesitate to get in touch. Planning: The government is currently putting forward proposals for a range of improvements to the planning system and giving communities more power in planning and local development. They aim to reduce planning regulation and we could see new permitted development rights introduced for the change of use of a further range of buildings, including light industrial units, warehouses and storage units, to residential
use. The government seems to be very keen to support growth within rural areas, so watch this space! NVZ Derogations: On other matters, a reminder to grassland farmers that the application window to apply for an NVZ derogation in 2015 is now open and closes on December 31, 2014. Derogations are available where farmers will exceed the NVZ livestock manure â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;loading limitâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; of 170kg N/ ha and they can apply to increase the limit up to a maximum of 250kg N/ha. It is important for any farmers affected to apply as soon as possible, as the deadline cannot be extended. The above are just a few topical matters within the farming industry and it will be interesting to see everything move forward into the next year. â&#x2014;?
