CENTRAL COFFEE COMPANY has been serving the Charlotte community with coffee, house-made pastries, and piping hot quiche since May 2009. Their Plaza Midwood location opened first with just three employees: Jimmy Kleto, and his parents, Nick and Olga Kleto. The store became one of the first neighborhood gathering spots on the cusp of Plaza Midwood and Elizabeth. Since then, the area has accumulated more amazing businesses and Central Coffee Company has grown beyond its original three employees, though still a family business at heart. In October of 2016, Jimmy and Louisa Kleto expanded with a second shop in Charlotte’s South End bringing delicious beverages to the area just ahead of the commercial and residential boom. From buttery Greek cookies, cream cheese pound cake, and biscotti to vegan options like zucchini bread, chocolate espresso cake, and baklava, Central Coffee Company strives to incorporate menu items for all different tastes in their offerings. Seasonal selections include pumpkin pie lattes made with real pumpkin as well as chocolate bourbon pecan pie, all made in house. Catering options are available at either location, as well as, that last-minute box of coffee for your meeting. Central Coffee Company gets its coffee from the roasters at Joe Van Gogh, located in Hillsborough, NC and has continued to have a relationship that grows with different flavor profiles and new projects like the bourbon barrelaged cold brew that is released twice a year, Spring and Summer. They work hard expanding their knowledge of the industry to offer patrons new and exciting things to eat and drink. Central Coffee Company is small, but with a big mission -- to bring wonderful coffee, great customer service, and a comfortable space to meet neighbors. Undercurrent’s primary roasting relationship is with the award-winning team behind Onyx Coffee Lab, the 2017 United States Roasting Champions and the United States Brewing Champions. Undercurrent’s cafe lineup also includes, but is not limited to: a rotating selection of coffees from a variety of nationallycelebrated coffee roasters like Verve Coffee Roasters, Equator Coffee and Tea, and Ritual Coffee Roasters; and cold brew on tap from the Charlottelocal roaster Pure Intentions Coffee. Open for breakfast and lunch, Undercurrent Coffee’s food program mirrors its beverage program in integrity by sourcing quality and seasonal ingredients from local farms and purveyors. The team is proud to be working with some of the best farms and companies in the region including Homeland Creamery, Anson Mills, Goat Lady Dairy, North Corner Haven, and a host of other local farms sourced through FreshList. With a veggie-forward, madefrom-scratch menu, there is a hearty selection including pastries, breakfast bowls, toasts, and salads. In addition to the cafe, Undercurrent Coffee also offers an education program at the UC Training Lab, a 200-square foot classroom in the back of the building dedicated to all things coffee. Decked out with state of the art coffee equipment and boasting the highly-soughtafter Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) campus accreditation, the UC Training Lab offers a variety of public coffee education classes, as well as professionally-focused SCA Barista and Brewing certification courses.

They craft a variety of specialty drinks that change with the seasons, such as housemade apple cider and housemade pumpkin maple butter lattes. Not your ordinary coffee house, Olive’s Mud Puddle is located in an art gallery with a working art studio. Award-winning artist and owner, Debbie Whitsett’s vision for Olive’s was to create a relaxed place where you could find yourself surrounded by creativity. “We all need some time to escape and reap the benefits of getting lost in the creative process. We opened as just that, a place to create and a place for local artists to show their talents. An important aspect of our business is helping artists get recognition and to connect with the community. As a community outreach, we supply local high school students and teachers an opportunity to exhibit in our gallery, as well as supporting our local artists and local Art Guilds by exhibiting their work whenever we can,” explained Debbie. With the art community growth, Olive’s is growing their adult pottery classes too with more pottery wheels. Fort Mill 229 Main Street Fort Mill, SC 29715 OLIVESMUDPUDDLE.COM

THE MANCHESTER, an American Gastropub with English flare in Charlotte’s historic South End, manages to capture the essence of an English public house while infusing some southern charm. Brought together by a team of restaurateurs with 25 years of experience, the Manchester concept was inspired by a great grandfather from Wales and a family infinity for Manchester soccer clubs. General Manager, Michael Vergili is no stranger to the Charlotte restaurant scene. He’s a Culinary Institute of America graduate, a partner in the Futo Buta restaurant and worked as the Executive Chef for Carmel Country Club for more than 10 years. “We offer three venues in one,” says Vergili. “Our English style pub with an outdoor beer garden is a cozy, candlelit area with an inviting two-sided fireplace. The dining room easily accommodates large parties, perfect for family meals or social gatherings,” Vergili continues. “And if you’re searching for a more intimate and exclusive setting, we offer Room 1812, a prohibition-era speakeasy nestled beneath the Manchester.” Room 1812 is a top-tier cocktail bar, offering an array of house specialty cocktails and classic spirits. Whether you’re in the mood for a Gimlet, a Vieux Carre or a local craft beer, you can expect quality drinks and service in Room 1812, but you’ll need a password to get in. Follow @room_1812 on Instagram or call the hostess for the password of the day. The Manchester offers lunch and dinner every day of the week, and an a la carte brunch on Saturday and Sunday. HABERDISH is a mill town southern kitchen and craft cocktail bar offering Carolina inspired cuisine like crispy fried chicken, southern vegetables, and other locally inspired side plates. You’ll find southern hospitality from the bartenders who will gladly shake, stir, or pour you seasonally crafted apothecary cocktails from a 1950’s soda fountain that pairs perfectly with the food and southern climate at Haberdish. The soapstone bar top came from a quarry in Virginia and the selvage denim on the interior seating was produced in Cone Mills, NC. The tabletops were handcrafted right here in Charlotte, and the wood came from the rafters of their building. The bar taps are reused spindles from a former mill, and the copper lights were hand-spun and designed and assembled right here in Charlotte.

BLACKHAWK HARDWARE has got you covered whether you’re remodeling, gardening, cooking, looking for a unique gift, or simply just craving some popcorn. Blackhawk has been a family-owned hardware store in Charlotte, NC since 1977. Known for its wide array of lawn and garden supplies, hardware, paint, electric and plumbing products, Blackhawk Hardware is more than just a hardware store; it is a lifestyle store. From cooking dinner for one to entertaining a large crowd, you can find everything you need in the grilling, kitchen and housewares departments. As the largest Big Green Egg and Weber dealer in the Carolinas, Blackhawk Hardware is the store to visit for all your grilling needs. BBQ fans can rejoice in knowing that the Blackhawk grilling team knows their way around using a grill or smoker and can answer all your hot questions. Along with traditional cooking and grilling utensils, Blackhawk Hardware also offers niche items you never knew you needed until you tried them, such as salt blocks for searing steaks, cedar planks for grilling fish, or flavored smoking chips to add that extra bit of flavor. You can also find various sauces and rubs to spice up any dish. One of the most popular sauces Blackhawk Hardware sells, Ogre Sauce, is made by a local Charlotte company. Available in original and hot flavors, Ogre Sauce is an all-purpose barbeque sauce created by Mike “Ogre” Weeks using his grandmother’s recipe with his own twist. Once Weeks perfected and bottled his sauce, he sold it to a few retail stores, Blackhawk Hardware being one of them. In addition to grilling, Blackhawk Hardware also has everything a wellstocked kitchen needs from small appliances to cooking and baking
tools to party supplies and serveware. You’ll also find essential accessories and helpful gadgets like cookie cutters, strawberry hullers, and garlic presses. The team is always adding unique new food and beverage items like unbreakable glasses infused with titanium, reusable food wrap made from beeswax, and wine wands to remove nitrates and histamines. Blackhawk even offers non-alcoholic “beer” for your dog and “wine” for your cat. Looking for a take-home treat? Blackhawk carries several specialty brands and hard-to-find items with cult-like followings such as Chapel Hill Toffee, Dots Pretzels, and a wide selection of assorted root beers, fruit sodas, and ginger ales, including owner Andy’s favorite: Route 66. A locally made beverage at Blackhawk Hardware is Dunx Coffee, an organic, craft coffee brand that started as a stand at the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market. In addition to bags of freshly roasted coffee beans, Dunx serves hot drip coffee from a bar window located inside the store. Grab a cup before exploring the aisles looking for that next must-have item. The best thing about Blackhawk Hardware is that you’ll never know what you’ll find there – something you’ve never seen before right next to something you came in searching for – but you can always count on being greeted with warm smiles from the employees when you walk through the doors.
