Welcome to the 1st Annual Grant Thornton LLP Thompson Okanagan Business Excellence Awards June 14, 2018 at the Coast Capri Hotel in Kelowna With summer just a week away, it’s a great time to celebrate an evening honouring the “all stars” of business in the Thompson Okanagan region over the last year! The businesses represented in this program and that have packed this ballroom represent the best of the best in 17 categories. Business owners, managers and leaders are gathered tonight for an evening of camaraderie and positive reflection about their accomplishments and networking. This is what the First Annual Grant Thornton LLP Thompson Okanagan Business Excellence Awards event is all about. There are always good stories to tell in every environment and economy, and these Awards were created for exactly this purpose: To celebrate the successes of companies in our economy in a wide variety of sectors. The pages of this Official Souvenir Book are filled with profiles, photos and contact Information for some of the most successful businesses in the Thompson Okanagan over the 2017 calendar year. There are some amazing stories to be told, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to highlight these as sterling examples of what can be, and is being done, in our region. The Nest & Nectar Randy Foster’s and business partner Fergy’s life long dream was to move to Penticton and open a restaurant. When they walked through the doors of the space for the first time in the historical Cannery Trade Centre, it was love at first site and everything they had ever dreamed of. In fact, this last year has been has thing short of unbelievable for them. Their doors opened in October of 2016 with their vision to open a restaurant that was more about community involvement than it was about food and beverage. In the past year the space has been home to not for profit organizations looking for room for a meeting at no cost, a Girl Guides troop looking for a commercial kitchen to make and decorate cookies for a soup kitchen, art displayed from local artists where they keep 100% of the profit, local musicians, local theatre, paint night, kids cooking classes, cocktail making classes, fundraisers, feeding the less fortunate, etc. In just a short year and a half their business has donated over $12,000 for the community through our fundraising efforts. The business has had its success as well. In late 2017 they were nominated and awarded Penticton Chamber of Commerce “New Business Excellence”, as well as being honoured to also be awarded third best buffet and third best breakfast through Okanagan Life Magazine just a short 6 months after they opened their doors which was a wonderful accomplishment for them.
