THE SUFFERS

The Resilient Gulf Coast Soul Band THURSDAY

· SEPTEMBER 21, 2017 · 8pm

H

ouston’s own The Suffers have a message to send: ”the folks of the Gulf Coast are resilient” and that they “have soul”! They share their “soulful resolve” with you after navigating the effects of Hurricane Harvey with one of their first performances since the storm devastated their hometown. Along with showing your support to the band, McGregor Hall is donating 50 percent of ticket sales from the show to the American Red Cross’ hurricane relief efforts. It will be an emotional night for the band as their sincerity and heart are showcased in all their music. That authentic passion has helped them earn 20 Houston Press Music Awards and taken them to stages far and wide, including appearances on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah and Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Currently, they’re touring in support of their 2016 self-titled debut album. The eight-member ensemble packs each position of the rhythm and horn section with a level of talent and taste that provides the perfect foundation for singer Kam Franklin’s massive voice. This is not just Soul music, they say. It’s Gulf Coast Soul. With influences of Classic Rock ‘n Roll, Country, Latin and Southern Hip Hop, their style brings a fresh approach to what they have coined Gulf Coast Soul. LORRIE MORGAN

Country Music’s ‘Most Emove Vocalist’ SUNDAY

It’s

· OCTOBER 8, 2017 · 8pm

gonna be a night like no other when the McGregor Hall stage lights up for one of the most emotive Country vocalists of modern times. Lorrie Morgan, the first woman in her genre to begin her career with three consecutive Platinum albums, is coming to our Kerr Lake region fresh off of launching her first new solo album in five years. Letting Go...Slow is a highly acclaimed album with a “rainbow of emotions, from darkest heartache to bright, shiny humor,” says Morgan, who comments about the collection’s varied moods. “Where I am in my life right now, I’m not afraid to express what I feel, or what I don’t feel. I’ve been a daughter, a bride, a mother, a divorcee, a widow, a single mother, a breadwinner and, ultimately, a survivor. In many ways, I am a living, breathing Country song, and I know what I sing.“ Get ready for Morgan to “kick up her stiletto heels” with her hits Except for Monday and Go Away. On her epic song Something in Red, she’ll share her experiences as a struggling woman. Enjoy Country classics such as her soprano lilt version of Patsy Cline’s Strange, while the sublimely Country Lonely Whiskey may even leave you in tears.

JASON CRABB

Gospel’s Grammy Winning Golden Boy SUNDAY

· NOVEMBER 12, 2017 · 7pm

It

is sure to be a night of encouragement, hope and faith as Grammy and Dove award winner Jason Crabb of Kentucky brings us his compelling voice that has easily moved among musical styles. But on his latest Gospel album, Whatever The Road, he promises to give you more of himself than ever before. “You have to reach in deeper places to write music, and with song writing you have to stay there for a little bit,” said Crabb, who co-wrote seven of the album’s 10 songs. “I’ve never wanted to be pigeon-holed. I just wanted to make music. I finally found that if you’re part of the creative process of the song, then it becomes you.” There’s a strong current of hope running throughout the album, particularly with the song, He Won’t Leave You There. In the chorus, Crabb sings, “When the darkness overwhelms you and the fear just won’t subside, when your questions outweigh answers on those long and lonely nights, when you’ve got to keep on moving, He is with you in the valley of despair, and He won’t leave you there.” CALL: (252) 598-0662 CLICK: McGregorHall.org DROP IN: Mon.-Fri. 1:30-5:30pm 20
