CENTER FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING SERVICE LEARNING

The Marquette University Service Learning Program helps students learn in practice what they study in the classroom through meaningful service placements in the community. As part of their academic courses, over 60 percent of Marquette students participate in service learning during their Marquette careers. Students are placed in service opportunities throughout Milwaukee, which provide a more impactful academic learning experience, and help develop leadership skills, a sense of civic responsibility and a deeper understanding of social justice issues in our community.

Every semester, 1,000+ service learners work in a variety of capacities with local organizations.

REFLECTION SESSIONS

Peer-led re ection sessions allow students to dialogue about social justice issues and connect their course and academic work.

The Service Learning Program seeks to bring campus and community together in bidirectional partnership to share resources, impact student learning and meet real community needs through some of the following activities:

Working with the elderly Assisting at health clinics, hospitals, and disability services providers Providing educational presentations Work with local schools and after-school programs Research projects Tutoring, ESL support, GED support, translating
