HEaD CoacH Matt GroBE Matt Grobe, 41, returns to Huntington after six years as the Head Golf Professional at DragonRidge Country Club in Henderson, Nev. In that capacity, Grobe served in various Board roles for the Southern Nevada Chapter of the Southwest Section of the PGA of America since 2001, including President, from 2004-07. In 2004, he was named the Southern Nevada Chapter Golf Professional of the Year and in 2007, he captured the Bill Strausbaugh Award. He also served as the club's Tournament Director in 2004 before leaving for year to serve as the Director of Sales at Lake Las Vegas Resort. From 1998-2004, Grobe served as the Head Golf Professional at Rhodes Ranch Golf Club in Las Vegas after a three-year stint as the Assistant Golf Professional at Primm Valley Golf Club in Primm, Nevada. "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to come back to my alma mater and take over the program that Joe has built over 40 years," said Grobe. "I am looking forward to take what he has established in Huntington and seeing it continue to grow." With the Herd, Grobe replaces his former MU coach,Joe Feaganes, who retired after 40 years with the program. "I am excited that Matt Grobe, a former Marshall golfer, has been named Marshall's golf coach," Feaganes said. "There were a number of fine candidates for the position, and I look forward to working with Matt during this transition period. He will do a great job." Grobe played for the Herd for three years (1993-95, a three-time letterman) after attending the Air Force Academy from 1989-92. Upon his 1995 Marshall graduation with a degree in Business Administration, he began his golf career at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club in Hurricane, before relocating to the Las Vegas area. "I've known Matt and his family for a long time," Hamrick said. "He is not only a high-quality person, but an up-and-coming professional in this business." Grobe and his wife, Melanie, have a daughter, Mackenzie, and a son Cameron. Matt is also a son of Huntington native and former Marshall assistant football coach (1979-83) Jim Grobe, who has been Wake Forest's head coach since 2001.
VoLuNtEEr assistaNt Pat cartEr Pat Carter is in his 12th year as a volunteer assistant coach with the Marshall golf program. Carter, a 1991 Marshall graduate, was a member of the Thundering Herd golf team from 1986 to 1990. The West Virginia native captained the Herd as a junior and senior, earning All-Southern Conference honors in 1990. Carter, one of the top amateur golfers in the nation, is a 12-time West Virginia Amateur Champion and has also qualified for the U.S. Amateur 12 times. Carter was a quarter finalist in both the U.S. Amateur and the U.S. Mid-Amateur in 2003 and was selected as the 2001 West Virginia Amateur Athlete of the Year. He has also been honored as the W.Va. Golf Association Player of the Year 13 times. Carter was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005. Carter currently resides in Huntington with his wife Kelli and their two children, Hogan and Heidi.

HOME COURSES
Guyan Golf & Country Club The Marshall golf team is fortunate to have playing and practice privileges at many fine courses in the Huntington area. Without the support and cooperation of all these golf facilities, it would be difficult for the Herd to field a golf team. Guyan Golf and Country Club has been Marshall’s home course for more than 50 years. It has served as the site of numerous tournaments throughout the years, including the Marshall Invitational. “It helps our program tremendously to have the use of outstanding facilities such as these,” says Herd coach Matt Grobe. “Each course offers a different challenge and helps prepare us for the many situations we face in tournament competition.”
