SMITH & NEWTON projects 1QBIC 2Hampstead 3Chancery 4Cromwell 5Visuals
At Smith & Newton I have been focusing on learning how the process of architecture comes together from Riba stages 0-5. I now have a much better understanding of how structure, design, and building regulations come together to form a final product. Its a small firm so I got involved in about 50 projects in the last year and a half however the ones I worked on more consistently were various small home extensions (0-5), a few residential schemes (stage 0-2),an office lobby renovation (0-5) and a hotel renovation(0-5). The expertise I brought to the studio was producing fast high quality visuals and creative design solutions.
1QBIC QBIC is a trendy milleanial budget friendly hotel born in Amsterdam. It’s recently moved to the UK market and has a hotel in Whitechapel. They wanted to redevelop their restaurant/lobby/bathrooms/facade areas. We worked in conjunction with a interior designer to bring new life to the interiors while keeping the quirky features that it is known for. The idea for the facade was keeping it fun, interesting and instagrammable. Budget: 500k Stage: Planning Application

2HAMPSTEAD House Extension and pool house addition in Hamsptead Heath. The couple was hoping to have more space for their family so we proposed a kitchen extension with a basement which had access to a courtyard that would then connect to the green space above. In the back they had a tennis court area which they wanted to transform into a pool house. We designed a two part building separated into leisure and living that come together at a single point, framing the central garden. Budget: 1.5 million Stage: Planning Application Accepted

3CHANCERY Interior Lobby Renovation in South London with the addition of a new disabled toilet, storage room, entrance, and custom front desk. The concept was to clad the room in pale timber slats and then bring the vinyl flooring up a certain datum, giving the effect of the floor extending along the edge of the room. The tones are wood, grey, white which allows the furniture to bring in some colorful fabrics.
Stage: Value Engineering and June

In my time at UDS I developed
knowledge and sensitivity to materials and overall interior development, that only an intenationally active interior studio could provide. I have assisted from pitching, to design detailing, as well as submitting a project for planning application and following through construction. I have also developed useful skills in vectorworks.
1STUDIO Universal Design Studio bought a building next door and are currently expanding. I was assigned with the design, development, planning application, and overseeing construction. The GF will be two meeting rooms, FF will be studio space, 2F will be model making, 3F will be the directors studio. GF has also been used as a temporary London Design Festival space for MAP, UDS’s sister company. Construction is currently on going, set to finish end of December

SOU FUJIMOTO projects 1Hokkaido
2Chibba 3Paris
My time in Japan taught me many lessons, one of them being to not be afraid to think outside the box, but also to produce many iterations for the same concept. My diagrams, conceptual thinking, renderings and illustrator skills were greatly improved. My patience and dedication to architecture were greatly tested with the 14 hour, 7 day, work days.
1HOKKAIDO
This is a project for Sou Fujimoto’s hometown, Hokkaido. He was asked to design an emblematic bridge for the town. The concept draws on Hokkaido’s famous hills for inspiration, creating a weaving passage through different colored flora, resulting in a ‘floating forest’.

6CHIBBA Competition for a town hall in Chiba, the south of Japan, a city surrounded by mountains. The concept is to bring to life the surrounding mountains, through the flow of the white roof. The space doubles both as a town hall and a community center. It is largely transparent to help bring the outside-inside and to allow flexibility of use.

SMNG-A
1Chicago 2Kiosk
Smng-a was my first job out of architecture school and it was a good introduction to the field. I worked for a year on a complete set of drawings for a Chicago Public school. I focused a lot on drawing standards being in charge of elevations and plans. I also did a lot of spec control and electrical coordination.
1CHICAGO
SMNG-A has been the Chicago public school architect of record for the last five years. In 2014 Chicago went through massive public spending cuts which reflect their tolerance for spending in architecture. SMNG-A was chosen to design this school as a guide line for the next phase of public school building. The project finished construction and opened during summer of 2016.
