I’m Annmariz Milagros. I’m an illustrator and character artist from Milpitas, CA. Big inspirations, to me, would be the people I am surrounded by (family, close and far friends) and especially the food I love.

What does "liberation" mean to you?

Liberation is to speak out and express yourself in any way one can! To me, it’s having open, non-judgmental, interpersonal discussions. As well as freely expressing oneself—living your true self.

Is your creative practice one of liberation?

I believe so. I would call myself quiet, and find it hard to express myself verbally, so through visual art and comics I feel that I’m able to show my own joy, frustration, sadness, etc. To create is something I find joy in—from the characters that I create to the food I love.

How can art be a tool in the revolution?

Art is a tool of revolution because it’s a marker of the time, and shows the larger mass and future generations what the fight is about.

Share a little bit about your creative process!

My primary program I use to illustrate is Procreate on the iPad. I love to do initial sketches as a warm up, doesn’t even have to do anything with the planned subject, then brainstorm and sketch out the planned piece. Most of the time I’m good with silence, but put me on some feel good podcasts or music and I get in the zone.
