A cairn is a Gaelic word that refers to a small stack of stones built with a purpose, often a memorial or landmark.
This human endeavor to stack stones dates back to prehistory typically as a burial marker and it was carried on as a Celtic tradition in Ireland, a primitive form of sculpture that became a muse for artists and poets including Seamus Heaney. The tradition continues right through to today along hiking trails around the world. Here on Martha’s Vineyard, this folk art is a common expression, but one that carries a meaning as individual as the person who chooses to stack the stones. You will see these cairns here and there, from the big sweep of South Beach to the narrow stretch of State Beach.
The memories that are made here on this Island are indeed often stacked like these stones, one memory upon another with a golden sunset filtering through the layers of stone. The base stone of these memories are often formed by long days on the beach or an exploration of the hiking trails and bike paths. The next stone might be a midday stroll through the shops of Edgartown, Vineyard Haven, or Oak Bluffs. A next stone on the stack might be exploring up-Island in Chilmark and Aquinnah. And as the memories taper into the smaller stones they might be shaped by the fine restaurants you can find or the simple joy of ordering oysters on the half shell at one of the fish markets in the picturesque fishing village of Menemsha. As you select your stones, remember to take in the unusual diversity of the Island — its origins are to be discovered through the living community of the Wampanoag Native Americans, the rich history of early English settlers can be seen through the whaling industry, its Black heritage can be followed through the African-American Heritage Trail, and its new and vibrant Brazilian community seems to be right there on every corner. Each one of these different groups represents layer upon layer of cultures that have now been stacked one upon the other, forming the cairn that is Martha’s Vineyard.
We hope you might take some time this spring to build your own cairn and leave your own mark along the shore or out on a trail. Most of all, we want to welcome you and we hope you enjoy your time here.

Vineyard
Haven isn’t just for lunch anymore
Try a night out at the Attic for cocktails, apps, and a delicious dinner.
BY JENNA SYLVIA
Having grown up on Martha’s Vineyard, getting to see the slow and steady transition of our primary port town has been exhilarating. V.H. used to be the place you would go to grab coffee, sit down for a quick lunch, peruse some local retail outlets, or drive through on your way home from the boat. Now it has become another Island dining hub, with bustling restaurants serving all kinds of cuisine. While it is thoroughly exciting to have a number of dining options to choose from in Vineyard Haven (even in the off-season!), I have to say that the Attic has become one of my favorites.
I am a huge fan of Waterside Market, and being its upstairs neighbor/sister restaurant, the Attic has been on my list of restaurants to try for a long time now. It was the half-price appetizers from 4 to 6 pm daily that got me in the door, and it did not disappoint. My husband and I made a mad dash after work to make it in time for the half-price apps, and while they were delicious enough that we would’ve happily paid full price anyway, the restaurant fills up quickly, so I am glad we did! That being said, even with the place going from almost empty to a line at the door within its first hour and a half of dinner service, our server was still incredibly attentive, and everything arrived at our table quickly.
We started with a Cosmopolitan and an Old-Fashioned, and while these classic cocktails are seemingly simple, they are easily fumbled as well, and the bartender did not disappoint. Next, we ordered Buffalo Chicken
Wings to share. Having worked in the restaurant business for years, with a few summers at Coop de Ville in the mix, I consider myself a bit of a chicken wing connoisseur. These wings achieved that perfect balance of crispiness, while still being smothered in sauce. The Buffalo sauce spice level might not bring you to tears, but it provides enough of a kick that you find yourself grateful for the generous side of

blue cheese for dipping. Next, my date ordered the Smash Burger, and I combined two more appetizers for my entrée — the Tuna Tartare and the Sweet Chili Brussels Sprouts. I would love to be able to report on the Smash Burger, but my husband, who is usually pretty generous, wasn’t willing to give up a bite. It looked beautiful, cooked to perfection and smothered in “special sauce,” with a pile of golden-brown and seasoned french fries on the side. My Tuna
Tartare was bursting with fresh flavor, and balanced nicely by the wasabi aioli. Not to mention the tortilla crisps it is served with — I am gluten-free, and the crips were so delicious I had to call the waitress over to double-check if they were safe for me, a feeling my fellow celiacs know all too well. The crisps were in fact gluten-free, as the menu promised, and my palette disagreed with, in the best way possible. Which brings me to the crispy, spicy, chiliglazed Brussels sprouts. Usually I have to sadly avoid a good chili glaze, but this was made gluten-free as well, with no compromise of flavor. The wonderful crispy leaves and soft savory inside of the sprouts made for the perfect vessel for the delicious sauce.
I wanted to order dessert, or maybe even the signature espresso martini that I had heard rave reviews about, but my date was reaching a blissfully uncomfortable level of fullness, and asked that we save that for next time. I mean, he should’ve just shared some of his burger and fries with me to avoid this problem, but I will take any excuse I can go back. Perfect cocktails (and a beautiful-looking mocktail list!), delicious and reasonably priced food, a cozy atmosphere, and impeccable service have made the Attic a place I see myself frequenting. And that’s not to mention a menu that is incredibly accommodating of dietary restrictions, in a creative and delicious way.
The Attic is currently open 4 to 9 pm Sunday through Thursday, and 4 to 10 pm Friday and Saturday, 82 Main St., Vineyard Haven, on the second floor; 508-687-9448.

If you’re yearning for a good flick, the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center offers a wealth of choices year-round, annually screening more than 200 feature and short films to more than 60,000 patrons every year. There are daily shows of first-run movies, but Founder/Executive Director Richard Paradise includes monthly special events, and this spring is no exception.
Metropolitan Opera Live is back on March 23 with “Roméo et Juliette,” featuring two singers at the height of their powers — radiant soprano Nadine Sierra and tenor sensation Benjamin Bernheim coming together as the
star-crossed lovers in Gounod’s sumptuous Shakespeare adaptation, with Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin on the podium to conduct one of the repertoire’s most romantic scores. Bartlett Sher’s towering staging also features baritone Will Liverman and tenor Frederick Ballentine as the archrivals Mercutio and Tybalt, mezzo-soprano Samantha Hankey as the mischievous pageboy Stéphano, and bass-baritone Alfred Walker as Frère Laurent. A free screening of “The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” is set for March 27 with guest speaker neurologist Dr. Andrew E. Budson, who will give a presentation and

afterwards sign copies of his new book, “Why We Forget and How to Remember Better: The Science Behind Memory,” as part of the Film Center’s Science on Screen program. The film tells the story about how after a painful breakup, Clementine (Kate Winslet) undergoes a procedure to erase memories of her former boyfriend Joel (Jim Carrey) from her mind. When Joel discovers that Clementine is going to extremes to forget their relationship, he undergoes the same procedure and slowly begins to forget the woman that he loved. Directed by former music video director Michel Gondry, the visually interesting film explores relationships and the pain of loss.
Paradise shares, “The whole point of the series is not to show a documentary on science. It’s to screen a popular movie and then pull out some science relevance from it, followed by a related presentation. Memory has become a big part of our thinking; for instance, when we think about Alzheimer’s, music helps people.”
Sprinkled throughout April is this year’s Film Noir series consisting of three late 1940s movies shot by John Alton, who organizer, cartoonist, and educator Paul Karasik believes

“is the architect of Noir and one of the greatest of all cinematographers.” On April 10 will be “T-Men,” a semi-documentary and police procedural style film noir about United States Treasury agents. On April 17 it’s “Raw Deal,” about a man who has taken the rap for another, who then double-crosses him with a flawed
escape plan and other means to get rid of him. The series concludes with the April 24 showing of “He Walked by Night,” also shot with a semi-documentary tone. It is loosely based on Erwin “Machine-Gun” Walker, a former Glendale, Calif., police department employee and World War II veteran who unleashed a crime spree of burglaries, robberies, and shootouts in the Los Angeles area in 1945 and 1946.
The spring season ends with the Exhibition on Screen showing of “John Singer Sargent” on April 27, which revels in the glittering world of fashion, scandal, and shameless self-promotion that made Sargent a portraitist who captured the spirit of a vibrant and rapidly changing age. Hailed as the greatest portrait artist of his era, Sargent had remarkable power over his sitters, what they wore, and how they were presented. Through interviews with curators, contemporary fashionistas, and style influencers, Exhibition on Screen’s film will examine how the artist’s unique practice has influenced modern art, culture, and fashion.

No matter the time of year, Featherstone Center for the Arts is always hopping. When speaking to executive director Ann Smith about the spring season, she shares, “Featherstone has scheduled so many creative offerings for March and April!”
First off, you can drop by any day of the week from noon to 4 pm to see their always intriguing art exhibitions in the beautiful, light-infused Francine Kelly Gallery. Through March 30, will be “MVC@50: Balancing Conservation + Growth.” The Martha’s Vineyard Commission (MVC) is the regional planning agency for the Island and the Elizabeth Islands that helps protect and enhance the environment, economy, character, and social fabric. Smith explains, “The MVC@50 will be a wonderful compilation of accomplishments and challenges of the staff, the commissioners, and the public in protecting the Island of Martha’s
Vineyard. Designers Steve Zablotny and Peggy Turner Zablotny have worked extensively with the staff and chair, Fred Hancock, to bring to life the history of the Commission. Photographer Alison Shaw will be featured in the show. Viewers will walk away with a much better sense of how Martha’s Vineyard has developed and been preserved these past 50 years.”
On view from April 7-28 will be “Take Flight—A Look from Above,” a community art exhibition in which local artists can take the theme in any direction and any medium that strikes their fancy. (Opening reception: Sunday, April 7, 4 to 6 pm.) Smith shares, “The April Show is all about a different point of view, especially for our numerous drone photographers and all artists who may take on a view from higher ground. Our community of artists will receive the challenge!”
However, Featherstone is not just about looking at art but getting your creative

juices going as well. There are a plethora of Spring options.
On March 19 from 3 pm to 6pm is Murray’s Dyeing & Painting with Natural Inks, where students will create handmade dye and ink using plant pigments from natural dye baths. They will then discover the basics of natural dyeing with shibori-resist methods to dye a cotton bandana and those for extracting pigments to create a palette of liquid inks. These inks will be used to experiment with mark-making, pattern, and visual color stories on paper and fiber to connect with local flora throughout the season.

from 6-8 pm, where students will fashion a mug using hand-building techniques. At the end of the session, participants can select a glaze finish, and their mug will be fired, glazed, and then available for pick-up three weeks later.
Murray will return again to teach Eco Printing with Plants on April 3 from 4 to 7 pm. Eco-printing is the process of bundling and steaming both plants and food waste onto either fabric or paper, allowing the natural pigments to transfer to the prepared substrate. All the colors, shapes, and textures that bond with the fiber come from the materials themselves. Participants will print on a cotton bandana, tote bag, and linen cloth to create beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces that can be admired forever.
You can learn the art of painting with wool to invent your own felted landscape “painting” using a 6-inch wooden hoop in Painting with Wool with Rory Valentine on April 13 from
12 to 4 pm. Needle fleeting is a dynamic technique using barbed needles to entangle wool fibers. Each student will warp their loom and experiment with “bookmark” weaving techniques to create texture, color stories, and patterns on the frame.
Valentine will also teach a Sachiko Stitching workshop on April 14 from 10 am to 12 pm. Here, students will revitalize heirlooms and fabric home goods with visible mending. The workshop will explore patching, darning, Japanese Sashiko stitching, and other embroidery techniques to artfully repair, renew, and reuse your clothing and textiles for years to come.
Of course, if you are going to be on-Island for any length of time, Feath-
erstone also has a wide plethora of classes to choose from.
Fortunately, no matter your interest or timeframe, there are many ways to feed your creative spirit this spring.

Misty Meadows Equine Learning Center offers much more than riding.
BY ABBY REMER
HORSE
Misty Meadows Equine Learning Center is one of the Vineyard’s treasures, beloved by visitors and Islanders alike. Ten horses pasture on an bucolic property of 20 acres, which sports a spacious indoor arena, comfy barn, and a mindfulness sensory trail with different musical instruments and tactile objects to enjoy as you walk through.
Misty Meadows connects people of all ages and abilities to horses and the natural environment through unique, innovative, and inclusive offerings that provide an understanding of our emotional and physical needs, and how horses can enhance and improve one’s health and wellness.
Youth and adult horsemanship offerings include riding skills, unmounted partnership exercises, horse care skills, and the ability to understand, interpret, and adjust to how horses see the world. Misty Meadows’ renowned therapeutic horsemanship experiences are designed for people with special needs, ages four years and up, who may require additional support to participate safely and effectively in activities. No matter what draws you to Misty Meadows, though, the benefits of partnering with horses are far-reaching and include social and emotional development, physical gains, and cognitive improvements.
If you are only on the Vineyard for a short
stay…or are on-Island and want a memorable experience, then Journey with the Herd is a perfect fit. Designed for young and old alike and groups of three to as many as 30 people, this unmounted experience is one of a kind, quite literally, as it is never the same.
Journey with the Herd is part of Misty Meadows’ Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) for a family or group of friends or colleagues that helps develop life skills through unmounted, horse-related, group-based skill-building activities and discussions. Horses are sensitive herd animals with their own social rules and group dynamics. We can gain confidence and personal insights by learning their language and establishing bonds with them.
Executive director Sarah McKay explains, “It is a super cool activity where people can come as a family or a group. We begin by letting three to four horses loose in the arena and give them some toys to play with such as hula hoops, pool noodles, balls, and the like. We then quietly observe how they communicate with one another. The follow-up conversation might, for instance, be about which horse was in the lead. What did you notice about how they moved together? How did they let each other know what they wanted? It’s fascinating even for those of us who are experienced horse people because it looks different every time.”
What is it that horses can teach us exactly? Well, just some include that a herd is necessary for survival and that there is safety in numbers; another member of the herd is always looking out for the good of each member. Likewise, the importance of being present and letting it go — horses aren't concerned about the past or the future.
McKay explains that next is an experiential activity where they give participants a task such as going into the arena and working together in total silence to build a structure or “bridge” to represent their journey to the Island using the same toys that the horses in-

teracted with. “The activity is a jumping-off point for a discussion about their interpretation of the structure as well as the group dynamics, and it’s fascinating because it’s never what you think. We then invite the horses to walk through the space with them. We have some horses that like to play and run around and have fun, so it’s always interesting.”
If the group is younger, the experiential portion might include grooming or leading the horses after the herd observation. Here, the children get to see what it is like to connect to the horses and how the horses react to them. McKay says about Journey with the
Herd, " It can vary depending on who shows up. Even people who have a lot of experience with horses really enjoy it.”
Misty Meadows also hosts a festive Easter Egg hunt coordinated by their active and dedicated Teen Advisory Board. All are welcome on March 30 from 10 am to 12 noon. In addition to the hunt, there will be face painting, an obstacle course for kids to run through, and, of course, horses will be there to meet and greet. “Last year,” McKay recounts, “We had estimated that we’d have 230-300 people show up and planned accordingly and instead had over 1,000 on
the property. You would never have known other than where we were parking cars. You didn’t have a sense of how many people were actually here because they were able to spread out and do so many things.”
Misty Meadows welcomes folks to simply enjoy their picturesque horse farm, walk the property, explore the mindfulness sensory trail, and connect with their beautiful herd in a safe environment any time, Monday through Saturday, from 9 am to 5 pm. Large g roups sho uld ride in smaller clusters of s everal cyclists , spac ed from other clusters to allow cars oppo rtunit ies to s afely pass. Ride outside the door zone. Move off the road, s hared us e path or trail when stopping.
ACT SAFELY AND PREDICTABLY
Wear a properly fitt ed helmet. Make sure you can see and be s een. At nig ht, you must have both a front light and rear red light . Ride a s traig ht line and only pas s on the left. Be courteous.
RESPECT THE RULES OF THE ROAD
Obey all traffic laws. Cyclists on roadways have t he same rights and responsibilities as automobile drivers . Stop for stop signs and ride with t raffic, especially on one-way streets. Signal t urns whenever safe. Ride no more t han two abreast (single file is safer). Yield right of way when appropriate.
THINK AHEAD AND COMMUNICATE
Know what to expect: shared use pat hs exist mainly down-island (Vineyard Haven, Oak B luffs, Edgartown) ; up-island is hilly with no road shoulders . Adjust your speed around slower cyclists and pedest rians. Scan ahead and anticipate what o thers might do. Communicate actions and hazard s . Warn others when passing.

Music in the air
The Island offers lots of great local musical talent to enjoy this spring.
BY ABBY REMER
Spring is in the air, and so are the dulcet sounds of music being played on the Vineyard. There is an eclectic mix and something for everyone.
Try the Ukulele Jam on alternate Thursdays, March 21, April 4 and 18, for something a little funky at the West Tisbury library, which is free like all the library programs. The Ukulele Jam is a group of musicians who like to make music, sing, and have a great time. They formed over 10 years ago with anywhere from eight to 30 players participating, and all ages and abilities are warmly welcomed. Brief instruction is provided, and the library has ukuleles to borrow, or bring your guitar or banjo.
The West Tisbury library will also offer its Second Sunday Jazz concerts that began in 2018. These hugely popular monthly performances feature local and guest musicians. New and regulars flock to these concerts, which are always both lively and relaxed. Also at the West Tisbury library will be Julian Loida on March 20 at 4:30 pm. As a percussionist, composer, and producer, Loida’s musical curiosity and open-mindedness have propelled him towards a wide range of sounds, genres, and artistic endeavors. He’s performed jazz, folk, and classical, collaborating with dancers, visual artists, songwriters/ composers, and musicians of all stripes. For Loida, music is a full-body experience, with sounds often invoking involuntary sensations of color, texture, or even taste.
Broadway will come calling from March 22 through 24 at the Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse with the 10th-anniversary celebration of the Wicked Good Musical Revue. The tradition began with then-musical director Molly Conole and three or four singers casually getting together to sing Broadway tunes during the off-season in the Playhouse.

PLAYHOUSE
LARISA STINGA
It evolved into more elaborate, fully staged, and choreographed performances as the years went on. All of the regular singers that have been involved over the years will be performing. “We’ve reached back in the archives,” says musical director David Behnke. “It will be many of the favorite things that each of us
have done. It’s been great pulling everyone back together for a real celebration.” (For tickets and times, visit mvplayhouse.org.)
Get ready for the Jon Bates Band at the end of March. They will appear from 8 to 10 pm both at the Portuguese American Club on March 22 and The Ritz on March 23, entertaining the crowd with classic blues, rock, and soul. They will then be up-Island on March 24, 2:30 pm at the West Tisbury library, with two vocalists, Steve Riddick and Debbie Major, singing jazz standards, American ballads, and selections from the American songbook.
Music Street group will also perform at the West Tisbury library on March 30, 4 pm. The awardwinning graduates of Boston’s New England Conservatory instrumentalists and vocalists delight in bringing colorful themed programs filled with lively historical and musical narration to create a stimulating context for their events. At the same time, renowned Vineyard pianist Jeremy Berlin and guitarist and singer Delanie Pickering will perform jazz standards and more for free at the Edgartown library on March 30 from 3 to 4 pm.
As we roll into April, the Island Community Chorus (ICC) will delight us with their spring

concerts on Friday, April 5, at 7:30 pm, and Saturday, April 6, at 3 pm at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown. Founded in 1996, ICC is made up of some 80 singers and is recognized as a cultural treasure on the Vineyard. The program will feature Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria” (RV 589), performed with a chamber orchestra. The Gloria was probably composed around 1715 in Venice. It is an exuberant and uplifting 12-movement work, and since its rediscovery and revival in the 1930s, it has become one of the most beloved works of choral literature. The concert will also feature the world premiere performance of music director William Peek’s cantata “Soon It Is Day.” This three-movement work for chorus and piano was completed in 2020. Its texts are drawn from the poetry of Edna St. Vincent Millay and James Agee. A $20 donation is requested of adults; student admission is free.

With so many stunning walking trails and natural spaces on the Island, it can be tough to figure out exactly which spots to hit first. The TrailsMV mobile app took off in June of 2018 — it was established by members of the Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation in collaboration with the Martha’s Vineyard Commission, the Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank, Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary, Polly Hill Arboretum, Vineyard Conservation Society, The Trustees of Reservations, Vineyard Open Land Foundation, Mass. Department of Conservation and Recreation, The Nature Conservancy, and the six Martha’s Vineyard towns.

Local folks and visitors alike have been loving the app — it’s been downloaded thousands of times since its launch.
letter. “Last year, Sheriff’s Meadow evaluated the software limitations of its popular TrailsMV mobile app and embarked on an ambitious and dynamic redesign …” the newsletter reads. “The result — TrailsMV 2.0 — is now available free in the App Store and Google Play. It’s an ongoing multi-phase project with great potential, and we welcome your input and ideas.”
The app provides a comprehensive look at all the publicly accessible conservation lands on the Vineyard, including more than 220 miles of trails and more than 100 protected properties.
There are a lot of things to enjoy on the TrailsMV app. Folks can check out a full map of the Island and can click to view each individual property. There is also information available regarding important events, alerts for closures or maintenance, and links to articles and publicly-shared photos of each spot. Maybe you’re new to the Island and want a little more guidance; the app includes curated excursions with fascinating ecological and historical information.

One big project that the TrailsMV team is working on is their Accessibility Project — to evaluate the conditions of the Island’s conservation properties for folks with disabilities and limited mobility. According to the newsletter, TrailsMV is working with Dick Cohen, a retired disability rights lawyer, and collaborating with many people and organizations to gather input and craft an Island-wide report. The accessibility initiative is made possible with support from the Edey Foundation, the Martha’s Vineyard Community Foundation, and the Martha’s Vineyard Bank Charitable Foundation. The Island Disability Coalition and its member groups also participated. The Farm Neck Foundation and Cape Cod Five have also supported the new TrailsMV upgrade.
It's easy to download the TrailsMV app. Go to the App store or Google Play and enter TrailsMV in the search bar. Then download the app and start exploring! If you need to upgrade the app, simply delete it and redownload.

Martha’s Vineyard Museum has a packed schedule this spring.
BY ABBY REMER
From March 2 through May 26 will be “Percy Cowen: My Dearest Jane,” which features this accomplished illustrator’s letters that he wrote home to his wife from overseas during World War I.
The Martha’s Vineyard Museum, our treasure up on the hill in Vineyard Haven, just a 10-minute walk from the Steamship Authority, offers plenty to see and do during the spring season.
If you want to get oriented right off the bat, you can join one of the 2 pm Friday or Sunday gallery walks, free with museum admission. In terms of what’s new, through July 14, there is the “Clifford: Our Big Red Dog” exhibit for kids — and for the child in us all. Clifford has been delighting young and old alike for over 60 years. This experiential show invites us to play, explore, and learn about Clifford and the man who brought him to life, Norman Bridwell, who called the Vineyard home for over four decades.
“C.F. Giordano: Clearly Misunderstood,” on view through May 5, showcases the extraordinary artistic journey of Charlie Giordano and his motorcycle masterpiece, “Voodoo Doll,” which he built over two years in his West Tisbury shop during the solitude and challenges of the pandemic era. This unique exhibition includes tools, videos, drawings, and photographs to reflect the intersection of Giordano’s creativity, mechanical mastery, and personal creative process.
From March 2 through May 26 will be “Percy Cowen: My Dearest Jane,” which features this accomplished illustrator’s letters that he wrote home to his wife from overseas during World War I. On loan from the Cowen fam-
ily, the illustrated envelopes and letters filled with drawings of Percy’s experi ences have been preserved for over a century. Programming and community outreach director Laurel Redington observes, “The letters and enve lopes are filled with his drawings, but the show is also about how beautifully people communi cated at the time.”
Opening on April 2 will be “From Here to There and Back Again: Ferries from the MVM Collection.” The museum’s models will cover over 300 years of maritime history, tracing it from colonial vessels up through today’s Steamship Authority and reminding us that we do, indeed, live on an Island. In terms of programs, one of the museum’s new endeavors is its weekly Friday Resets from 5 to 8 pm, where you can join in for an evening of board games, crafts, puzzles, light bites, and a special featured activity each week. Whether you’re immersing yourself in crafting, playing games, enjoying live music, or savoring a complimentary light bite and beverage, there’s a way for everyone to unwind. Redington says, “Friday Resets are for everyone who wants to get to bed early but still
get out and have a little bit of food and maybe play some games. It is an opportunity for adults to recapture their old creative impulses.”
Thursday, March 28th, from 5:30 6:30 pm, brings Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Building, conducted by Charlie Giordano, jumping off the theme in his “Clearly Misunderstood” exhibition. The immersive workshop, designed for teens and motorcycle enthusiasts alike, will

Research librarian Bo Van Riper brings us “Names on the Land” on April 11, where you can discover who Martha is, who Edgar is, and the like. “It’s an exploration of how the history of Martha’s Vineyard is written in the place names on its maps,” Redington says.
Of course, the museum’s permanent exhibitions and the exquisite Rose Styron Garden are always available and a great way to pass a few fascinating hours.
