OUR MISSION

Our hope is that this library provides a solution to the lack of access and education for outdoor recreation activities in Northwest Arkansas. The Northwest Arkansas region hosts many places for people to explore the outdoors and experience nature’s beauty. This library is a wilderness safety education place as well as a place to rent camping, biking, climbing and water activity gear. The library hosts a comprehensive gear collection for all outdoor adventure needs and provides those who can’t purchase or store all this gear with the opportunity to explore and enjoy the outdoors. This library strives to help the environment through education and reuse of items. Our hope is that the library will allow people to be more present in their daily lives, less stressed and more in touch with their bodies and nature.

7

02 DESIGN IDEAS

Taking inspiration from nature and Arkansas outdoor activities, these visual properties become grounded through iteration and spacemaking.

COLLAGES

The library builds community. Both on outdoor adventures and within the walls of the library, community and relationships are being built. Being outdoors takes your focus away from work, stress, emails. The library offers new opportunities for people fix their heart on what is important in their life- people rather than projects or other things that occupy so much of our time.

Movement. The library supports the movement of people. The abstracted paddle dipping into water shows the serenity of movement and wellbeing. The dynamic heights of the collage show the depth of movement. One can dip into a new adventure or simply move their body.

10

The library provides access to outdoor activities for all people no matter their financial circumstances. This collage illustrates that you can climb above financial barriers through the use of the library and that everyone can seek new heights.

The outdoors is an opportunity for mindfulness and finding your way. This library promotes all outdoor activity and this allows for people to take time in the outdoors to reflect, find their path and explore the nature around them and look inward at their own walk in life.

How can one become healthy? Take your vitamins. How can one distress? Anxiety pills. This library offers people a way for people to get outside and naturally get their vitamin d. Being outdoors fosters a healthy lifestyle and can help relieve stress.

FIGURE GROUND

An abstraction of the previously shown collages to explore figure ground relationships.
13

The layering of cubic forms, cutting way and joinging eachother.

The mass form of curvelienar shpaes mimicking that in the collages of rope tied together.

Curvelinear form with angled edges creating a volumetic change in height in the space

14

This model shows movement and traveling through a path. Like a paddle moving through water, or a hiker at the water’s edge looking up at bluffs, this space creates a dynamic user experience. The guest walks through the space to explore the library. Similar to the hills in Arkansas this model shows curve and natural form in space.

THE HOW

By carefully curating space, this library aims to improve the quality of life for the people of Fayetteville. The library allows them to explore NWA. Through a full inventory, organized storage, and a fully staffed space, the library is comfortable for all. The goal is to step lightly on the earth by using window treatments, and minimizing the number of varying materials and finishes in the project. In order to support adventure and safety, we have safety guides for all products as well as training spaces on site in the library. Clear way finding is a key part of this as well. By creating nature like space we invite people in. The use of a openness and site lines and nature inspired design make these principles possible.

BIKE GUIDE

HYBRID BIKE

One can use a hybrid bike for road cycling, light off-road cycling, commuting, touring, or even just going to the bar. By melding mountain bike and road bike features, you gain a fast, comfortable, and reliable bike. This bike is a jack of all trades.

HARDTAIL MTN. BIKE

These bikes are for use on smooth trails and to climb hills. They can also be used on gravel and smooth single track. They are a great bike for improving skills, going faster, and commuting to work or school.

FULL SUSPENSION MTN. BIKE

A full suspension mounatin bike is best for those who intend to ride really technical terrain. The extra suspension improves how easily the bike can move over rougher trails and singletrack. They’re more forgiving of rider errors when it comes to choosing lines compared to a hardtail. These allow lots of comfort and give you the best speed on technical trails.
