WHO IS SAINT LAURENT NOW?

CURRENT SAINT LAURENT ANALYSIS

Saint Laurent, originally founded as Yves Saint Laurent in 1961 by French designer Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé, emerged as one of the first couture houses to introduce luxury ready-to-wear fashion, transforming the industry. Yves Saint Laurent broke traditional boundaries and became synonymous with modern elegance and empowerment. Today, Saint Laurent offers luxurious clothing, accessories, beauty products, and special events all characterized by a blend of timeless sophistication and contemporary edge. The brand has a vision of creating and curating style, not just fashion trends. The brand is known for work defined by sleek tailoring, edgy silhouettes, and seamless integration of high fashion with functional elegance.

Saint Laurent stores are designed to embody the brand’s timeless elegance through clean, minimalist interiors. Premium materials like marble and polished metals bring a luxurious feel that reflects the haute couture roots of the brand while emphasizing modern luxury. Each store is thoughtfully laid out to showcase Saint Laurent’s collections in open, refined spaces that invite a sense of exclusivity. Temporary stores and pop-up locations bring this high-end experience to more areas, adjusting in scale but maintaining a cohesive brand look with refined, accessible aesthetics. In large retail stores, Saint Laurent’s shop-in-shops seamlessly blend into the space while using custom displays, signature color schemes, and unique layouts to offer a focused, sophisticated shopping experience aligned with the brand’s iconic style.

SAINT LAURENT STORE REFRESH

In our Saint Laurent rebranding and store design project, we drew inspiration from Yves Saint Laurent’s deep connection to Africa, especially his time spent in Marrakech, Morocco—a place he cherished as a creative escape and where he developed many of his iconic designs. Saint Laurent’s African influence has shaped parts of the brand, including dedicated fashion lines and even a museum. We wanted to channel this vibrant aspect of the brand’s heritage to create a store atmosphere that felt warm, lively, and rooted in Yves’ creative sanctuary.

To achieve this, we incorporated the dynamic colors, textures, and materials reminiscent of Moroccan aesthetics, transforming the space into a Saint Laurent experience like no other. Drawing on elements of a traditional Moroccan courtyard, we designed a central feature and incorporated symmetrical layout elements around the store’s perimeter, evoking a sense of balance and harmony. We used rich materials like terracotta tiles, dark brown marble, and a striking pop of blue marble to add warmth and depth. Our goal was to honor Saint Laurent’s current store aesthetic of simplicity and elegance while adding a unique, playful twist inspired by his African roots.
