I must confess that writing this brief letter being in the midst of this pandemic, is a challenge, especially trying to focus on the positive while so many are still struggling. However, trying to make some sense out of all the craziness we have lived through the last ten months, if there is something valuable we got out of it, is to reflect and value things we used to take for granted: life, family, friends, our health, our faith, our freedom to go anywhere and do all the things we love to do, just to name a few of the many things we have should have always treasured. Please allow me to present to you this new issue of LUXCIOR in our 9th year in Houston. I hope you will find valuable content you may enjoy. We look at 2021 with high expectations and the hope that this year will bring back to our lives some sort of normality, peace, and joy. odos los años se escriben y publican decenas de miles de libros, muchos de los cuales incluso se convierten en “Best Sellers”. Sin embargo, La Biblia sigue siendo, año tras año, el libro más extraordinario, más deseado, más admirado, más publicado y más vendido de todos los tiempos. Y no es de sorprender que así sea, porque esta obra no es un libro corriente escrito por alguno de los tantos pensadores y genios en las ciencias de la humanidad. La Biblia es un libro totalmente sobrenatural, pensado, elaborado, estructurado y escrito durante un período de 1600 años (1,500 a.C. a 95 d.C.) bajo la inspiración y dirección de la mente maestra e infinita del único Dios y Creador del universo, del mundo, y de todos los que lo habitamos. La Biblia misma dice de sí misma que es eterna, y que es inspirada por Dios: "Toda la Escritura es inspirada por Dios." - 2º Timoteo 3:16. Nota que cuando Pablo escribió ésta y sus demás cartas, lo que en su época se conocía como la Escritura o Biblia, era sólo el Antiguo Testamento. Los evangelios y los libros de Pablo, Juan, Santiago, Judas y Pedro fueron reconocidos como parte de la Biblia décadas después. Es decir, Pablo aquí establece, por inspiración divina, que "toda la Escritura", es decir, tanto Antiguo como Nuevo Testamento, son inspirados por Dios.

Toda la Biblia (del griego "Biblos" = "Libros") es una colección de "libros" ensamblada durante un período de 16 siglos. ¡Imagina eso! Cabe destacar que si bien es cierto que fue escrita por decenas de hombres guiados por la mente superbrillante de DIos, es extraordinario que una pequeña porción de toda la Biblia fue escrita personalmente por él mismo, de su puño y letra, es a saber, los 10 Mandamientos (plasmados en Éxodo 20): "Y dio a Moisés, cuando acabó de hablar con él en el monte de Sinaí, dos tablas del testimonio, tablas de piedra escritas con el dedo de Dios." - Éxodo 31:18

"Y las tablas eran obra de Dios, y la escritura era escritura de Dios grabada sobre las tablas." - Éxodo 32:16 Irónicamente, a pesar de que la inmensa mayoría de la población hispana y en general somos cristianos (llámanse católicos, protestantes, evangélicos, mormones, adventistas, etc.), pocos saben esto, y menos aún los que a pesar de saberlo, tienen la curiosidad de saber qué es lo que Dios escogió "escribirnos en piedra". Y si poco interesa saber lo que Dios escribió con su propia mano, ¿cuánto menos los mensajes que él envió por medio de sus mensajeros o profetas y que quedó plasmado en las páginas de la Biblia? Me deja atónito ver la falta de interés en un libro que que trae un mensaje cósmico de parte del mismísimo Creador de todas las cosas y que literalmente cambiaría nuestras vidas. Irónicamente, sí encontramos tiempo para pasar horas leyendo novelas, mirando películar o en el celular leyendo los posts de personas que no tienen nada que ofrecernos. No existe en toda la Biblia un solo concepto, una sola enseñanza, un solo pensamiento, una sola frase, que no lleve el sello de la divinidad, y esto la convierte en una obra que trasciende el tiempo, las culturas, las nacionalidades y las circunstancias en que vivimos. Todos reconocemos que la Biblia es un libro sagrado, y la última autoridad en todo asunto concerniente a la humanidad. Y sin embargo, pocos le dedican siquiera algo de tiempo y atención, no entendiendo que ella es un completo Manual de Vida, donde se esconden los secretos más extraordinarios jamás revelados al hombre, y tiene la respuesta a todas las preguntas más relevantes que éste pueda hacerse acerca de la vida y la muerte, el tiempo y la eternidad, el pasado, el presente y el futuro del mundo, el bien y el mal, las virtudes y las debilidades, la creación del hombre y de todas las cosas, la salud, los alimentos, la ciencia verdadera, el matrimonio, la educación de los hijos y el hogar, la

LITERATURA felicidad, las relaciones inter-personales, las finanzas, la vida en otros mundos, el juicio y el infierno, y miles de temas de la más tremenda importancia para cada uno de nosotros. Y al descubrir las maravillosas verdades reveladas en la Biblia, entendemos al mismo tiempo la mente y naturaleza de Dios, y terminamos descubriendo que es un ser maravilloso y profundamente interesado en ti, en tu vida, en tu bienestar presente, y en tu futuro. Entender la Biblia no está reservado al entendimiento de un grupo selecto de sabios, sacerdotes o teólogos. Dios reveló los más profundos misterios para beneficio de todos los seres humanos, y todos podemos entenderla. La Biblia Eterna dice que “el que anduviere por este camino, por torpe que sea, no se perderá” - Isaías 35:8. Esto quiere decir que la revelación puede llegar con claridad a cualquier persona que la busque.

Las Profecías y la Supernaturalidad de la Biblia Insisto en recalcar que la Biblia no es un libro común. Es muy diferente. Está "vivo", es decir, tiene un poder sobrenatural propio e intrínseco. No hay nada de especial ni mágico en el papel ni en las portadas, el poder está en las palabras que contienen, porque éstas provienen directamente de Dios. Y cuando digo que en esas palabras hay poder, no lo digo en un sentido espiritual o simbólico, lo digo de manera muy literal. Nota lo que el mismo Dios dice al respecto: "Porque como desciende de los cielos la lluvia y la nieve, y no vuelve allá, sino que riega la tierra, y la hace germinar y producir, y da semilla al que siembra, y pan al que come, así será mi palabra que sale de mi boca; no volverá a mí vacía, sino que hará lo que yo quiero, y será prosperada en aquello para que la envié." – Isaías 55:10, 11 Porque la palabra de Dios es viva y eficaz, y más cortante que toda espada de dos filos; y penetra hasta partir el alma y el espíritu, las coyunturas y los tuétanos, y discierne los pensamientos y las intenciones del corazón. - Hebreos 4:12 La Biblia evidencia de muchas maneras su carácter sobrenatural. Sin embargo, una de las pruebas más contundentes de su supernaturalidad son sus profecías. Las profecías son mensajes especiales enviados por Dios a la humanidad por medio de "mensajeros", también conocidos como "profetas", a través de quienes nos declara con anticipación acontecimientos futuros. Esto ocurre en la Biblia cientos de veces. Algunas profecías son pronunciadas horas o días antes de que se materialicen, otras se extienden por décadas, otras por siglos, y la más detallada y extensa de todas, que con la mayor precisión se prolonga por 2,300 años para anunciar el Juicio, incluye intervalos que anuncian el tiempo del ministerio y la fecha exacta de la muerte de Cristo, entre otras cosas (Daniel 8 y 9). Otras profecías anuncian el levantamiento y caída de imperios tan antiguos como el babilónico (600 a.C.), medo-persa, griego, romano, e incluso extendiéndose hasta los reinos bárbaros y las actuales naciones europeas. Profecías como la de Isaías que anuncia al rey Ciro por su nombre unos 150 años antes de que apareciera en el escenario en el 539 a.C. (Isaías 44:28) dejan a historiadores y estudiosos verdaderamente perplejos.

No es entonces de sorprender que aún Estados Unidos, el imperio más poderoso del mundo por casi 250 años, también aparece claramente anunciado en la Biblia. Ni tampoco que esta pandemia, y aún otra que vendrá en el futuro cercano, están anunciadas con detalles escalofrientes desde hace 2,700 años en el libro de Isaías. Éstas y muchas otras profecías dejan claramente establecido el carácter sobrenatural de la Biblia, y mucho más importante aún, de lo que su Autor quiere comunicarnos; entre otras muchas cosas, el regreso inminente de Cristo por segunda vez a la Tierra.

¿Cómo leer la Biblia? La Biblia tiende a intimidar a primer golpe de vista por su tamaño de más de mil quinientas páginas. Esto no debiera desanimar a nadie. Es como hacer un largo viaje en auto. Asusta sólo pensar lo largo y extenuante del trayecto. Pero simplemente arrancas y una a una vas recorriendo y disfrutando de cada milla del viaje. INMIGRACION One of the challenges facing most immigrants lately is their ability to receive work authorization so they can continue to be employed and be able to provide for their families. It is very unjust, seeing working immigrants, being stripped of their basic right to work in the United States. This is even more unjust, particularly when they have had prior authorization to remain and work legally in this country, as it is the case with DACA recipients and those who have held Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

FINALLY, SOME GOOD IMMIGRATION NEWS TO START 2021! DACA and TPS are still alive!

On June 15, 2012 the Secretary of Homeland Security announced that certain individuals who came to the United States as children (under 16) and met several guidelines could request consideration of deferred action for a period of two years, as well as apply for work authorization. This was the program referred to as the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, otherwise knowns as DACA. DACA recipients are also known as “Dreamers” and there are more than 800,000 “Dreamers” in the U.S. Since 2012, the DACA program has gone through numerous changes and challenges. On September 5, 2017 the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that it was terminating the program based on a determination that DACA was an “unconstitutional exercise of authority by the Executive Branch.” The DHS would allow DACA a “wind-down” period and would stop renewing DACA applications that expired on or after March 6, 2018. Various lawsuits were filed on behalf of the dreamers and those lawsuits resulted in injunctions by federal courts requiring DHS to continue accepting applications to renew DACA. However, DHS was not required to accept initial DACA applications. On June 18, 2020 the Supreme Court in DHS. V. Regents of the University of California, ruled in favor of the dreamers, holding that the current administration did not adequately explain its decision to end DACA. This allowed the DACA program to continue. Most recently as of December 4, 2020, a U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York ordered DHS to fully reinstate the DACA program. On December 7, 2020, in compliance with the order, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) started accepting first-time requests for consideration under DACA based on the terms of the DACA policy

in effect prior to September 5, 2017. DHS now must accept DACA Renewals and Applications for Advance Parole (travel document); and must extend deferred action under DACA as well as employment authorization for DACA recipients from a one year to a two-year period. This is certainly a victory for all who support the dreamers, and those who love this country as their own. Just like DACA, the Temporary Protected Status, otherwise called as TPS is not permanent. TPS is designated for individuals who come from countries undergoing civil unrest, violence, or natural disasters, and who because of such extreme circumstances are unable to return safely to their home countries. The Secretary of Homeland Security has the discretion to designate a country for TPS for periods of 6 to 18 months and can extend these periods if the country continues to meet the conditions for designation. There are about 411,000 foreign nationals who are currently under this program. Many individuals have been under TPS since the 1990s and one can only imagine the severe stress they have gone through knowing that their TPS would expire, and the program would end as of January 10, 2021. Not only would these individuals be unable to provide for their families, but many could potentially face deportation. Immigration attorneys throughout the country were appalled by the decision to terminate TPS, and due to the immigration attorneys’ efforts and tireless litigation in Federal Courts, on December 7, 2020 DHS announced an automatic extension for TPS recipients from El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Haiti, Sudan, and Nepal, until October 4, 2021. No doubt that DACA and TPS extensions are a victory for immigrants in this country. But how long will this last? As we have seen in the previous years, these extensions are temporarily, and they can be taken away at any time when there is a change in administration. We need a more permanent solution for DACA and TPS individuals. They work and contribute with their taxes, and with their time and talent in order to make our country better. Many in this country can agree that DACA and TPS recipients need a path to residency and citizenship, and this can only be done by a comprehensive immigration reform passed by Congress.

A 2021 INVESTMENT PORTFOLIO THAT WOULD FAVOR DURING A BIDEN PRESIDENCY By Patrick Wehrly

Many investors wonder how much a new President can affect the overall economy and/or the Stock Market.

ANTICIPATED 2021 CHANGES TO BOTH PERSONAL AND CORPORATE TAXES

It is important to remember that an Incoming President brings with him a lot of new advisors, analysts as well as opinions and experiences. All of these new people can significantly affect both the economy and the stock market with taxation and foreign policy decisions, to name a few.

I will use several bullet points here to give you some options and sound advice.

We have been carefully reviewing our Clients and their investment accounts with an eye towards changes that need to be made from positions that performed well in 2020 but will not likely perform well in 2021 with all of the possible changes. One idea that has been very popular with clients -especially newincoming clients- is the idea of an Apples-to-Apples comparison report of the actual performance of their investments in 2020 side by side with the S&P 500, and also a single-stock-high-dividend conservative portfolio. here is no doubt that 2020 was a tricky year for everyone. Multiple industries were affected significantly, while others did very well. One sector faced unprecedented challenges: Marketers. The disruption of the pandemic in the consumers' daily routines created multiple challenges for traditional marketing tactics, putting a strategy in a tough spot by having to adjust campaigns countless times as they learned new information. Even with the latest technology to predict human behavior, amplify exposure, and increase engagement, 2020 was a different year. We can only expect that 2021, at least duwring its first quarter, and even going into the second one, will not be much different. Of course, the speed at which the vaccine is administered will play a key role in the trends. The traditional methods of getting things done in a certain way changed utterly; there was more interest in getting results than following standard procedures. In some cases, minor tweaks helped, but in other cases, campaigns were wiped out of the map along with the desired budget. As we wrapped 2020, marketers found ways to evolve with the changes in their industry and the world in general. New ideas and channels were tested, and existing programs were updated to accommodate changes in buying behavior. Now that the new year is here, marketers have a new challenge: planning the strategy for 2021. And what makes it more complicated, is understanding the variances from industry to industry. Again, certain industries were highly benefitted, while other sectors suffered a terrible impact. Restaurants and retailers are a great example of businesses that struggled like never before and suffered serious losses, in the best-case scenario. On the other hand, luxury automobiles and motorcycles, furniture, interior designers, plastic surgeons, are examples of sectors that saw unprecedented profits. Preparing a yearly marketing strategy is always a challenge because it requires long hours, an immense amount of research, and new ideas with action plans.

First, you must be able to predict how each specific industry will behave in the following months and anticipate if those trends will benefit or affect the strategy outcome. This will lead to spending more time in the analysis scope, starting with the main ideas in the traditional efforts and moving to expenditure budgets. Also, tough decisions need to be made to many conventional channels, especially for OOH (out of home) advertising, such as billboards and signage which most likely have impressive low rates. Without a doubt, 2021 will not be like other years. The new year comes with uncertainties about the future of the global, domestic, and local economies. This leaves us with one question: will things get back to “normal” in 2021? And is there a “new normal”? Will people go back to an office setting, or will they continue to work remotely from home? How will business travel get back to a “normal mode”? And the onemillion-dollar question: will consumers take their lives back to “normal”, going out to dinner, shopping in stores, attending concerts, playing sports? And if so, when? We may not have all the answers to these questions today, but we must still plan for multiple scenarios. In other years, your team prepares Plan A, B, and C, now you should ask them to contemplate the possibility of a Plan D, E, F, and G (if not more). The uncertainty is not only in the economy but also in people’s behaviors, in government restrictions, in schooling, and in global health. All these factors can make a strategy fail unless you plan your business to adapt quickly to the fluid changes. We prepared some suggestions that you should keep in mind as we start another unprecedented new year, that most likely will be full of surprises, so you can have a backup plan, a clear idea, and plan a more effective marketing strategy for 2021.

FINANCES Use what you learned in 2020 If you analyze your marketing efforts in 2020, you are at a great starting point, as you understand what worked and what didn't. Find the details that made an impact on your sales flow. If your business has an option for e-commerce, pay extra attention to the conversion process; this style of the buying experience is more important now than ever, as people are spending more time online and at the same time more money. According to a report by eMarketer, this pandemic accelerated e-commerce growth in the US by 30%, reaching numbers that weren't expected before 2022. If your business did not take advantage of that boost, you still have time to adjust for 2021. Another segment you should explore is the traffic-driving element. This can be done by simply answering the question: what brought traffic to my store during the pandemic? Perhaps it was a BOGO (buy one, get one free) promotion, a special deal, an extra discount, a loyalty program, or something else. If you have a business that is limited by location, promote it online within a 10-15-mile range, and use retargeted marketing as an extra tool.

Plan for the unexpected It is impossible to predict the future, but that does not mean you cannot consider a few possible scenarios. For example, if your business is currently operating with limited capacity, have a plan in mind if new restrictions reduce that number, or increase it. Similarly, you should prepare for closures, curbside, or delivery only. You do not want to live expecting the worst-case scenario, but it is something you should consider when planning your marketing strategy. The unexpected trends should help your digital reach and interactions. Do not take this lightly as this is a full-time job that requires time and dedication. It may be a good option to look for a social media expert to keep up with trends, hashtags, and topics relevant to your audience so that you may attach your brand to them.

Learn to adapt; the quicker, the better If there is something that 2020 taught us, itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s that things can change quickly, without warning, and at any given moment. No one ever even imagined things would go down this path a year ago. However, the brands that survived and grew had a strategy for adaptability, a space to adjust the processes after understanding the new normal. If you prepare for it, when things go south, it will be easier for your business to adjust your marketing efforts.

In any other year, you would prepare a strategy and keep it running against multiple factors, like changes in the economy, but this year, you may have to stop and go in a different direction. Re-evaluating your Marketing Personas to understand your audience behavior may be the last piece of advice we have for you. Things change quickly, and if your evaluation was done before the pandemic, you should consider creating a new one. The way things changed are impacting deep in peopleâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s behavior; some people are afraid of even going for a pickup; others are happier without having to interact with others as much as they did. Even with a Machine-Learning trend in the software development industry, we do not have a way to predict how 2021 will be, but we encourage you to plan and prepare for a first semester somewhat similar to 2020, with less panic, but with some ups and downs for your business.

Build on different pillars All marketing platforms reach a different audience. People you reach through the radio will likely not be the same audience you reach with television, while people watching TV may not be the same you reach through social media or a magazine. Each media type reaches a specific and targeted demographic, and each media impacts your audience in a different manner. At the same time, each media brings you a different response. For example, while social media may count for 70% of your clientele, 18% may have been attracted through television (typically the most expensive media), while 12% came to you through print advertising. If you leave television out because it's expensive, you may be giving up 18% of your business. Or if you leave a magazine out because it only attracts 12% of your revenue, you'll be giving up an audience that you would otherwise reach. Point and case, the wisest formula is to sustain your business through multiple pillars. Now, here is the key: your marketing pillars must all be active in bringing you clients at a cost-effective rate. Although your cost-per-lead maybe $100 through television, $1 through social media, and $15 through a magazine, if a new client is worth to you $500 net, you won in all three cases. If you leave the television and print out because it may be at a higher cost-per-lead than social media, you'll be giving up 30% of your potential revenue.

HOW TO MAKE A ROOM MORE FUNCTIONAL WITHOUT A MAJOR REMODEL Maybe remodeling isn’t in your near future, but that doesn’t mean you can’t add to the livability of your home with a few changes. Many rooms can change direction in simple ways without huge costs. Sometimes just rearranging the furniture and laying the space out differently helps, or it may be as simple as decluttering. If it isn’t contributing to the function of the space, then it could be time to let it go. Replacing furniture gradually with more comfortable and functional furniture is another option. Museum OF THE FUTURE Another spectacular Dubai legacy to the World, and to the future

n Dubai, where towers are built almost overnight, residents and visitors have grown adept at averting their yes from building sites. But one construction project has caught everyoneâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s attention: the Museum of the Future, which has emerged over the cityâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s driverless metro system and on the edge of the financial district. Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, announced the plans for a new Museum of the Future, intended to actively showcase futuristic inventions and support the UAEâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s mission to be a global innovation engine. The museum's opening, originally planned for 2020, on time for the very much anticipated World Expo, for obvious reasons had to be pushed to 2021. The building stands at 77m high and 30,000m2 and can be seen alongside Sheikh Zayed Road, near Emirates Towers.

The architectural futuristic shape of the museum as a torus with an elliptical void, but a giant hula hoop might be a more accessible point of reference. Lath Carlson, executive director of the Museum of the Future, prefers to compare it to an eye. “We struggle a bit to describe the building to people who haven’t seen it. There is nothing that quite evokes the shape," he admist.

The inscriptions, brought to reality by artist Mattar bin Lahej, include this quote on its exterior, from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai: “The future belongs to those who can imagine it, design it and execute it… the future does not wait… the future can be designed and built today.”

Architectural firm Killa Design, which won the design bid for the museum, created the shape. According to the architect, the solid part of the structure represents the knowledge that we have today. The void represents all that we do not yet know – in other words, the future. The calligraphy and the building’s creative shape have made this one of the most complex design and construction projects ever built. The building resembles an eye looking into the future and the form is due to Feng Shui. According to this doctrine, a round shape stands for the past, present, and future. Furthermore, it can also be equated to fertility and boundless imagination. Probably the most striking feature of the building is the Arabic calligraphy that decorates itself around the building. The calligraphic characters give quotations about the

It will provide a platform to demonstrate and test the latest inventions from world's leading tech giants and start-ups, as well as collaborations between companies and leading research institutes and universities. The Museum also plans to hold scientific conferences and offer courses and workshops on design and innovation covering the latest scientific developments, trends and designs as well as their practical applications.

In addition to science and technology, the museum also focuses on society. The main focus is on how culture will change by the latest technology and its support in everyday life. El sistema inmunológico lucha contra la enfermedad y es controlado por neurotransmisores que están hechos y son liberados por el sistema nervioso. El sistema nervioso es de dos clases: simpático y parasimpático. Si alguien grita tu nombre cuando dormitas en la clase o en la iglesia, tú te pondrás súbitamente alerta, los vasos capilares se te constreñirán, las pupilas se te dilatarán y tu corazón palpitará más rápido. Esta es una reacción del sistema simpático. El sistema simpático está diseñado para prestar utilidad en períodos breves y no constantes. Si esto estuviera constantemente repitiéndose a alta velocidad, el resultado sería de efectos negativos, como ocurre bajo el estrés. OF SOUTH AMERICA By Laura Itzkowitz Every year, in the period between Christmas and mid-March, the population of Punta del Este, Uruguay swells from under 10,000 to around 400,000. About two hours up the coast from Montevideo, Punta -as the locals call it- has been dubbed the “Hamptons of South America” or the “Monaco of the South” because of the way it attracts wealthy Argentinians and Uruguayans, as well as international travelers from around the world. During the South American summer, tourists flock to the glittering beaches, dine at waterfront restaurants like Imarangatú, and embrace the art scene at places like Museo Taller de Casapueblo, a Gaudi-esque all-white confection the artist Carlos Paéz-Vilaró (who hobnobbed with Picasso) built in the 1960s on a stretch of pristine coastline. High-rollers come for the casino and the big hotels. In the high season, the marina is chock full of yachts.

But as Uruguay’s elite will tell you, there’s a lot more to see and do in Uruguay’s Maldonado department than just Punta del Este. The famed city on the sea may still be the most popular place to go, but the chicest crowd has largely decamped to José Ignacio, a boho beach town about 40 minutes east of Punta. Named for a lone fisherman, the sleepy fishing village was all but inaccessible until the ‘80s. Now it’s home to some of the most expensive real estate in South America. It was here that Argentina’s most famous and enigmatic chef Francis Mallmann ran a restaurant for 30 years before closing it and moving farther inland to the former ghost town of Garzón. Hotelier Alan Faena bought a piece of abandoned oceanfront land there in 1989 and turned it into a private oasis with a house and a rose garden.

TRAVEL & ADVENTURE These days, Punta del Este has become so built up with high-rise apartment buildings that it looks more like Miami Beach than the Hamptons or Monaco, but José Ignacio -where there are restrictions on how high you can build- still retains a Montauk-like charm. There, a house on the beach might cost anywhere from $2.5 million to $15 million. “When we first started coming here, it was a fraction of what it was. Now it’s become a very chic, global destination,” said Alex Vik, who runs three hotels in José Ignacio with his wife, Carrie. The couple, who have been visiting the area since the late ‘80s, bought their first beach house in La Barra, right next to Punta del Este, in 1999 and later sold it in order to purchase a property in José Ignacio. Though they originally intended to keep it as a private home, they had so many visitors that they decided to build bigger and open the property up to guests. Travelers who plan to visit Punta del Este should explore inland as well. In Garzón, you can spend a magical evening visiting the abandoned train station and dining at Francis Mallmann’s Restaurante Garzón, where a fire is always blazing in the back and a romantic, European atmosphere prevails. Bodega Garzón, the award-winning winery owned by billionaire Alejandro Bulgheroni, offers tours and tastings for casual visitors, as well as an exclusive membership club that—for a cool $250,000 -grants members access to the 18-hole Los Tajamares Golf Club, and the chance to blend wines at any of the 12 wineries owned by Bulgheroni.

Soon the estate will be home to a Relais & Châteaux hotel and spa, so guests will be able to stay on the vineyard. Bodega Garzón is also planning to open a beach club in José Ignacio near hotspot La Huella, a casual beachfront parador with an ultra-glamorous clientele.

But it’s the passionate people like the Viks, Mallmann, and Bulgheroni who give the region its edge and make it a must-visit destination for worldly jet-setters.

Like the Viks, Bulgheroni first bought a beach house in Punta del Este and branched out to Garzón later. “Uruguay is like the Switzerland of South America,” Christian Wylie, Bodega Garzón’s director said. It’s financially and politically stable, and is a haven for off-shore private banking, making it especially attractive to high net-worth individuals.

Uruguay is internationally recognized for breeding some of the finest and truly organic cattle in the world.
