LUXURY SHOPPING CENTERS AND MIXED-USE DEVELOPMENTS TREND

Since 2012, Houston has seen tremendous growth in its luxury sector with the opening of many developments that cater to affluent individuals. There is a clear trend towards mixed-use developments, which combine residential, commercial, and retail spaces in one convenient location.

One of the most notable is the River Oaks District, which since its opening in 2015 has brought to Houston the pleasures of an ultra-luxury shopping experience comparable to Rodeo Drive, by offering top names in fashion such as Dolce & Gabbana, Hermes, Harry Windston, Cartier, Dior, Van Cleef & Arpels, Rolex, Patek Philippe at De Boulle, Alice + Olivia, Zimmermann, Moreau, Canali, Assouline, and Vince, to name a few.

And when it comes to some of the finest cuisine and sweets, it’s worth mentioning Steak 48, MAD, Café Toulouse, Le Colonial, Loch Bar, Ouzo Bay, Bisou, Little Hen, The Tuck Room, Amorino, and the most recent addition almost ready to open, Bari Italian Restaurant. These in addition to the Grey House Apartments, office spaces, Epic -Houston’s most luxurious movie theatre experience-, and Equinox, a high-end fitness center.

The Heights, a historic neighborhood in Houston, has also seen a recent surge in development as well. New luxury apartment buildings like The Driscoll at River Oaks and The Susanne offer upscale amenities like rooftop lounges and resort-style swimming pools. The Heights is also home to a growing number of high-end restaurants and bars, including Better Luck Tomorrow.

In addition to these well-known neighborhoods, there are also several new developments underway that promise to bring luxury living to new heights in Houston. The Ivy Lofts is a high-rise residential building in the East End that will offer micro-unit apartments with high-end finishes and amenities like a rooftop pool and fitness center. The Houstonian Estates is a new gated community in the Memorial area that will offer luxury homes with private swimming pools and lush landscaping. Residences at The Allen is another spectacular mixed-use addition to Houston’s highrise ultra-luxury living, with apartments and penthouses above the 14-story Thompson Hotel reaching the $16 million bar.

CityCentre is another prime example of this trend. The development includes luxury apartments, office spaces, and retail stores such as Brahmin, Allen Edmonds, Nike, and Lululemon, among many others, as well as a variety of dining options ranging from casual to fine including names like Sal y Pimienta, The Capital Grille, Eddie V’s, Studio Movie Grill, RA Sushi, Brio, and Sweet Paris.

Another exciting mixed-use development is the Kirby Collection, located in the Upper Kirby neighborhood. This development features luxury apartments, office space, and high-end retail stores like Atelier Isabelle Rose and Tootsies. The Kirby Collection also includes a rooftop pool and lounge area, as well as a state-of-the-art fitness center.

Houston’s growth in luxury developments and upscale communities is a testament to the city’s vibrant economy and diverse population. As more and more people flock to the city for its high quality of life, developers are responding by creating luxurious and innovative living spaces that cater to the needs and desires of today’s discerning consumers.
