Martina La Vista architect

I am 27 years old Italian Architect, currently based in Milano. I studied Architecture in Politecnico di Milano and I specialized in Architecture and Interiors during the Master Degree. I had several opportunities to work and study abroad (Czech Republic, Portugal and Turkey) and I have two years of experience, working in different Architecture practices and as a freelance. I recently came back from Istanbul, where I was working as Architect, Concept Project Manager and Principal’s Assistant at Global Architecture Development practice: I loved my position but I have been forced to leave due to Turkey’s political situation; therefore I am looking for a job as an Architect and I am highly motivated to shape my career in an international and challenging environment. During the last two years I had the chance to face various project themes, such as urban design, architectural design, interiors, exhibition design, publications and graphic design, and stages, form concept design to shop drawings. Among those, the ones who have most attracted my attention are temporary architectures, museums installations and architecture for culture, with their technological deepening. These are the themes I hope will be the subject of my future work experience.

“Martina has successfully worked with us in every project stage: from conceptual research to preparation of shop drawings. She has been a very good and helpful team member. Her contribution and dedication to our mission were remarkable. We are grateful to Martina for her efforts during her work at GAD. The experience she has earned through her work at GAD has considerably improved her knowledge about working on international big-scaled projects. We wish her the same success in her future projects.” Gokhan Avcioglu Founder and Principal, GAD Architecture President, GAD Foundation “I had the chance to work with Martina for over a year. She is a very open minded, curious and real hardworking person. She has the ability to understand major problematics of a situation, quickly adapt herself and be an important asset for the success of the project. Every time she took a responsability, she owned it, with all its aspects, and leaded until the end. She also has a strong capacity of managing timelines, work schedules and organising team members in order to respect delivery deadlines. I can say whatever she does, she does with positive mind and smile, also in moments of crisis.” Emir Drahsan Senior Architect, GAD Architecture Vice President, GAD Foundation

“Her superior capability of understanding situations has provided her an essential position as a team member, both for design based and theoretical working environments. She doesn’t use design tools just for the sake of representation, also she foresees a way of thinking out through that process. She’s also capable of creating her own position with her interest in communications and her drift for sensitively constructed personal relations.” Busra Al, Architect and Founder Plug Ofis

“We met Martina thanks to the reference from my colleague Yüksel Demir (Assoc. Prof. Dr. at Istanbul Technical University) and her portfolio was explaining her already. Martina spent 3 months as an intern with us and in my opinion she did quite good during this period. Obviously, Martina is an architect that can enrich anywhere she works and has a bright future. I recommend you to take advantage of working with Martina.” Selçuk Avcı, Architect and Founder Avci Architects

“During the period that we worked together, Martina, adapted herself pretty quickly to different type of jobs. Taking responsibility and creating new alternatives quickly when things are not going in the right way were her primary skills. Apart from this, because of her positive energy everybody enjoyed to work with Martina.” Berrin Özdemir, Architect Avci Architects

Pendik Masterplan / Istanbul November 2015

Pendik Masterplan is a mixed use proposal for an area located in the asian side of Istanbul, close to the city’s second airport. The area is shaped as a valley which is cut in two by a major road and separates a dense residential low rise settlement from agricultural fields and the airport buffer zone. The project main function is residential, but also offices, hotel, retail and social and educational services are included. The aim of the project is in fact to create a neighborhood which, while interacting with the surrounding city, can also work as an autonomous organism. Connection between levels, circulation and life quality are the main focuses of the project, as well as preservation and implementation of green areas and wet areas.

Oasis Residences / Cairo July 2015

Oasis Residential Compound is a 300.000 m2 residential neighbourhood project in the new development area of 6th October, Cairo, Egypt. The entire project masterplan is based on the idea of permeability, for the enjoyment and feeling of community for the residents. Apartment blocks face semi-private courtyards, and then connect to larger green spaces. This central “oasis park is immediately visible from the main entrance, and acts as a shared space for the residents and their community. It is the key identity of OASIS, providing many benefits for its users. Aside from the obvious visual amenity and enjoyment of natural surroundings, residents can enjoy public facilities within the central park, such as small retail, cafes, prayer spaces, and recreational facilities.

Turkish airlines pavilion / Atlanta March 2016

THY Pavilion is a pre-concept project for a temporary structure to be installed in May 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia, to inaugurate the opening of a new direct flight route from Istanbul. Inspired by the company’s logo and branding strategy, we have been working of different options in a continuous evolution. Turkish Airlines logo is simple and, at the same time, effective, and immediately gives the feeling of lightness and speed which represents the company. Inspired by this, we worked on a sculptural flying wing made of tensioned fabric, which recalls the logo in color and shape. The wing works both as a canopy and as a projection surface and can be admired from multiple directions, creating different effects: in the middle of the day it will project the logo silhouette on the ground or can be captured by drones from the top. The strict time schedule forced us to choose a scaffold structure, to reduce the time and simplify the construction. In fact the wing is easily hung from a modular 1,5x1,5m scaffold which surrounds it from every side; this structure also supports on the ground level some platforms which are partially covered by the wing and can be used as sitting areas or shelves to distributes gadgets. The scaffold itself can be used in the night for 3D projection light shows. This solution is very sculptural and iconic, understandable even from distance. Lighting showroom / Istanbul

February 2016

Lighting showroom is a renovation project located in the heart of Istanbul, in a neighborhood which is famous for this type of trade. The client is an independent lighting company which sells prestigious brands’ fixtures; their aim is to build a new showroom which will give a unique image to their business. The existing run-down structure is inserted into the city center’s built curtain and borders with an historical building. The dominant and very prestigious position allows an almost 360 degrees view toward the Golden Horn and the historical peninsula. The showroom will have 7 floors, each of them with a construction area of around 40 m²: the first five will be dedicated to showroom, while the last two will be owner’s private house.

In this area regulations are very strict and, in order to avoid disputes with the municipality, we designed a clean glass faรงade which hides a surprise: a complex organic structure which shades the interiors from the sun and, at the same time, creates a perfect exhibitor for lighting fixtures, receiving and reflecting the light on its curves. The shape is a minimal surface and has been modeled in Mathematica and Rhino; it is thought to be realized in fiber concrete.

Third Airport VIP Termnal and State Guest House / Istanbul October 2015

Third Airport VIP Terminal and State Guest House is a pre-concept proposal for the third Istanbul Airport, which is currently under construction on the Black Sea cost. The two buildings, which are linked by a porch, work as filters between the public area and the airport runaway. The structure of the building is modular and the skin uses antique facade patterns to let the light in and, at the same time, protect the privacy of visitors.

Pinar Logistic Center / Istanbul April 2015

YaĹ&#x;ar Holding PÄąnar Logistic Center is located in the Esenyurt district of Istanbul, Turkey, and is designed to be a second-generation logistic centre with a total area of 25.633m2. The Center gathers management, offices, and storage departments under one roof. With an interactive design of these three departments, connection between all can be maintained at all times. The design distributes three main departments, management, offices, and storage, homogenously to each floor, without separating functional differences. PÄąnar Logistic Centre contains 3 levels of office spaces, separated from warehouse and vehicle zones, with inner courtyards increasing connection between offices and the environment. These courtyards allow natural light into the building and the advantages of a better work environment for employees.

Social Center Competition / Anamur December 2014

Anamur is a city famous for being Turkey’s southernmost point and for its bananas and peanuts production. Anamur municipality held a competition for the design of Social Center on the top of a small hill located between the city center and the mountains. The Social Center project aims to leave free the top and dig in the hill, opening the building to the best view, but, at the same time, shielding it from the sun. The main atrium, secured in the heart of the hill, becomes also a gate which gives access to the park and the city.

Commercial graphics / Pisano January 2014- January 2015

Between Jan 2014 and Jun 2015 I have been working as a freelance graphic designer for a new start-up project based in Istanbul called Pisano. Pisano provides a mobile customer engagement platform for hospitality, restaurants, retail, transportation, events and banking companies. In March 2015 I designed a concept for Pisano’s booth for ACE of MICE Istanbul fair, together with a flyers collection.

Teatro da Praia / Porto Master Thesis, April 2014

Teatro da Praia is a project about the conversion of an old power station in Porto, Portugal. The building is located on the Ocean seaside and keeps intact only the perimeter walls. The project idea aims to convert the structure into a theatre for prose and ballet shows. The old building is preserved and becomes a scenography for the interiors of the theatre. Different kinds of performance spaces are located around the beach and the park beyond, and connected to the principal building trough light beams, which remind his originary function.

Tutor: Prof. Yuksel Demir Collaborators: Juan Antonio Algora Assignments: concept, illustrations, diagrams

“Thinking the edge. Water and Culture is one week international workshop dealing with the re-thinking of a part of Istanbul city waterfront. WHY? This part of the project focuses on Karakoy district and its main issues, like difficult pedestrian circulation, missing sea view and urban meeting point. HOW? The proposed design should respect the existing site and users, who become the protagonists of this intervention. WHAT? The CITY LAB is both an architectonic and cultural intervention; its action spreads into the neighborhood and influence both the architectonic space both the users.
