Corey Breyon Walker Sr., born on February 25, 1989, in Hickory, North Carolina, grew up in Hickory, Lithonia, GA, and Charlotte, North Carolina. From an early age, Corey demonstrated a remarkable talent and passion for sports, which would become a defining feature of his life.
Corey attended Lithonia High School, where he made an immediate impact on the football field As a freshman, he lettered in football, showcasing his skills on both the junior varsity and varsity teams as an offensive lineman His athletic prowess extended beyond football; Corey was a dedicated track and field discus thrower and a key player as the Center for an AAU basketball team
After completing his high school journey at Hopewell High in Charlotte, Corey pursued his passion for football and athletics at the collegiate level He began his college career at Fort Scott Community College in Kansas, where he played JUCO football His talent and determination earned him a scholarship to Clark Atlanta University (CAU), where he continued to excel as an offensive lineman on the football team and as a discus thrower on the track and field team Corey's dedication to his studies was as impressive as his athletic achievements He successfully completed his Bachelor's degree in Mass Communications from CAU, demonstrating his commitment to both his academic and athletic pursuits
After college, Corey dedicated his life to serving others and pursuing his professional goals He worked for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools as a teacher and football coach at his alma mater, Hopewell High His passion for mentoring and guiding young athletes was evident in his coaching Corey also held assignments at prominent companies such as Wells Fargo, Coca-Cola, Amazon, and finally, Gordon Food Services
Most people knew that Corey's greatest passion was his family He cherished his wife, Tierannye, and his son, Corey Walker Jr (Deuce) He found immense joy in spending time with his loved ones and friends, always prioritizing those relationships above all else
Corey leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory: his wife, Tierannye Walker, and son, Corey Walker Jr (Deuce) (Fairburn, GA); his mother, Ursula Malone (Summerville, SC); his father, Clement Walker Jr. (Carlene Walker-Lithonia, GA); his brothers, Nigel Malone (Charlotte, NC), and Christopher Walker (Lithonia, GA). He is also survived by a host of Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, and friends who will forever hold him dear in their hearts.
Corey is preceded in death by his maternal fourth great-aunt Georgia Corpening, his grandmother Addie Louise Malone, his cousin Olutayo Babatunde, and his paternal grandfather Clement Walker Sr.
Corey loved everyone he came in contact with, always offering a compassionate and giving spirit. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back. Corey had a deep love for pizza and anything pizza-related, wore mismatched socks with pride, and was an avid fan of all things Marvel, Carolina Panthers and diehard Carolina Tarheels fan. He watched movies and series obsessively and always managed to offer a smile, even when he was feeling down.
Corey Breyon Walker Sr.'s legacy of love, strength, and generosity will continue to inspire and touch the lives of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the incredible impact he made on the world.
Perhaps you sent a lovely card, or sat quietly in a chair. Perhaps you sent those beautiful flowers, that we saw sitting there. Perhaps you spoke the kindest words, as any friend could say. Perhaps you were not there at all, just thought of us that day. Whatever you did to console our hearts we thank you so much for whatever part.
