Welcome
Welcome to the second edition of Dream Weddings the magazine. While the first edition was distributed exclusively through our Dream Weddings vendors and bridal shows in the region, I’m excited to report that this edition will be available on newsstands throughout Central Pennsylvania. I love weddings – in fact, they’ve become my passion! My involvement began eight years ago, through my association with The House of Clarendon, first as a student and now as its owner. Through designing cakes, I found myself advising brides on all aspects of their weddings. What I discovered is that brides are not aware of the talented professionals who live and work in their own backyards. In fact, the talented professionals I’ve worked with through the years inspired an idea – a wedding reality show for South Central Pennsylvania. Luckily, WGAL agreed to partner with us and I’m proud to say season three of Dream Weddings will begin airing in January. Because I am a visual person, it seemed only logical that my next step would be to produce a companion piece – namely a magazine – to the show and website. After all, it’s a long-held tradition that the first priority for an engaged woman is to buy a bridal magazine. And, as I’ve discovered, it’s difficult to buy only one! Over the past year, I’ve purchased dozens from around the world! There’s something very alluring about a magazine. Gorgeous photography, fabulous fashions and exciting trends prompt brides to dream of sentimental ceremonies and glitzy receptions. My idea was to provide a magazine that features our beautiful part of the world and the vendors who can help you fulfill your bridal fantasies. See you in your dreams …

CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA’S FIRST REALITY-WEDDING TV SHOW!
Dream Weddings Host and Executive Producer Martine Cajas dreamed of having his own TV show to showcase all of the fabulous wedding professionals in Central Pennsylvania. “So many people think you have to go to the big cities to have a first-class wedding. But, after years of designing wedding cakes and working as a wedding coordinator in this area, I knew we had some of the best and most creative wedding professionals anywhere!” Martine exclaims. After successfully pitching the idea to WGAL’s Nancy Tulli, it was time to find the right production team for the job. Martine had seen the work of Cinematographer Derek Dienner of Lavon Films and was impressed with the elegance of his work. The two quickly struck up a rapport. Derek suggested adding Writer/Director Tracy Schott to the creative team. Tracy was a bit reluctant at first. She just didn’t see herself doing reality TV, but she knew Derek’s work was beautiful and was inspired by Martine’s infectious enthusiasm for the project. The three partners created a pilot, which the sales team at WGAL loved, and Dream Weddings – the TV show – was born!
10
OPPOSITE PAGE: BOTTOM LEFT: Derek Dienner getting ready to shoot. BOTTOM RIGHT: Dr. Rita Tempel from
The “Dream Team” quickly expanded to include Editor Brad Bass and Composer/Audio Engineer John Wagoner. “Each person on the team has shown a real passion for this project. I feel so lucky to have this group of people supporting me. Not only are they talented, we all have so much fun working together!” reports Martine. Viewers get a sense of that fun during the bloopers segment that airs at the end of each show. Brad Bass came up with the idea while watching Martine try to say “two free rounds of golf” during Episode 7 of the first season. Dream Weddings fans responded so enthusiastically to the segment on the show’s Facebook page that it became a regular feature. This summer marked two years of Dream Weddings, with a third season currently in production and scheduled to air in January. What’s next for the show? “I’d love to take this to the next level and reach a national audience. I think that there are small towns all over America where brides and grooms are having dream weddings that reflect their location and culture. I’d love to take the Dream Team on the road!” says Martine.

Meaningful ceremonies always have a personal touch. Here are some aspects to consider in designing yours: Writing your own vows is not an easy task. However, when you write from the heart, you can’t go wrong. Sharing a poem or a song is a way to further involve loved ones in the ceremony. With blended familes be- coming the norm, involving your children and/or exchanging Family Vows during the ceremony is an option. Unique and newly resurrected traditions are being incorporated into modern-day ceremonies. Two of the more popular include ring warmings (prior to the ceremony, the rings are passed among guests so that they can offer a silent prayer/blessing over them) and handfastings (this is based on an old Celtic tradition in which the couple’s hands are tied to symbolize that they are bound to their vows and each other). As for music, it’s taking on a new tone, especially for the processional and recessional. Pop love songs have become the new standards. The most important thing to keep in mind is that it is your ceremony. As long as you include the legal sections, you can have anything you want! There really are no rules.
Reverend Kelly Jo Singleton is an ordained interfaith minister and wedding officiant. See the Directory for contact information.

What follows are some thoughts to consider when choosing an officiant: 1. In Pennsylvania, it is important to choose an officiant who is legally ordained, as some counties do not recognize those who have received ordination through online churches. Each county courthouse can provide you with its guidelines/regulations for ministers and others who perform wedding ceremonies. 2. Make sure the officiant is open to your spiritual views and that he or she is willing and able to create a ceremony that is fitting for you as a couple. 3. An officiant should be experienced and comfortable as a public speaker. Whether standing in front of just a few family members or hundreds of guests, a confident and personable officiant will be able to present your ceremony as it is intended. 4. The ability to remain calm under difficult situations (and sometimes with difficult people) is another quality to consider. A wedding can cause quite a bit of stress for families and situations do arise. Being able to count on your officiant to remain calm and in control could be a wedding-day saver.

frantic bride – her big day is just around the corner and she’s totally forgotten about the officiant! If you are not planning to have your ceremony at a place of worship and/or do not have clergy waiting in the wings to help you with the ceremony, then it is recommended that you find your officiant as soon as you have established a date, time and location for the ceremony.

bbbbbbbbbb bbbbbbbbbb bbbbbbbbbb Perfect Day bbbbbbbbbb “to do’s” “I do’s” bbbbbbbbbb bbbbbbbbbb bbbbbbbbbb bbbbbbbbbb B bbbbbbbbbb In today's world, the vast majority of brides and grooms have demanding full-time careers, making free time a precious commodity. Add a wedding – on average, 200-plus hours go into their planning and staging – and a bride will panic at the daunting task that awaits her. If you find yourself in such a position, you might want to consider the services of a wedding professional to make the process – and your big day – efficient, creative and stress-free.
After getting to know the engaged couple and their families – and their wedding hopes and dreams – a wedding professional tailors his or her services to best suit the very specific and unique needs of his or her clients. We will listen and help discover the “who” that you are as individuals and as a couple and how you wish this to be reflected. Your priorities – both what you want included and what you want to be eliminated – will be heard and honored. Essentially, a wedding professional serves as your guide, resource, advocate, support and sounding board. We are a wee bit of a fairy godmother. Ultimately, we’re a friend. We will guide you through the necessary process in bringing your wedding vision to reality, addressing the questions of how, what and when in a rational and productive order and carrying them out in a timely, organized and comprehensive manner. Every necessary element will be covered and nothing will be forgotten. This same expertise enables a wedding professional to assist you in creating and maintaining a responsible and realistic budget. We are familiar with the current and fair rates within the industry and will ultimately guide you in the wisest and most efficient allocation of your wedding dollars. A professional’s expertise and knowledge actually saves time, as he or she knows how to avoid mistakes and pitfalls. Selecting vendors is critical to the success of your wedding and a wedding professional will help you to understand the qualities you should seek in these experts as you make your choices. You will be given options, yet be kept on task while you assemble a unified and enthusiastic ‘dream team” for your big day. Securing the services of a wedding professional will ensure that all the details will be pulled together and all of the events scheduled for your wedding day will be brought together in perfect order and sequence. And, believe it or not, you will have an incredible amount of fun during this entire journey! Count on it!

The Japanese Garden at Lauxmont Farms in Wrightsville provided an inspiring setting for an outdoor wedding and reception, the design for which was conceptualized by Weddings by JDK. The designers at Weddings by JDK used this garden backdrop to develop a color scheme that epitomized spring, utilizing shades of pink, purple and fuschia. The setting also provided a “natural” Asian theme, with design elements ranging from bamboo accents that were used in creative ways – including table numbers, the framework for floral arrangements and the wind-chime-inspired escort card “table” – to the exotic orchids that were utilized throughout.
Details
24
The color scheme/theme of the wedding began with the bride’s bouquet of fuschia orchids, the stems of which were banded crystals. Tables were visions in purple, as they were layered with three styles of linens. The varying textures truly engaged the eye. The bamboo-backed, mahogany chiavari chairs reiterated the Asian theme. In addition, a sheer purple fabric flowed from the backs of the chairs. dream weddings | fall/winter 2012
The centerpiece on the table entailed bamboo caging that enveloped three cylindrical vases, which held an assortment of high-end orchids in shades of pink, and purple. Tabletop elements included flatware in a rope design (source: Event Central PA); purple-hued Champagne glasses; square, pink votives and Asian-inspired, white chargers, topped by translucent, lime-green dinner plates. The natural theme continued with placemats that flowed from under the chargers and down the table. The runner-inspired design was embellished with flowers and held the dinner menu. In addition to the menu cards, custom-designed table numbers, menu cards, place cards and chair signs complemented the theme (source: Persnickety Invitation Studio). The escort-card “table” was designed to resemble an Asian wind chime. The escort cards that were attached to the bamboo with purple ribbon resembled origami. The wind-chime design was further enhanced with unique glass elements that held orchid blossoms (source: Persnickety). Weddings by JDK: weddingsbyjdk.com dream weddings | fall/winter 2012

Invitations have evolved into a phenomenon that has a signature all its own – the weddingstationary suite! The cohesive elements of a suite include save-thedate cards, RSVP cards, reception cards, favors, programs, table-number cards, place cards, menus, thank-you notes and of course, the invitation. As you can see from the examples provided here, color graphics, art and a choice of paper can set the tone for your one-ofa-kind wedding!

Tying the Knot … The Finishing Touch for Suits and Tuxedos Ties are now playing an integral role in the fashion aspect of a wedding. Beyond serving as a finishing touch for suits or tuxedos, they can serve as the “tie-in” for the overall color scheme of the wedding. Silk is always the preferred fabric for a tie. For a classic look, choose a solid color or understated stripe that matches the attendants’ dresses. Or, if you’re looking to make a trendier statement, mix and match colors and patterns.
