Happy Autumn Dreamers! I am in love with this time of year. Not just for the cooler, comfortable weather but for the reminder that as the seasons change, there's always something to miss, something to look forward to and something to be thankful for NOW. Tis the season for wedding planning to start! Summer vacations are coming to an end, kids are back in school and football is grabbing a lot of attention once again. Use our planning guide and checklist to get yourself organized before you embark on the planning process. Then, really dissect each page of this magazine. Everything has value…the feature, styled inspiration, real weddings, ads, articles…all of it offers something to your process. For more vendors, tips and inspiration, visit us online at DreamWeddings.co This season, we shot our feature photo shoot at John Wright Restaurant, along the Susquehanna River in Wrightsville. We were thrilled when we partnered with them to bring you a feature that is full of gorgeous gowns from Blush Bridal in Lancaster, PA (Formerly The Bridal Emporium of Elizabethtown), paired with beautiful hair styles, jewelry and groom's
attire in all of the diverse settings of this amazing venue. You are sure to find a look (or two!) that inspire you in this contemporary atmosphere with breathtaking scenery as the backdrop. In addition to the feature, we shot the Urban Contemporary styled inspiration at John Wright Restaurant as well. The space so perfectly lent itself to that particular style but as always, we showcase how to use this season's pantone colors in multiple ways, bringing you various interpretations including Classic Romantic and Organic Ethereal inspiration. Each of our Styled Inspirations are a collaboration with different sets of vendors so you can see how they all translate the colors and what approach they take to inspire you by using them. Speaking of vendors, I've been asked a lot lately what the best approach is to booking local vendors for destination weddings or vice versa. I wanted to share that there really isn't a "best" approach to this. It's best to decide on vendors based on your style and their quality. Many vendors will travel (if they are able) so if you find someone close to home that you wish to bring with you on a destination wedding, do it! If you find vendors close to your destination, plan a FaceTime or Skype meeting to ask your questions and get to know them. You will obviously have to factor your budget into the decision making but remember that you get what you pay for and that your wedding is a culmination of your decision to be together forever. I address how to approach your budget in my tips on page 24 so make sure you check them out! Lastly, I want you to check out our new editorial style and read the article written by our senior editor, Megan, titled: "Should You Get Married?" This extremely open and honest approach to dis-
secting some deep issues and questions is something we are trying out because... are you ready for this...your wedding isn't the END. You've got a whole relationship ahead of you and we thought it was about time SOMEONE in the wedding industry talked about what happens after the vows are spoken and how difficult it can be to navigate a relationship for a generation that was raised to believe "Happily Ever After" was it. Read it. Let it sink in. And definitely give us your feedback, we'd love to hear it! There's something for everyone in this issue. As always, we try to speak to diverse styles, thought processes, approaches, etc. So find your dreams and GO for them!

Picture perfect skin for your wedding day
The Value of the Second Photographer One of the most popular questions to ask photographers nowadays is “Do you include a second photographer?” We live in a world where more is more, so it must be obvious, having two photographers HAS to be better than only having one, right? Although I personally usually work with a team of photographers on most wedding days, even we agree that not every wedding benefits from having two photographers. So how do you know if this is the right choice for your wedding day? Let me help you figure it out!
1. Think About Your Plan & Priorities for the Day Before you start your photographer search, think about what is most important to you on your wedding day. Is it important to you that you have getting ready photos of both you and your fiancé before the ceremony begins or guests enjoying your cocktail hour? When working as a solo photographer, it is impossible to be in multiple places at once. However, it isn’t impossible to be able to capture all of these things if the schedule is properly aligned. Is your wedding day preparation all happening at one location but in different suites? Will you be doing a first look so that you two will be able to be at cocktail hour? If the answer to both of these questions is a resounding “yes,” then one photographer will have no problem capturing all of the moments of your day as long as your schedule runs on-time. However, if you are getting ready at two different locations or are not doing a first look before your wedding, in order to capture wedding day prep for both of you or guest candids while you are having your portraits taken, having a second photographer provides you with more “insurance” that all will be photographed.
2. Think About Your Guest Count Although we have had the pleasure of shooting a fourteen person wedding with two photographers, if you are having an intimate family dinner or a non-traditional wedding just for your closest friends & family, you might only need one photographer. For smaller weddings or events that have a simplified timeline, one photographer is able to capture everything, most times. If you are having a wedding with a moderate to large guest list and capturing your friends & family celebrating is important to you, we suggest including a second photographer. Your primary photographer has to focus their attention on you so that you can relive every moment of your wedding day from your perspective. A second photographer is able to focus on capturing your guests, candid moments and different perspectives than your primary photographer.
3. Think About Your Budget Although the obvious choice may be to cut a second photographer if you are on a tight budget, that isn’t always the most cost effective or most valuable approach to take. Depending on the photographer you hire, it may be more cost effective to choose a collection with two photographers but a slightly shorter amount of coverage than it is to have one photographer running from one location to the next to capture all of your wedding day moments. With two photographers, you can both get ready simultaneously, saving about an hour of coverage on the earlier part of the day as well as the inconvenience of having to get one of you ready super early. Two photographers can break down the wedding party and work through family & friends photos with nearly double the efficiency, getting you and your guests to the cocktail hour just a little sooner. Two photographers will invariably capture more moments throughout the day and will result in more images of your memories. A wedding collection with two photographers is one of the most popular requests of modern couples and with good reason! Two photographers can be in two different places, chronicling your day and capturing the moments that you can’t see for yourself. But for the right couple, a one photographer option is a perfect fit. Take the time to talk with and understand how a photographer can cover your wedding day, whether as a solo shooter or with a team, before making your decisions.

If you describe your ideal wedding day style as “fairy-tale”, you’ll love this opulent interpretation of the season’s pantone colors. Draping and a lot of detail layering provide a swoon-worthy atmosphere that is sure to melt even the most unromantic person’s heart. Martine's TIPS
Your Wedding Budget, Mastered! People view budgets in one of two ways. They either think they’re extremely restrictive or extremely freeing. I personally love budgets because they allow me to relax, knowing what funds I have to work with for whatever I’m budgeting. In this edition of Tips, I’m going to dissect some common wedding budget issues and tell you how to avoid budget blunders! The average cost of a wedding in the United States in 2016 was $35,000.00. Regardless of the amount, there is a proper way to approach how you use your wedding funds. Too often, I talk with couples who forget to consider the big picture before making one or more of their wedding pur-
chases. By the time they figure out that they’ve used too much in one area to have enough for everything, it's too late and they aren’t left with the ability to really style their celebration and make it a unique affair.
Nothing makes me more sad than when a couple tells me that they used half of their budget to book their venue and that particular one is basically 4 walls…no food, beverage, linens, lighting, flowers or anything! This is totally fine if you are still left with ENOUGH funds to book the average 15 remaining vendors for your Dream Wedding. I can’t tell you what your budget should be or what percentage of your overall funds you should allocate for each category. What I can do is educate you about the average cost of essential wedding vendors so that you’re not surprised when you begin reaching out for pricing and YOU are empowered to effectively manage your wedding budget.
Bring It Together In summary, follow these 4 simple steps before you use any part of your wedding budget. First, get an idea of your total guest count. Second, decide on your total budget amount, based on the number of people you'll have attending and what type of venues accommodate parties your size. Also, consider that you may have funds coming from different sources: yourselves, parents, grandparents, etc. Third, decide which vendors you need
to have for your Dream Wedding and prioritize by importance from your own perspective. Fourth and lastly, based on your guest count, allocate funds to each vendor or category you need to book. Use the list of average prices per vendor to get a feel for what you can afford. Also remember, the more elaborate your theme, the more expensive it will be to style it! Be realistic and don't forget...you get what you pay for!

Wedding Vendor Average Costs There are ranges for everything. It's just like buying a car: The better the quality and more accessories, the more the car will cost. oft and whimsical or bold and deep, this season’s pantone colors can be intermixed no matter what mood you’re trying to convey in your wedding styling. Want a neutral, light and romantic affair? Go heavier on the Hazelnut or pale dogwood. Want rich, opulent and striking designs? Add more layers of Tawny Port or Kale. They all pair beautifully so use all 4 colors for a balanced and interesting feel, whether you’re planning a wedding in the coming months or a year from now. Pantone’s forecasted colors are fantastic inspiration and just because you may be planning a future wedding, doesn’t mean you can’t use the chosen colors of now. photography ASHLEY GERRITY PHOTOGRAPHY To find out more information and see more work from the vendors pictured above, check out our feature and styled inspiration pages in this issue!

Wedding Day Photos. Everything you plan and
every decision you make is ultimately driven by the question: “How will this look in the photos?” Obviously your own look (Dress, hair style, skin, etc.) holds the most weight. You want to look back on your wedding photos and fall in love with them every single time. You want to feel like you looked your very best.
1
Powder Application Puff
If your powder doesn’t come with a little puff, this is something you’ll want to have to be able to powder your face. Rather than rubbing or sweeping, gently press across the skin to keep makeup looking fresh.

Blotting Papers
These are great for quick & gentle shine touch ups and they’re super easy to use during the wedding day. You can get these at most drug stores and they come in easy to store packs.
So we sat down with Maggie King from Mkup the Beauty Studio to find out what she recommends you keep close-by to ensure you look your best throughout the entire day and are prepared for any beauty issues that may arise.
▶▶▶▶▶▶▶
PRO TIP!
3▶▶▶▶▶ Translucent Powder
I’m pretty particular about which powders I use on clients. My go-to is KETT Sett Powder and Givenchy Prism Libre. These powders can be used on every skin tone and they’re wonderful for both setting the foundation & touch ups.
Avoid powders with SPF in them. They can sometimes be too reflective and you end up with flashback in your photos!
4
Tissue & Q-tips
Obvious necessities, these are great to have in your touch up bag for happy tears.
BEAUTY MUST-HAVES! with Maggie King of Makeup The Beauty Studio
▶▶▶▶▶▶
“R
eally, you could go crazy here but you don’t have to. It’s just always good to be prepared. So I suggest that all of my brides (and anyone else interested in maintaining their look throughout the day) carry these essentials or keep them close-by and easily accessible.”
7 5
Lips
Rather than wearing only lipstick, use lip liner all over the lip and a lip stain for staying power and minimal touch-ups!
6
Bobby Pins & Clear Hair Ties
You probably already know why these are important to have. Trust me, you’ll be thankful they’re onhand if a curl comes loose!
Lash Adhesive/Glue
Your makeup artist will apply your false lashes during your bridal application but it’s definitely smart to keep extra glue on-hand in the event that part or all of your lashes peel or fall off. If others in your wedding party want to touch up their lashes, make sure to have disposables for hygiene reasons.
8
Compact Mirror
This is must in any bride’s beauty touch up bag. You can always check to make sure you look great. Bonus points for a cute or personalized mirror and score! Include them in your bridesmaids gifts.

SHOULD YOU GET MARRIED? Real questions to ask before you walk down the aisle. ait …what?! I’m in the middle of planning my wedding and BAM! You slap me with this question?!” Yep. Because we care. Dream Weddings is about so much more than having the most glorious, fairytale affair you were raised to believe is the culmination of your life. We want to challenge your thinking and belief so that you, when you do have your Cinderella Dream Wedding that you’ve been planning since you were 5, are having it for the right reasons. So let’s get into this, shall we? Whenever something has a 50% success rate, paired with an equal likelihood of hurting you in some way, you question its worthwhileness. As you absolutely should! For example: If 50% of all air planes that flew anywhere crashed, you’d likely figure out a different means to make it to your destination! Although for some reason, we (as a society) don’t question this when it comes to marriage. Even though the statistic is, and has been for some time, that somewhere between 45-60% of all marriages in the United States end in divorce. Not the “glad we tried this but we’re better as friends” kind of divorce. No, much more like the, “I expected this to be Happily Ever After and surprisingly, you weren’t perfect so now I’m going to find ways to gut you, spit on you and ultimately ruin you in every way possible before I leave” kind of divorce. So what are we doing people?! Take a step back. You owe it to yourself and to whomever you think you’re going to share any part of your journey with to ask some seriously real questions. Not only that, but you also
need to be sure to create a space where you and your potential future partner can truly be honest with each other. The intention is not to hurt one another. The intention is to be kind through opening up. We’re so used to projecting in our society. Projecting our feelings (making someone else responsible for them), projecting an image of our life (how dare we not be living the dream every. single. day.) Hello annoying Facebook posts! “Why is everyone’s life but mine so perfect all the time?!” News flash… it’s not! And the people who are truly getting the most out of life are the ones who realize that they must stop projecting and start looking inward.
“The people who are truly getting the most out of this life are the ones who realize they must stop projecting and start looking inward.” So what are some questions you can ask yourself as well as your partner to begin exploring whether or not this getting married is the RIGHT thing for you? Here you go: Question 1: Do you believe that you are capable of 100% fulfilling every one of your partner’s needs or desires for the rest of your
lives? Thought point: The real question here is: “Is ANYONE capable of this?” Think of all of your relationships, romantic or not. Does each one of those relationships bring something unique and valuable to your life? Will you be free and encouraged by your partner to not only retain those relationships but also explore new ones to see what kind of connections and value you can both give to and receive from others after you are married?
Question 3: Who is responsible for your happiness? Thought point: The most common assumption is that marriage is a means to happiness. Otherwise, why would we be so eager to do it? We think that the false sense of security that the ring and license provide us will help us to more freely move through life, attaining happier experiences. But in reality, it’s the exact opposite. It ends up being restrictive because we begin exercising possessiveness since a piece of paper now tells us: “This person is MINE.” Hold up! Understand that you never OWN anything or anyone. You might not wake up tomorrow and then what? What did you ever truly HAVE? Once you realize that you never really have or own anything and this journey is so much more about soaking up the moment-to-moment experience of living, you can only come to the conclusion that feeling happy (or having any emotion really) is entirely YOUR
choice. It is not your partner’s responsibility to make you feel any way through his or her actions or words. It’s YOUR responsibility to have the experience you want to have while you’re alive. So YOU choose your happiness, your grief, your worry, your path…ALL OF IT. Here’s the thing (and I’ll leave you with this): By now, you can probably get a sense that the person writing this isn’t naive or inexperienced. I’m not. I’ve personally been married for 8 years. Those years have been the messiest, sweetest, hardest, loveliest years of my life. If I had to sum up those years in one word, I would confidently use the word “CHALLENGING”. But out of the challenge, I’ve grown into a much better version of myself than I was prior. I’ve learned to embrace the difficult, savor the sweet and be grateful for all of it. Not perfectly of course, the learning never ends in this life. But if I can offer you some perspective from my own journey, it’s almost like I’m allowing you to time travel. Trust me when I say this: Open up NOW. Have the conversations NOW. Allow complete honesty NOW and should you still choose to get married, you’ll be starting off in a better spot than those who are too afraid to be real. dream weddings | fall 2017

Question 2: Do you have real love for your partner or is what you have attraction, lust or excitement? Thought point: This question is not to make you feel guilty or scared. Attraction, lust and excitement are equally important parts of the human experience and it’s OKAY to enjoy them. But love…REAL LOVE is a totally different thing. It’s not possessive, jealous or restrictive. It’s free of resentment, trusting, confident, expanding. This means that if what you have is real love, you should only want experiences for your partner that will help him or her to grow and get their most out of their experience…even if that means you’re not included in all of those experiences.
