Welcome
Fall is a gorgeous time of the year, which is probably one of the reasons why it has become the season to get married in South Central Pennsylvania. With that said, I’d advise you to get started on your “to-do” list sooner rather than later if you’re entertaining thoughts of a fall wedding. Venues and vendors book early. You can start by perusing the Wedding Professionals Directory in the back of the magazine, which has contact information for some amazing bridal professionals.
Fall and winter are also a hugely popular time for couples to become engaged. Again, the holiday season provides the perfect time for guys to propose. Choosing the ring and creatively slipping it on her finger puts the spotlight squarely on the future groom! In choosing the ring, get input from your intended, her sister, mother and BFF. It’s the most important piece of jewelry you’ll buy for your wife. Fortunately, South Central Pennsylvania is home to some phenomenal jewelry stores whose owners can provide advice, guidance and even help you to design a custom piece, should you desire to go in that direction. As for the proposal, get creative. Invite a photographer or videographer to record the event. Invite both sets of parents to join you for dinner immediately after you’ve popped the question. Plan and host an engagement party for friends and family. (In some Asian cultures, a bride-to-be does not wear her ring until after the engagement party.) The party could also provide you with a way to festively announce your attendants and groomsmen. Once you’re engaged, a woman’s mission is to find the dress. Granted, you’ve been dreaming of it since you were a little girl, but now reality takes over. It’s the most important dress you will ever wear. Talk about pressure! While you may be tempted to shop with an entourage – as is often seen on that other reality show – I love the idea of sharing the experience with your mother. After all, she will always be your sounding board and will want what’s best for her little girl. What’s in vogue? The possibilities abound, which is why you need Mom! Lace is still huge. Fitted gowns are trending high. Tea-length echoes the mania for vintage. Back treatments are making style statements. Changing into a different dress for the reception is gaining converts. And, color is being embraced. Wearing a white wedding gown is not required: last year’s runway shows were awash in color that ranged from barely there to bold. If you’re set on white, add color through jewelry or shoes.

Central Pennsylvania’s First Wedding-Reality TV Show
or years, Dream Weddings Host and Executive Producer Martine Cajas dreamed of having his own TV show to showcase all of the fabulous wedding professionals in Central Pennsylvania. “So many people think you have to go to the big cities to have a first-class wedding. But, after years of designing wedding cakes and working as a wedding coordinator in this area, I knew we had some of the best and most creative wedding professionals anywhere!” Martine exclaims.
Emily Gladden, Chelsea Gebhart and Susan Black. “Each person on the team has shown a real passion for this project. I feel so lucky to have this group of people supporting me. Not only are they talented, we all have so much fun working together!” reports Martine.
The Emmy-nominated show is now in production of its fourth season. After spending most of the last two seasons highlighting weddings in York, Harrisburg, Gettysburg and After successfully pitching the idea to WGAL’s Nancy Tulli, Hershey, Dream Weddings returns to Lancaster County to highit was time to find the right production team for the job. The two quickly struck up a rapport. Derek suggested adding Writer/Director Tracy Schott to the Viewers will welcome the return of some favorite elements in creative team. The three partners created a pilot, which the the show: behind the scenes production meetings, design upsales team at WGAL loved, and Dream Weddings – the TV show grades and of course…bloopers. One thing that won’t change is our belief in the professionals who live and work in South Central Pennsylvania. Their work and creativity are what drive the premise of the show. Still, there’s always the allure of going bigger. “I’d love to take this to the next level and reach a national audience,” says Martine. “I think that there are small towns all over America where brides and grooms are having dream weddings that reflect their location and culture. I’d love to take the Dream Team on the road!”
we’re looking for you...

The LANGUAGE of FLOWERS
Katy Trefry Photography
R
oyal watchers were very taken by Kate Middleton’s simple and natural bridal bouquet. However, if you speak the “language of flowers,” the bouquet was overflowing with sentiment as she included Sweet William (gallantry), Lily of the Valley (happiness) and Hyacinth (constancy of love) as a floral tribute to her groom. It also contained stems from a myrtle that was planted by Queen Victoria in 1845, as well as ivy, which symbolizes fidelity. The Language of Flowers came into vogue during the Victorian era, when public displays of affection were frowned upon. Instead, romantic notions were conveyed through flowers.
BOUQUET:
Laura of Lauxmont
RING:
Futer Brothers
Consider the bouquet seen here. Created by Laura of Lauxmont, it is composed of Garden Roses, Ranunculus, Sweet Peas, Jasmine Vine and Viburnum. Lotus pods, succulents and Israeli ruscus provide texture and autumnal notes. Roses, of course, symbolize love. The Ranunculus (a member of the buttercup family) conveys the sentiment, “I am dazzled by your charms!” Viburnum conveys a feeling of deep attachment. Jasmine equates to sensuality (its scent is especially potent at night!). Sweet peas are representative of blissful pleasure.

PRIOR TO 1840, brides wore colorful gowns. Queen Victoria created a trend by wearing white. It was her desire to have the satin fabric of her gown match the color of the intricate lace that would embellish it. The white gown became a status symbol across Europe. Fast forward to the 21st century. Hollywood royalty such as Anne Hathaway, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Reese

Witherspoon and Jessica Biel have all been hailed as trend setters for having selected various shades of pink for their wedding gowns. Last year’s runway shows were awash in colors such as blush, champagne, smoke, gold, silver and red. And, color can be meaningful where weddings are concerned: red signifies luck; white is synonymous with purity; green

ENGAGING PHOTOS KATY TREFRY PHOTOGRAPhY Like everything connected to modern-day weddings, the engagement photo provides yet another, all-important personal touch. Couples are devoting a lot of thought to ways in which they can make their photography sessions creative and personal. High-school and college sweethearts are revisiting the campuses where they first fell in love. Sports lovers are posing in their favorite stadiums. Nature lovers are using the great outdoors as a backdrop. Animal lovers are including their pets. The possibilities are endless. Such a photo session enables an engaged couple to work with their photographer (and perhaps hair stylist and makeup artist) before the big day. On the flip side, the photographer can use the opportunity to become better acquainted with his or her clients. As for their versatility, the photos can be given to parents and family members as gifts. They can be used for a newspaper announcement of your engagement. They can enliven your wedding-countdown website or Social Media site. Use them to make a visual impact on Save-the Date announcements. Finally, enlargements can be used at the reception venue to welcome guests to the party.

Both are from State College. Alexandra is a medical social worker; Josh is a senior software engineer at CollegeBoard in Reston, VA. Despite attending the same high school, they actually met in college – a freshman seminar class at Penn State University – where they worked together on a group project. After spending a lot of time together with mutual friends, their first “real date” was going to see the movie 50 First Dates. Josh completely surprised Alexandra by taking her for a walk in a park that’s located near his parents’ house; he simply and sweetly got down on one knee. Romantic/ bohemian glam – “hippie chic” was the phrase they used during planning. The design employed lots of lace, candles, eclectic floral

Covered in ivory buttercream, the cake included champagne-hued, floral lace-like details. John Legend’s Stay with You. Hometowns:
Briana is from Hummelstown; Seth is from Harrisburg. Briana is a freelance designer; Seth owns a carpet-cleaning business. The couple’s parents had not seen each other for 30 years; when they ran into each other, they vowed to reunite childhood friends, Briana and Seth. Seth took Briana to see his father’s band (2nd Chance Band) play at a local bar. A hike took them to a tree in which Seth had carved their initials way back when. He then got down on one knee and proposed. A DIY, woodland theme that went in a magical, Hollywoodglam direction. Emerald green, which was accented by other shades of green, as well as silver and gold. Briana collected brooches from their mothers and grandmothers;

she also shopped flea markets. She used her finds to create an organza-and-brooch bouquet. Tables were topped with milk-glass vases that were filled with wildflowers, hydrangea, curly willow and silver-dollar plants. Topped with a mossy letter “R,” the couple’s French-vanilla cake featured espresso-cream filling and caramel butter-cream frosting. Guests could choose from the selection of cupcakes that were wrapped in green and topped with gold-and-silver-foil birds and butterflies. 2nd Chance Band played a cover of Bless the Broken Road by Rascal Flatts. Briana and Seth always joked that they could marry each other tomorrow. So, Briana’s favorite moment was arriving by Seth’s side and whispering in his ear, “It’s tomorrow!” Three weeks in Europe.

May 25, 2013
Hometowns:
Lauren is from Mount Joy; Matt is from Gaithersburg, MD. Lauren is a mental-health counselor and Matt is a systems integrator. A mutual friend introduced them: Lauren was in college in the Baltimore area and Matt was on leave from the military, visiting his family in the DC metro area. They dated long distance for nearly two years before Matt moved back to Maryland. A movie night where Matt chose to watch American Psycho (Lauren loathes horror movies). Matt proposed at a beautiful park near their home. It was at sunset and they were sipping Champagne. He surprised her with a vintage diamondand-sapphire ring. Vintage garden party. She spent months collecting vintage milk glass for the reception tables. Simple, rustic cake with floral details. The flavors were coconut cake with raspberrybuttercream filling and vanilla cake with honey cream-cheese filling. Fresh flowers decorated the cakes. God Only Knows by The Beach Boys.
