Central Pennsylvania’s First Wedding-Reality TV Show Begins Season 5!

Frank King Photography

Central Pennsylvania’s first reality TV show, Emmy nominated Dream Weddings, is airing its fifth season of spectacular weddings. What began as a dream for host Martine Cajas more than five years ago has turned into a source of dreams for brides all over Central Pennsylvania.

Viewers will welcome the return of some favorite elements in the show: behind the scenes production meetings, design upgrades and of course… bloopers. Martine is getting so comfortable on camera that the production team sometimes fear that he’s going to become a one-take wonder…. then his Spanglish takes over and the whole production team is cracking up! Dream Weddings continues to evolve and will unveil some new surprises this season…but you’ll have to tune in to see for yourself! Check WGAL’s listings for exact times and dates. One thing that won’t change is our belief in the professionals who live and work in South Central Pennsylvania. Their work and creativity is what drives the premise of the show.

Martine's Katy Trefry Photography

MUS I N G S

ONCE UPON A TIME, June was the month to get married. Our mothers and grandmothers dreamed of becoming June brides. Yes, June is a lovely month, but part of its popularity was more than likely industry-driven. Think about it. During the 50s and early 60s, air conditioning was still a luxury, which meant bakers worried how their cakes would “weather” the heat and humidity. It was also an era in which florists were relegated to using flowers that were in season. So, June became the month that offered the best scenario for a dream wedding. One bride dared to break the rule in that era: Jacqueline Bouvier married Senator John F. Kennedy on a gorgeous day in mid-September, 1953. The event didn’t look like a fall wedding, but instead harkened to spring. Jackie’s ivory taffeta ball gown was enhanced by a cathedral-length veil that was held in place by a tiara made of orange blossoms. The bouquet she carried was composed of pink gardenias and white orchids. Her bridesmaids wore pink.

Jackie, of course, was always a style setter, but who knew that 60 years later, her out-of-season spring wedding would be a trend that today’s brides are embracing. We’re seeing winter-themed weddings in the heat of summer, and spring-themed weddings in the dead of winter. Fall, however, has become everyone’s favorite season to get married in South Central Pennsylvania. Blue skies, incredible colors in nature and being with the ones we love make for memorable weddings. With that said, let’s talk about color. You don’t have to confine your color scheme to the oranges and yellows that define fall. It’s your wedding. You can use any color you want. For example, would you believe pink has become a fall color? No, not the dainty or hot hues we associate with spring and summer, but a shade that pairs well with earthy tones such as marsala, olive green and ochre. And, you’re probably thinking that your décor will have to revolve around pumpkins, gourds, hay bales and mums. Rest assured, you can forget about all that. April in October is very doable. However, if you love pumpkins and gourds, go for it. Thanks to the heirloom varieties that are being grown, you now have color options. And floral designers are working their magic to transform lowly pumpkins into something befitting Cinderella with paint, diamond dust and ribbon. And, speaking of florists, they now have access to the world. If you want tulips in the fall or roses in winter, they can make it happen.

What’s in vogue as you contemplate a fall wedding? Gowns provided by Lilla’s Bridal Boutique exemplify today’s trends: lace, back treatments and ivory/champagne tones. Cathedral-length veils are providing the wow factor. Headpieces are huge. Bouquets are organic. As for venues, barns remain popular. See you in your dreams …

M MONICA and ADAM

Wrightsville, PA July 19, 2014

Hometowns:

Monica and Adam are originally from Wyalusing, PA. They currently reside in Lemoyne, PA. Monica is a graduate of Widener University School of Law. She is planning a future career in estate and equine law. Adam is an Architectural Engineer. Monica volunteered at a retirement center where her mother worked. Adam’s grandparents moved into the retirement center and Monica’s mother and Adam’s grandmother quickly became friends. Monica met their grandson, Adam, at the age of 14. They attended different high schools in the area. They began dating one summer when they were both home from college and started dating again after college. They shared their first date at Twigs Café in Tunkhannock, PA. He proposed at Twig’s Café. They always seemed to be seated at this tiny, secluded table, so it became “their table.” They stopped there for dinner one evening in June. Just as Monica sat down at their special table, Adam got down on one knee. Rustic, country chic. Vintage furniture and whiskey barrels with horseshoes holding down the place cards. Shades of grey, pale pink and antique gold. Peonies, hydrangeas, ranunculus and anemones. Elements of gold and silver on a three-tiered cake with light pink, peach and white garden roses cascading along with Dusty Miller, fern and succulent accents. Just One Kiss by Raphael Saadiq. Seeing each other for the first time and pulling into the reception in the ’69 Camaro Adam restored. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
