Hello! I hope you had a great summer and enjoyed yourself at the beach or by the pool. Now that it’s about to cool down, it’s time to begin the planning for your wedding. Don’t let the upcoming presidential election halt your process! The last thing you want is to procrastinate and run out of time, so get organized and go! We include a planning guide and vendor directory in every issue. Utilize these as your checklists for what to do and who to call. When you’re ready to begin, your next step should be hiring a planner and designer that can help formulate your budget and your expectations for how to use it. After that is determined, your planner will tell you the next step is to choose a venue so that you can finalize the date. With these essential pieces in-place, you can now begin the fun part…styling! Let’s talk about the current trend that many associate with Restoration Hardware or West Elm, which combines contrasting materials for a beautiful industri-

al look. This was the inspiration behind our issue feature, shot at the amazing Ballroom on the Square dance studio, with gowns and accessories from Cocoa Couture. The urban yet elegant feel of the ballroom was the perfect backdrop for the combination material dresses we used. The bling on the bodice, fluff on the train, marks on the floor from couples learning to move together and abundance of natural light allowed us to show how layering all sorts of elements can help you create a mood that elicits feelings of romance, rawness and beauty. And because not any one dress is every girl’s dream gown, we featured a plethora of different styles. Fluffy and romantic or fitted, lacy nudes, there’s truly something to suit any bride’s taste in our feature. So what about utilizing this look at your venue? Combining bling, iron and velvet tufted chairs to the organic wood background of a barn can help you achieve the industrial look while taking advantage of the abundant barn venues in our local area. I mean, I think we can all agree that the barns are gorgeous but we’re a little over the burlap and mason jars in the styling! You may be planning a fall wedding right now or you may be planning a warm weather wedding for next year. No matter when you’re planning for, remember to select flowers and elements that are in-season at the time of your wedding but don’t necessarily stick to the standard, seasonal staples. If you are planning a fall wedding, it doesn’t mean your guests need to see pumpkins, leaves and wheat bouquets. Yes, fall is associated with harvest but so many things can portray the boun-

ty of autumn – apples, grapes, artichokes, cabbage or even other vegetables could lend themselves beautifully to this theme. Your designer can give you suggestions on what things work well together and we tried to give you some ideas on how to incorporate these elements in this issue’s styled inspiration. TO PLANNER OR NOT TO PLANNER You’re in love and excited to get married so fully enjoying your wedding day seems like it would be an easy trick but unfortunately, some couples don’t tap into the available resources that will allow for this. Designing and planning your day involves making big decisions as well as planning minute details. Forget even one of those details and you can spend your day troubleshooting a problem rather than soaking in each lovely moment. So how can you trust someone enough to relinquish control of the day you’ve been planning forever? We sat down with Dana from Dana M. McGinley Events & Design to understand just that. “My approach isn’t to take control from the couple, it’s to utilize my experience, knowledge and resources to actualize the day they’ve been dreaming about. I meet with all of my clients in person to ensure we will be a good fit for each other before I commit to planning or designing their day. Some couples simply want to give me high-level inspiration and see what I design from it. Others want to show me a specific bouquet or Tablescape so that I can source the vendors or materials that will produce that exact design. No matter what, the couple is always in control. During the entire planning process, I become a couple’s sounding board. I listen to their wants and needs and offer advice or recommendations to help them achieve a cohesive look for their day. My goal is to create an enjoyable process that saves valuable time for the couple. That time can be spent enjoying each other and their party!” Ultimately, Dana ensures that she understands her couples’ level of desire to be involved when they initially meet so that she can ensure that they are comfortable with her approach to designing, planning and coordinating their wedding.

No doubt you’re feeling the pressure and you truly want to uphold your sacred duties to the bride. A big part of how she will look back on the experience with you by her side is of course determined by how successfully you pull off the bridal shower. So how do you plan and execute the perfect little party? Don’t worry! We have you covered. First and foremost, leave your pride at the door. This season of life is all about her. There’s a reason she chose you to be the one right next to her on the big day…you’re her bestie! And as such, she trusts that you’ll put her tastes and preferences before your own when planning the prenuptial celebration.

Our first tip is that you weren’t meant to do this alone. Professionals exist for a reason – hire them and let them do what they do best! Designers, caterers, florists…who says they’re just for the wedding?! They are skilled at pulling necessary elements together for all types of events. Use them and make yourself look good. Make sure you book a professional photographer so the bride gets a sweet reminder of everything you did for her whenever she looks at the photos. Try to incorporate decorations and style that are common with the wedding so each event is cohesive. However, don’t be afraid to also use other elements that the bride loves but maybe couldn’t include in her wedding theme. - continued on page 32

A wedding can be the most exciting time in a bride’s life but it can also become overwhelming rather quickly! With so much to accomplish before your dream day, it’s easy to panic over everything on your to-do list. Whether you’re planning your wedding in one month or over two years, let us help take the stress out of the planning process.
