Some Things to Remember When You Interview a Daily Nanny By Betty Gale “Buttons Nanny Agency” with Nanny Agencies based in London and Surrey The candidates normally bring their portfolio and ID along with their interview. You should ensure that you inspect their ID to include their passport and driving license, childcare certificates, Ofsted registration, pediatric first aid certificate, and DBS or CRB Disclosure. The candidate may bring along open references or testimonials for you to view.

Here are some sample interview questions that would need to be tailored to suit your particular nanny role and the ages of your children. The questions listed below are intended as a guide to interviewing a nanny            

Are you familiar with this area and the local facilities? How long will it take you to travel here in the morning? What age range of children have you looked after? Why did you leave your last job? How would you organize a typical day? How would you organize a typical day What are you looking for in your next position? What do you enjoy about looking after babies/toddlers/school age children? How would you entertain the children? What outside activities would you suggest for indoors and out? How would you encourage the children’s development Do you swim? Can you menu plan and give examples of meals that you could cook for the children?

      

How do you deal with weaning/crawling/table manners/potty training/talking/reading/writing/homework? What are your views on discipline? How would you react to the following medical emergencies: burns/choking/falls/cuts/fever/vomiting? What household tasks are you prepared to undertake? Are you happy to baby-sit during week/weekends if so what are your rates? Do you normally run a daily diary or nanny log? What experience do you have of baby weaning.

It is important the chemistry is right and normally you can feel quite early on in the interview if you feel comfortable with each other and have similar views. Choose a candidate that has worked with a similar age range before, and someone who lives reasonably nearby.

When you have found a candidate that seems a really good match its best to invite them back for a second interview to meet the children so that you can meet them again more informally and it’s a chance to ask any other questions and see how they interact with the children. Sometimes the nanny candidate will bring along a little activity that is age appropriate for the children. Also remember to speak to previous nanny employers who are providing references and make a list of questions before you contact them. Good Nanny Agencies such as “Buttons Nanny Agency” will have checked the candidate's references, but it’s always good to check them yourself, for ‘peace of mind ‘and so that you can ask any relevant questions. Our Nanny Agencies in Surrey and London will be available to help our families through each stage of the recruitment process making the selection an easy process. http://buttonsnannyagency.com/
