This visual essay examines the camps, the resorts, the private cabins, and the small towns that comprise Wisconsin's Northwoods. The 19th century was a time of extraction through trapping and logging, but then in the first half of the 20th century the area developed into a recreational center and became the ideal vacation spot for many residents of Wisconsin. History has a tenuous hold in the Northwoods, and I am especially interested in how institutions tie themselves to the past and imagine the history of the region.
