GASICOGNE ESTATE. 2013
Overcrowding is currently a major problem faced in the estate.
Demolishing the estate which has started will help to regenerate the area as well as provide ‘effecient use of space’
Many tenants are being rehoused in housing located on the outskirts of barking
Many problems for parents dropping children off to school due to ineffecient transport links
Many amenities will be provided in close proximity to the estate as a result of feedback from tenants
Most tenants are awaiting news as to whether they will recieve housing after the development. It is already confirmed that 65% will not.
The Gasicogne estate is due for demolish ending in 2016. Regeneration will be in the process soon after which will create 20,000 homes for working people and families. This will mean that many of the tenants in the estate would be unable to recieve a home from this project. Those few who will, are likely to consequently become the subject of increased rents and house prices resulting in an ever-escapable cycle of poverty in the estate whether or not the regeneration takes place. One thing that will become for sure, is the inevitable social //////divide.
