Soli A man of many trades, How to handle Fatherhood, business & giving back
By Dina Morrone
From childhood actor in the classic movie Lassie to criminal lawyer, restaurateur, and philanthropist, Peter Soli has kept busy living a very exciting and varied life. Within minutes of engaging in conversation with Soli, one can immediately feel from his warm inviting smile that he is a caring and compassionate person. Whether Soli is involved in the arts, through his occasional acting roles, practicing law in the fields of personal injury, real estate, and entertainment, or as a restaurateur, Soli is fully committed to helping, sharing and giving. Soli was born and raised in Los Angeles and grew up on Sierra Alta Way right off the Sunset Strip, mere steps away from the famed historic hotel, The Chateau Marmont. His grandparents Emilia and Virgilio Caravacci, immigrated to Los Angeles, from Italy in the 1800’s, and lived right behind the hotel on Marmont Lane. From the time Soli was a child, it was at his grandparents home that four generations would gather together for family functions.
9 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2017
Soli’s father, Dr. Giorgio Soli, was a civilian scientist, marine biologist who also worked in the US Navy for many years. Dr. Soli was one of the world's leading authorities on Phytoplankton, Dinoflagellates and he advanced the understanding of bioluminescence in these creatures. He also went on to work with Jacques Cousteau in France at the prestigious Institute Oceanographique. His mother, Althea Caravacci, who passed away in 1991, was a professor of Italian studies at UCLA for 38 years. Soli’s mother was a very strong, influential presence and a role model in his life. He credits her for helping to shape him into the person that he has become. He also credits her for instilling in him the importance of family, his Italian heritage, culture, and of course education. Soli graduated from The American School in Switzerland. He went on to study and graduate from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and then on to pursue Law at the California College of Law, after which he took his bar exam and passed. He is fluent in Italian, French, and Spanish. After Soli’s mother passed away, he felt that he wanted to honor her and keep her legacy alive and thus created the ACR - Althea Caravacci Reynolds Scholarship. Caravacci-Reynolds, author, humanitarian, teacher, served as the Director of the Education Abroad Program, Undergraduate Advisor, and a member of the UCLA Academic Senate and the Emeriti Committee. Her special interests were in methodology and Italian theater, which she incorporated in her classes by regularly staging and producing Italian plays, using her students as actors. High school students and members of the community attended the stage productions, which were held at UCLA. Professor Reynolds received numerous awards for her dedicated work to enhance Italian culture and art in Southern California. They included a knighthood from the Italian government, a gold medal from the Italian Ministry of Fine Arts, a bronze medal from the Italian Ministry of Culture, and the title of Cavaliere al merito della Repubblica Italiana. Each May, the Scholarship is awarded to a deserving student in the Italian studies program. The Scholarship fosters and promotes the link between Italian culture and today's world. It also permits undergraduate students in Italian studies to pursue their academic goals in researching Italian art, literature, and science. A recent recipient researched and did a paper on the connection of Equine Therapy for autistic children. The result of the study conducted by Italian researchers shows consid-

erable improvement in communication skills after exposing the patients to Equine Therapy. The scholarship study highlighted the usefulness of the equine protocols and it has gone on to be used by therapists who work with autistic children. - Equine Therapy is responsible for saving countless horses that would otherwise be euthanized. Older horses, or seriously injured ones, are saved and nursed back to health. These rescued animals are then in turn used by Equine Therapists to work with autistic children. It’s a win, win situation. One of the other recipients went on to pursue studies in the power of theater as a therapeutic tool. This female recipient found that drama therapy is beneficial to patients with neural degenerative diseases and cerebral trauma, since activities incorporating theatrical elements aid in the control of body movements and mental functions. In addition to literature research on the beneficial role of theater therapy in Italian institutions, her internship experience at the Casa dei Risvegli Luca Nigris in Bologna, a rehabilitative clinic for people who have woken from comas, helped to illustrate the importance of theater as an expressive therapy that facilitates the healing of neurologically damaged pathways. She also found that theater has been proven to be an exceptionally efficient form of rehabilitative therapy in various other settings. Not only does drama therapy reduce the probability that released prisoners will recommit crimes, but it also aids in the difficult recovery of patients who have suffered from cerebral lesions. Theatrical prison groups provide prisoners with an outlet to cope and reflect upon their lives by means of acting; the famous Taviani brothers capture the powerful effect of drama therapy in their film, Cesare deve morire (Cesar Must Die, 2012), in which the prisoners’ personal struggles are presented to viewers.

Soli’s philosophy has always been to bridge his heritage with his present day surroundings. He loves living in California and is grateful for all that it has offered him and his family. He also feels very connected to the Spanish/Mexican influence and traditions of the area. Twenty-five years ago, Soli had the opportunity to open his own restaurant – he has since owned four. One of the restaurants, which he opened along the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, is a Mexican restaurant called the Coral Beach Cantina. Soli has poured his love of food and culture into this restaurant that has become a favorite spot, and not just for the locals, but also for all who travel along the PCH or for those who take the drive up the coast to dine on authentic Mexican food. But it’s not just about the delicious food and great margaritas; the outdoor patio is a perfect place to meet up with family and friends. Soli is proud to say that he has employed mostly the same workers at his restaurant since it opened and he is very loyal to them. He likes to keep it running like a close-knit family and that’s why he makes sure to take care of his employees and their families even in the winter months when the business slows down. Over the years Soli has given back to the Malibu community through the Coral Beach Cantina. He continues to provide a substantial reduction of 50% for all food and beverages to all first responders whenever there are serious natural disasters that occur in the area - firefighters, police, lifeguards and highway patrol – and they dine at his restaurant. He understands the sacrifices that these people make and feels that it’s his way of giving back to them and saying thank you for their service. Soli is an animal lover and has always been a strong believer of promoting the well-being of animals. His current four-legged friends are Gunner, a German shepherd rescue from West Los Angeles, as well as Edmund and Jack, two rescue cats that were given to him by a close friend. All three have been with him for the past five years. Soli says that he could not imagine a life without the companionship and love he feels for his pets. Among all the many things Soli is involved in, at heart, he is a loyal and loving family man. He cherishes his time with daughters Olivia and Sophia, and his girlfriend Maria Elena Infantino, a world-renowned singer. C
onnecting through Play By Tara-jenelle Walsch
“Beep-Beep!” she said, as she squeezed my nose. That was the interaction I had with my sister the very first time we met. My mother introduced us shortly after I was born and my sister took one look at me and thought, “Let’s play!” Lovely, isn’t it? How the innocent express and share joy so freely. How they connect with others through delight. Playfulness started in our lives long before we could speak. You might even say that it’s a language of its own. Infants giggle and smile and connect naturally with others through games like peek-a-boo. Then, as toddlers, through patty cake, and preschoolers with hide and seek. In essence, the language of play is the spirit of who we are, coming out to celebrate. This is not something that we need to learn, it’s an innate and instinctive desire to want to shine freely from within. A universal expression of joy, not privy to any particular race, ethnicity or religion. In fact, humanity itself is not even privy to this language because animals communicate through play, as well. Our pets spin in circles, run after toys and wag their tails to engage us in a little fun. Even wild animals joyfully chase, roll around and frolic with each other. Yet, while it’s no secret that play is such a large part of who we are, lately I’ve noticed that we are forgetting. We’re getting consumed with the serious and absorbed in the absurd, and consequently making little time to experience and express that aspect of ourselves. Thankfully, the month of June has arrived to save the day! Since we were young, June has notoriously represented a sense of play as the school year ended and we celebrated summer’s arrival. It’s been the light at the end of a year-long tunnel of dedication to our studies and work. Even now that we’re older, June continues to act as an unspoken permission slip to collectively exhale, reminding us to slow down and have a little fun. All which is a major plus, because being able to balance life’s responsibilities with light-heartedness is an essential part of our emotional and physical well-being. 16 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2017
All this being said, it’s no surprise that we connect so naturally with others when we are in a playful mood. It is one of the more comfortable paths to commonplace with others, one that instantly warms the moment with family and friends or breaks the ice with strangers. Think about it, when we have the ability to temporarily let go of all that’s in our mind, and allow ourselves to be playful, if even just in conversation, it creates more opportunities to connect with others, which ultimately gives us a wonderful sense of unity in our hearts. The best part is that there is no need to wait for vacation or even the weekend to incorporate more play into your daily life and interactions with others— you can start right now. Here are some fun ideas to try that will reignite your childlike spirit: Be Spontaneous Do something today that’s spontaneous. Something that you wouldn’t normally do, and for no reason at all. Just do it, because. If you can share this spontaneity with another person, that’s even better. If you can’t, then there are opportunities to connect with another person through your enthusiasm around the spontaneous event. Maybe you spontaneously grab an ice cream cone with someone after lunch, or even take the adventure alone, but tell the service person who hands you the cone how excited you are to be eating ice cream in the middle of the day. Then have a little fun when you go back to the office and, “Nanny-nanny, booboo“ your co-workers about how you just had a mid-day treat! Be Silly It’s crazy how we lose so much of our silliness as adults. Understandably so, though, because of all the responsibilities, stresses and heartaches we experience. Yet, as we’ve heard time and time again, the key is balance. Our life is greatly enriched when we can learn to interweave lightness into the heavy. 17 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2017
One easy way to spark up some silliness is to speak your thoughts out loud in a zany voice. It’s amusing even when you’re completely alone and when others are around they usually jump in and share their nuttiness! Being unexpectedly goofy in any way almost always takes others by surprise and brings a smile to their face. Sing Music Singing is such a wonderful way to move you out of your mind and into your heart. It physically shifts your vibration into a more relaxing state. Remember the scene in Risky Business when Tom Cruise sings and dances around in his underwear? This would score you some major playful points and instantly shift your energy. Go ahead and give it a try, just put on a song and sing your heart out. Even singing at full capacity like this in the car is liberating. Or, one of my personal favorites is to break into song around others and encourage them to join in! Celebrate Find something to celebrate with another that may normally pass you by. There doesn’t have to be a birthday or special event on the calendar for horns to blow or corks to pop. Don’t just check the biggies off of your to-do list or say, “nice going!” to a friend, take it to the next level and create mini-celebrations throughout the month by really acknowledging each other or a passage in time. Praising your family and friends for an accomplishment or glorifying small victories is a super fun way to play and also leaves those involved feeling seen and supported. Regardless of how you bring more play into your daily life, remember that there are no rules. It’s just about having fun and being lifted into a deeper sense of connection with yourself and others. Let’s all do this together—let’s consciously connect with each other by celebrating ourselves through play. Tag! You’re it! Play Roadmap: 1- Spirit: Remember that play is innately part of you, not something you have to learn. It’s the spirit of who you are, coming out to celebrate! 2 - Spontaneity: Do something that you wouldn’t normally do, for no reason at all. 3 - Silliness: Be unexpectedly goofy. 4 - Singing: Break into song more often. 18 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2017
5 - Celebrate: Create cork-popping moments throughout the month. * Bonus * Play Meditation: To tap into the feeling of play, close your eyes and think back to your childhood when you were under seven years old and had no concept of time, money or even your physical appearance. You were just you, without the responsibilities, rules or edict that accompanies adulthood. Remember how your main priority back then was just to play? Daily concerns were generally; when could you play, what you could play with, how long could you play and with whom you could play. Breathe into your memory of what the freedom of not carrying any responsibility felt like and how delightful it was to just be you and express joy naturally. Then, after a couple of breaths, try and slide that feeling of freedom into who you are today and visualize being playful in your current daily life.

The Paradox Within Vulnerability
By Angela Dunning
There is a huge paradox within vulnerability: That from a place of such struggle and pain comes never before experienced strength and growth in an individual.
face, we look different; fresher. We also feel different, our energy is different, we have grown and matured; something of necessity has taken place.
Vulnerability has an immense power and beauty that we are unaware of until we are pulled down into its darkest center; sucked down into the blackness and held there for a time. It feels like it will never end and we yearn for the life that we once had.
There's also something about being taken out of our normal routine, roles and responsibilities in life that is a vital and necessary component of this process of change.
And, yet, something miraculous is taking place. Something marvelous is happening; we are changing and growing in a way that is impossible under normal circumstances, or rather, when we believe ourselves to be invulnerable... How is, it, we ponder, that after being taken to hell and back - perhaps through illness, loss or an accident; after going through the grist of the mill again - sometimes taking us so near to death we can almost touch it; where we are taken down to the depths of insecurity, fear and anxiety in times of extreme vulnerability; where we feel fragile, uncertain, wracked with selfdoubt and we can even doubt we have a future at such times - that we then re-emerge feeling stronger, wiser, older, more matured and centered in ourselves? We are surer of ourselves, we are calmer inside and we feel more grounded that we ever have before. We are, indeed, utterly changed. Essential growth has taken place and we are different somehow. Others can see it in our
Like refugees, we are utterly displaced from our own lives. We may need to be dependent again on others, perhaps for the first time since we were a child, which in itself conjures up painful memories of letting others do for us and help us. And, of course, we need to deal with not being in control for once. We desperately want our independence swiftly back, to be self-sufficient again, and not to feel helpless. Yet, for this change to take place, we have to surrender all of that we hold so dear for a time. Our lives, it seems, are not just our own, we do belong to others, we are cared for and we do need others to get by in life. We cannot do it all ourselves. We are not superman or superwoman. We are fragile, needy and vulnerable. It turns out that we are, in fact, soft in the center of our hardened outer-shell of persona or status. Vulnerability pulls us down into this softer internal place, where we find our real-selves, quietly sheltering from all the noise and busyness of normal daily life.
25 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2017
During such times normal time frames seem to dissipate. Each minute counts and is felt; time seems to literally slow down. And in a way, it has. Except really it us who have slowed down. Forced to do so through immobility, pain or illness, grief or depression, we are forced to face each moment anew, instead of sailing-by, barely catching a glimpse of it as we race through our busy lives.
crack you wide open. To stop you in your tracks and say: Okay, let's start again. As if we need energetically, emotionally and physically re-setting from time to time. At the same time a clear message is given to us: That it's not okay to keep going in the same way or on the same path, year after year. Something, therefore, must happen to set us off on a different path, and crucially, in a different way than we have conducted our lives previously.
Each small tiny step of progress back to health or normal life is a marvelous, wondrous and huge achievement. The first time we walk again after a fall, the first time we can lift something or make ourselves a cup of tea again, the first time we smile or laugh, becomes a major accomplishment, one that is celebrated and not taken for granted.
The paradox of vulnerability is, therefore, that it can indeed sometimes take us to hell and back, but that when we do return, we are changed. Things cannot ever be as they were before. And from our insecurity and pain, and our doubt and fragility, has come a strength and a confidence that is mature, wise and enduring.
When we return to work, if we can at some point, we are different and our colleagues see this in us, and we feel proud of ourselves for being able to return to our "normal" life once more. Perhaps we also now feel more grateful for our colleagues, our daily work tasks and challenges as we begin to feel stronger each day. Everything we previously took for granted now becomes a wondrous achievement. Again, like in childhood, when we tried something new for the first time and it worked and we applaud our smallest of milestones. After such periods of vulnerability you also see the world differently. You're hugely aware of and sensitive to others' vulnerability now too as well as your own. Your fragility has been brought closer to the surface; it is no longer hidden so deeply away beneath several layers of protection. Tears come more easily. You empathize with others more, with their pain and struggles, and you have more time overall for others too. Our compassion for ourself and others also tends to deepen after such experiences. The magic potential within vulnerability is not only how it changes us inside, but also that it brings us closer to others. We have felt into our perhaps unwanted need for others, we have realized how dependent we are on others and them on us; our real inter-dependency becomes more apparent. As BrenÊ Brown says: "Through my research, I found that vulnerability is the glue that holds relationships together. It’s the magic sauce. The growth and changes you have gone through was the reason for the accident, illness or loss. Something major had to be re-balanced. And to do so it was necessary to
26 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2017
We have returned but we are changed: normal life should not simply be resumed but rather allowed to expand through our new-found awareness, sensitivity, compassion and strength.

The Science of Mastering Sleep By Sifu Matthew
34 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2017
ACCUMULATING DAMAGE While we can run after remedies including prescription medications that can cause great toxicity to our livers and organs, or natural herbs and bio- machines that reregulate inner rhythms for a time period, these fixes alleviate the stress and imbalance at the surface, without truly altering the depth of the stress patterns that created the problem. Without addressing those issues, they will continue to grow and even fortify themselves. Ultimately regaining the power to sleep must come from within--by understanding the miraculous electromagnetic nature of our body 's healing power. As an expert in the application of the manipulation of forces, attained through my years as a Master of the Martial Arts, I've learned to apply these principles to heal many of people's most intractable conditions and illnesses using natural means. Sleep deprivation is a common problem that can be easily resolved when approached through the proper pathways of working with the earth's grounding forces. THE CORE OF STRESS AND SLEEP DEFICIENCY Your body is designed to sleep and rest, as well as to gather massive amounts of minerals and elements that it receives during the non-active external moving periods. The minerals and elements are gathered through the earth's magnetic pull while the body is in a lying, receptive, and unstressed position. The heart and bones together serve as a dynamic means to absorb both electricity and minerals-- and store them for use the next day, as well as for upcoming periods of greater need.
As a society, we are trained to move forward with fervor: grasp the next idea; improve at rapid paces to achieve; maintain beauty, fitness, and wealth -- and compete at all costs. Striving at this rapid continuum can secretly deplete our invaluable body chemical stores and, while we may not be aware of it happening for months and sometimes years, our body and its wisdom will come crashing down and leave us in a stressful and sleepless paradigm, chasing desperate measures to find quick solutions that can damage our systems even more. THE POWER OF SLEEP Without proper sleep the body will function poorly on more levels than we can imagine. Improper rest will produce many symptoms ranging from lack of energy that impairs clear thinking, creates mood swings and causes irritability, all the way to auto-immune issues, poor detoxification, and even severe fertility and menstrual imbalances.
Both stress and sleep are electromagnetic reactions that occur based on your ability to balance your magnetic field with the forces and fields around you. When you cannot sleep, your organs are too hot or active and have no capacity to connect to the earth and surrounding mineral fields that are designed to stabilize you and absorb the cooling and replenishing properties of the night for your body to gather for detoxification and healing. The lack of coolness and flow is why stress literally feels like a constant inner shaking, a tension that creates the inability to calm or slow down. It is a failure to engage the cooling powers of the body's system and control one's own electromagnetic field. Ultimately, sleep cannot happen without the body being allowed to enter back into its cooling and absorbing rhythm. All the feelings we experience are electrochemical reactions between the stimulus in our environment and our body. Sleep is an engagement between the earth and the body; the body cools down based on the shift of the earth's position in relation to the body, the sun, and the particles in the atmosphere.

Patricia Walker, certified trainer/trailblazer for Infinite Possibilities, and organizer of TMI of Northern Colorado, a local chapter affiliated with The Monroe Institute, is the author of the award-winning body/mind/spirit memoir, Dance of the Electric Hummingbird, which is personally endorsed by rock legend Sammy Hagar. Patricia has been featured several times in The Loveland Reporter-Herald newspaper, as well as Fort Collins LifeTimes.com, Asana Journal, Aquarius Magazine, Elephant Journal, HedraNews, Best of You Today, LiveNation.com, Van Halen News Desk, Los Cabos Magazine, Inspire Me Today, Ultimate Classic Rock, thisibelieve.org, Bravewords. com, The Improper Arts, Sunrise Summits, and several poetry compilations and many others. She is an active member of Northern Colorado Writers.
She is also a sought-after and experienced radio show guest, most notably appearing on the Mancow Muller Show, the Suzanne Northrup Show, Colorado’s 94.3 FM Loudwire, and 88.9 FM KRFC radio stations, and has appeared in many podcast interviews. She is currently working on her next book, along with furthering her studies in the field of human consciousness and is dedicated to helping others discover their personal paths to self-realization, with a special interest in helping abused women. Dance of the Electric Hummingbird book synopsis: Few people envision spiritual enlightenment against the backdrop of celebrities, sex, and rock-n-roll, but as Patricia Walker discovered, some of the greatest things find you when and where you least expect them. She walked into a bar in Mexico looking for a good time and a few drinks with her husband. What she ended up finding was her true self and the spirituality that years of searching mainstream religion had not fulfilled. Sammy Hagar Talks about Patricia's book, he recommended music fans read the book ‘Dance of the Electric Hummingbird: An Ordinary Woman’s Accidental Journey to
Enlightenment, the Supernatural, and Rock Star Sammy Hagar,’ by Pat Walker. The Chickenfoot singer calls it a “must-read for redheads,” according to a report on the Van Halen News Desk. Hagar continues, saying that the author “takes to heart the same type of messages I try to relate through my music and my life — go out and seek your dreams, don’t ever give up, celebrate your life and every part of who you are. I know Pat’s journey of mystical transformations will inspire you. Enjoy the journey.” So, what is the journey? Well according to the book’s description, ‘Electric Hummingbird’ follows the author as she wanders into a bar in Mexico with her husband. She is hoping to enjoy a rock concert by a famous singer previously unknown to her, but something frightening and wonderful happens instead. We won’t give you the whole story — which, by the way, supposedly is based on a true story –but suffice to say God, psychic revelations and Hagar play a role in what follows. Although Hagar is no longer lead singer of Van Halen, the book is available at the Van Halen store via its website. Not only that, but if our dream were to come true, the world as we know it would change. And although our current situation may be unrewarding, it's comfortable and familiar. For a lot of us, change is frightening because it's the unknown, so rather than risk what's familiar—even to realize our dreams— we often sabotage ourselves". A Soul-Awakening Experience and the Search for Explanations By Patricia Walker
40 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2017
f Until I had an unexpected out-of-body experience in the fall of 2003 during a rock concert in Mexico, I’d always considered myself a pretty sensible person, always tried to “keep my feet on the ground,” but at the same time, keep an open mind. But I questioned things. I always questioned. During the concert that year, something strange and wonderful happened. I left my body. My consciousness went somewhere that was not earth. I experienced what I would call my definition of God—and we were one. And no, I wasn’t drunk or on drugs. It was as if I had entered another realm and been given a taste of something that my human mind could not fathom, something huge and divine and without beginning or end. And I knew in that moment, that the only thing that mattered in all of creation and beyond—is love. I was immersed in love, as if a golden chalice of unconditional and overflowing love had been poured over me and through me and all around me. The experience lasted only seconds, at least that’s my best estimation, and before I knew it, I was somehow back in my body, rocking to the music of Sammy Hagar onstage. While on vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, my husband and I wandered into a bar owned by rock star Sammy Hagar (formerly of Van Halen). We were hoping to take in some rock and roll music even though I had no idea who Sammy was at the time. I got much more than I bargained for. My out-of-body experience, which, back then, I referred to as a mystical experience, opened something in my soul. From that instant, things began happening to me that I fought against, primarily because I tried so hard to remain logical although there was no rational explanation for the things that were happening. I developed psychic abilities I never knew I had. I was both frightened and excited because the things that were happening were all positive, but I felt as if I was standing at the edge of an enormous precipice, overlooking a world I didn’t understand, things I couldn’t name or label because there were no words in my language to describe them.
41 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2017
My search for logical explanations led me to The Monroe Institute (TMI) in Faber, VA, a non-profit organization dedicated to the exploration of human consciousness. Some attendees even have out-of-body experiences (OBEs) there. I now knew that there was a term for my experience—OBE. During my weeklong program at TMI, I experienced more things that had no description in language. I learned that I am so much more than my physical body and that the death of the physical body is not the end. I learned that if we were to use just a tiny bit more of our brains, we would be able to accomplish more than we ever dreamed. I learned that the physical world is an illusion. I learned that my imagination and my conscious mind are inextricably connected and if I honestly believed in something, it was so. For instance, if, during one of the sessions, I “saw” a banana eating a fox, I might be convinced, by my own perception of the event, that it was entirely possible, because there’s no such thing as “impossible.” Our minds convince us that certain things are impossible, but that doesn’t mean that our minds are always correct in their assessments of the situation or that our beliefs are “the truth”. Our perceptions of what’s real or true are based on our beliefs, our thoughts, our heritage, our religious teachings, the media, society, and many more influences, and just because we believe something doesn’t mean it’s “true,” even if we’ve convinced ourselves that it is. We must learn to step outside of our beliefs, i.e., that it’s impossible for a woman to leave her body during a rock concert and enter into another realm of consciousness. It’s not impossible. It happened to me. Or maybe we’ve believed since we were young that we are somehow less than everyone else. That belief may have caused us to seek to confirm that belief and therefore brought us sadness, loneliness, and disease all our lives. But it doesn’t have to be that way if we can change that negative belief. I realize that those previous paragraphs seem to contradict each other, but the difference is in whether the belief is negative (causing harm to one’s self or to others) or positive, or simply innocuous. There is obviously no need to change a positive belief, or an innocuous one. Our beliefs govern us—always—even if we’re not aware 42 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2017
of them, which most of the time, we are not. And those beliefs sometimes get in the way of the endless possibilities available to us. We also have complete control of our lives—our thoughts, our deeds and our circumstances—and we can change these any time we choose by steering our beliefs in the direction in which we want them to flow. Nothing is impossible. Once I began to absorb these philosophies into my life, (which, I might add, I came to of my own volition), the sun seemed brighter, and nature seemed to speak a language that was just beneath my ability to understand—rocks and stones and trees seemed to hold some wonderful secret that I could almost grasp, but not quite. These experiences, and more, have made me stop doubting that there is so much more to life, and death, than we can ever imagine. It also made me wonder—is your reality the same as mine? This opens the door for all sorts of conversations and speculations, like diversity and tolerance between human beings. We can never truly understand another person’s perspective unless we’ve seen it through their eyes, with their life experiences and lessons thrown in. How do you know that that careless jerk who just cut you off in traffic this morning on your way to work, truly was just a careless jerk? Maybe he was on his way to the hospital with his dying child in the backseat. Or maybe he just spilled hot coffee in his lap, but we will never know. It could also be that he is just a careless jerk! The deeper I peer into the realms of consciousness, the more I see that there is no bottom. Or top. Or sides. It is limitless. It is omnipotent. It is, from my estimation, where God exists. And where God exists, nothing is impossible. If we believe in ourselves, we are also believing in God. (And by the term “God,” I am not implying any religious belief. God is whatever God is to you.) We are infinitely more powerful than we realize. I once heard a story about a man who searched everywhere for a book that was said to contain all the secrets of the Universe, and after many adventures and finally finding the book, when he opened it, there was only a mirror inside. And he finally understood.

CORRECTING THE
FENG SHUI STORY By Michael White Ryan
44 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2017
The essence within the principals of Feng Shui were deliberately shrouded in mystery, so as not to unveil its true nature, a powerful and empowering resource of the simple and complex knowledge of all that is, the past, the now, the future. The term connection and energy abounds among today’s standard average conversation. And yet fifty years past I can remember standing in living rooms speaking with arms outstretched moving wildly about “the universe” and “the we”. Feng Shui has many components, the three-main being. MAN, EARTH, UNIVERSE. So what is FS (Feng Shui)? Well it’s an educational system based on proven knowledge to help mankind understand the surrounding energies that have a constant influence on human behavior. This takes into account, the landform, buildings, people and time. Make no mistake, this is a system that allows and empowers any individual to take greater control over the challenges and results we engage, as we travel this life-path. How we struggle or survive depends on those choices we
make. When one chooses to listen to recommendations from (1) a positive external source (2) from your constantly guiding intuition (3) and observational reasoning. It is then, with knowledge, we have control over changing any existing destiny, into a transformative life sustaining happy environment. In order for humans to understand their possibilities in life, the five elements of WATER – WOOD – FIRE – EARTH – METAL plus the terms YIN and Yang were introduced. These five elements plus our dualities are the very foundation of who we are!!! Feng Shui is not a religion, that’s just empty gossip, never was and never will be. It’s a resource of complimentary observations by highly intelligent scholars and scientists. Unfortunately, these days we are lead to believe our observations are not real, hence the controversy around the total misunderstanding of Feng Shui here in America. Balance and harmony belong naturally to everybody and within every home and business. Life is all about having success stories and the lessons learnt for the next elevated level of living. If we increase our successes, then you could say, your luck has expanded. 45 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2017
BALANCE AND HARMONY ARE NOT GIFTS YOU FIND IN LIVING LIFE THEY ARE THE VERY ESSENCE OF ALL YOUR CREATIONS When and where did all this FS stuff begin? Everyone has a tale to tell, but in the future, I think we will discover that its origins and time of birthing is thousands of years older than the informed 4,000 years. There exist many schools of thought, all starting with the same 5 elements and Yin Yang. Wording can be confusing, for example (dragon can have a referred meaning in many ways) could be male, mountain, intuition, location and so on. Any consultant worth listening to will be able to read their Lou Pan. This Chinese compass is like a large dictionary, it contains all the information needed to help in accessing the conditions of a building and calculating the required recommendations. How does FS benefit me? What are the areas in life that I can expect. Opportunity comes dressed in all shapes and sizes, such as finance, relationship, personal leadership, well-being, quality of life, peace, energy, career, success and and and!!! How does all this come into being? If the universe is a living breathing entity and I breathe that universe into my body to live, then I am in a relationship with the energy which sustains all existence. The explanation is often given as wind and water, a metaphor of how energies from the earth and sky move and where they exist. A definition hidden in the symbolism of words. Yin and Yang play an important role in everyone’s life. I am not talking about the separation definition often given over to the negative/positive. Think of this pair as actors, always playing a different role in life and often changing characters, just to create some amusing fun into life’s mysteries. Today you are a quiet Yin and tomorrow you are a noisy Yang. Gender has nothing to do with it, we are all equal in this game. Also added to the mix are our human qualities of sight, sound, smell, taste, touch and that 6th sense better known as intuition. Boy, are we ever connected!!! Without any understanding of these connections and there are thousands upon thousands all bundled into one. In constant motion and repeatedly in a game of changing chairs, it’s no wonder all the confusion, as we have never been taught to grasp another idea that could be as big as the universe. Feng Shui is in a constant upgrade as new translations from often hidden ancient texts are uncovered. Once we
46 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2017
get into, whole-concept mode of big picture thinking, it’s much easier to grasp the magnitude and broad aspects, where FS can be enjoyed, helpful and it’s many offerings... 1. it is the essence of life itself 2. understand the complexity of human existence 3. design a home that supports and encourages opportunities 4. evolve a consciousness that is aware to foresee consequence before decision 5. be of respectful mind, the endurance in an endless acceptance of the self 6. the ability to empower any business 7. wellbeing on all levels Now as the story unfolds, we arrive at the beginning. As a new page emerges, our taste of life is renewed. Blessings to one and all. michael

An Action Film Triggers Humanitarian Awareness
Movie “The 86” starts conversations about Venezuela during the BHFF
On April 29th, Venezuelan action Film “The 86” (Los OchoSeis in Spanish), was presented to an avid audience at the 17th Beverly Hills Film Festival (BHFF). Producer-actor Carlos Antonio León and fellow Venezuelan Malena Gonzáles alongside Italian singer Maria Elena Infantino attended the star-studded screening of the film which already won the Audience Choice award at the Venezuelan Film Festival ELCO and has garnered strong reviews in every venue it screens. León’ intentions were to answer a couple of questions from the audience but never expected an avalanche of them particularly from an audience he assumed “not too familiar” with the current situation of his country. It was precisely that unfamiliarity that prompted the audience to ask as many questions as they could possible think of. León, Gonzáles and Infantino tried to veer the questions to matters related to the film but the worrisome humanitarian situation of Venezuela became the topic to discuss. Therefore, they decided to give Venezuela the service it so much need right now by motivating the audience to actively participate in spreading the word about the humanitarian situation of their beloved country.
49 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2017
HUMANITARIAN CONCERNS As León explained during the Q&A session, “The violence in this film is only a fraction compared to the violence that’s taking place in Venezuela at the moment.” Actress and activist Maria Conchita Alonso, who was in attendance, complimented León’s comments by expanding much more on the precarious situation of Venezuela where food, medicine, and other basic needs are scarce and the population is suffering from malnutrition, starvation, and lack of medical attention. Although the situation in Venezuela has been a focus of international concerns for more than 15 years now, in the USA it barely makes the news. “We need to create awareness about what’s been going on in Venezuela. We need all the help we can possible get and spread the news all over by sharing on social media all information about Venezuela” says Malena Gonzáles. “It’s very frustrating to see how many people dying in Venezuela. The action need to be taken now. Today more than ever we need people to be aware of our situation and spread the word all over” says León. Maria Elena Infantino first visited Venezuela during the filming of “The 86” and was appalled to see people making hourlong lines to buy a piece of bread or a roll of toilet paper. “Such a rich country and most of its people can’t afford food!” she says. The audience attending the screening of “The 86” could not contain themselves and flooded the guests with questions that went from politics, religion, to socio-economics and then, of course, about the film. THE FILM Inspired by true events, “The 86” tells the story of a deadly gang that was famous in Caracas during the 1980’s. They called themselves “The 86” as to signal the many members that pledged alliance to the gang. Their criminal actions, as if taken from a Tarantino movie, were splashy and well publicized by the local newspapers which, back in the day, labeled them as “the most dangerous gang in South America.” Thomas Piedra (actor-producer) came up with the idea of making a film about them as he witnessed the glory
50 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2017
days of the gang and knew many of its members personally. Piedra convinced León to take part in the venture as a producer and he also wanted León to play “Casanova,” the suave ladies-man of the film (which León plays note-perfect). Later on, Claudia Lepage and David DaSilva joined the production team and the project finally took off. This film was financed 100% by private investors and has nothing to do with CNAC (Venezuela’s government-ran film funding entity). “We are very proud that we could make this film under our terms and no one else’s. We own this film. It’s 100% independent and ours” says Piedra. Malena Gonzales plays female cop “La Llona” with extraordinary precision while Infantino plays “Juana” with heartbreaking passion. The stars of the film, Ernesto Ceballos (“Chino”), Martha Tarazona (wonderful as “Yessenia”), Jose Roberto Diaz (“Don Gato”), Carlos Madera (“Negrin”), Laureano Olivarez (“Terminator”) and Erick Ronsó (“Cachito”) deliver stellar performances. Piedra himself does a great job as “Paco,” one of the members of “The 86.” But in all fairness, the whole cast deserves recognition as a pitch-perfect acting ensemble. Director Javier Mujica should be recognized for the amazing task of making out of this film something beyond the typical thug movie. Mujica elevated the film to the action genre by letting influences from other directors such as Guy Ritchie to imprint the film. Therefore, “The 86” feels more like movies such as “Snatch” or “The Bourne” saga rather than just another movie about Latin thugs. The editing, the music (all originally composed for the film by the great Pibo Marquez), the color, the texture, and the flow of the film reflects on the professionalism and capabilities of this team to make a film able to stand tall alongside any action film from Hollywood. And after the Q&A at the BHFF it also did a terrific job bringing the conversation up about Venezuela. Kudos to León, Gonzales and Infantino for putting Venezuela first!

YOUR BIG
WHY By Rhys Thomas
56 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2017
Is this all there is? The little voice in your head just won’t let up. Your life is good. Your job brings in enough money to support you and your family. You may even be climbing the ladder in your career, on your way to becoming a business owner or a CEO. But the little voice is still there. No matter how much you achieve, or how many toys you accumulate, the voice won’t go away. This can’t be it . . . Isn’t there something more? You try to ignore it, but the empty feeling behind the voice is hard to ignore. And there’s a good reason it won’t go away: you haven’t found your Big Why yet. What you have found is your little why—how to survive and get your bottom line covered. But there’s still something missing. And that’s the “missing piece” in the puzzle of having a fulfilling life: your Big Why. The French call it the raison d’être, your “reason for being.” Buddhists call it dharma, your path in life. It goes by other names: a calling or mission in life; your destiny. All of these point to the same thing: you are here for a purpose, and knowing what that purpose is, your Big Why, is the key to all of your success and happiness in life. In Discover Your Purpose by Rhys Thomas, you find your way back to a time when as a child you knew the answer to this question: Who am I and why am I here? With the help of a system that introduces you to your core self, the Life Purpose Profile System, you are able to reconnect with yourself and bring your Big Why into every aspect of your life. Only when you are on track with your unique purpose that drives all your choices and actions in life, can success be yours, because your life purpose is authentically who you are. Today, our sense of purpose in life is limited to our job titles and our roles in family and society. Self-worth depends on the amount of external influence you have and the money and resources you control. Within this system, you have the illusion of freedom, but when material success and recognition are the primary ways you define yourself, your sense of having a life purpose is limited. Society supports a pattern of striving that does not bring us inner peace.
At some point, you stop trying to fit into someone else’s notion of what makes us valuable. You no longer define yourself by your lineage, country, religion, government, or any other external system that might want to use you to further its own agenda. Traditional gender roles fall away because men and women are equally capable of achieving deep inner knowing and transcendence. We are evolving into a new kind of humanity. Jung called this new human the individuated self, Maslow called it the self-actualized self, Wayne Dyer called it the nolimit person. I call it the core soul self to underscore an identity that includes not only your accomplishments and your potential but also the spiritual and energetic dimension of your human experience. I will show you how your soul comes in five distinct profiles. Everyone falls into one of those five profiles, which helps account for some human differences and motivations. The question What should I do with my life? may no longer be the right question. Instead, you might start with the question Who am I? Knowing who you are, not what you should do, is the missing ingredient in your life purpose pursuit.

When you speak, “Aunt Zelda has cancer and she may die,” you have unconsciously created an emotional roadblock for yourself. You have unconsciously created an emotional roadblock for yourself. Your subconscious mind cannot distinguish between your hopes and your fears, the past or the present, or internal and external sources. Everything you say or think is real, is happening right now, and is all about you! Your body absorbs the words “cancer” and “die” and processes their emotional impact in protect mode as though YOU are in danger, and your body has processed in this manner since childhood! Why me? You and I have virus and cancer cells in our bodies. We have genetic predispositions. What activates these and other diseases? It is your belief that governs your health. Your ability to set and maintain healthy perceptions is the key to your physical and emotional wellness. How you see, feel, and digest, literally absorb into your cells. It is your perception of your life, and your perception is within your control to change.
Even if you did have a “happy” childhood, it is almost certain that right now your subconscious mind if actively limiting your physical and emotional health, but there is something you can do about it. Appreciate the perfection you already are. Your body is an amazing healing machine. When you were born, you knew how to heal yourself. NO one taught you. You could heal a cut or mend a broken bone. Stitches or a cast do not cause healing to begin. Your healing is a part of your cellular memory. Reproduction of perfect cells is in your cellular memory. Why do we need cellular cleansing? Throughout your lifetime, your body has kept a perfect copy of your every word, thought, and emotion. They are stored in your cellular memory. As a result, you have become what you say, think, and feel. Over time, many layers of emotional memories developed into blockages, interrupting your body’s flow of subtle energy; weakening your immune system. Your body’s cells are always in one or two modes: grow or protect. To continue good health – cells need to reproduce in grow mode. When in fight or flight response, adrenaline and chemical surges switch your cells into protect mode.
Your mind and body are not separate. Your beliefs and every emotional word you have spoken regarding anyone’s life have all been absorbed inside you – into your cellular memory – increasing your vulnerability to diseases becoming active, and slowing your natural recover response once a disease process has begun. Make better choices. 1. Be aware of your beliefs and the power of your choice of words. 2. Change your perception. Focus on the positive aspects of any situation. “What have I learned?” 3. Remove thought patterns that are not to your emotional benefit, including the unknown fears/ outdated self-protection programs which are currently running in your subconscious mind, through cellular cleansing What are the benefits of cellular cleansing? The wonderful thing about this process is that you don’t deal with old memories. You don’t have to remember anything because your body has all the knowledge to access every memory. You keep the memories of your life, but you release the painful emotions – allowing healthy growth to occur. A notable shift in physical wellness is experienced by the majority of clients after choosing the Conklin Method of Cellular Cleansing. Clients have found this to be a wonderful way to let go of their past issues and improving their lives today. 59 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2017

Do you worry about your weight? Can gaining five pounds ruin your day? Send you into a tailspin of frustration, maybe even panic and despair? Join the crowd—most of America is obsessed with their weight, and still gaining despite the vast amounts of angst, time, and money spent in pursuit of the elusive perfect body.
exercise system—in fact, it was originally developed for Olympic athletes in Russia about fifty years ago and is now used by most professional athletes and teams in the US. Amateur sports enthusiasts, weekend warriors and even couch potatoes are also enthusiastic users, because a little effort goes a long way with WBV.
I was worse than most, once weighing 200 pounds, severely addicted to food, and wildly bulimic.
Over a thousand research studies have shown a wide range of physical benefits from this new exercise system, including that ten minutes of working out on a powerful WBV machine gives you the benefits of an hour of conventional weight lifting; muscle strength, bone density, balance, coordination, and flexibility all increase. The research on metabolic rate and weight loss is not as clear, with some studies showing clear benefits (Vissers 2010) and others more mixed results (Cristi-Montero 2013). However, my experience is that when WBV is used along with aerobic exercise (WBV is not aerobic) and an understanding of detoxification and the importance of nutrition is taken into account, the results are often excellent. Scientific research generally does not fully take these natural health principals into account.
However, about 30 years ago, I began a journey of change that has led to healing my pathological relationship with food, and achieving a stable, healthy weight, body, and mind. Of course, nutrition and exercise are critical parts of losing weight and regaining one’s health. Just as important for long-term success, though, is changing your energy. One of the methods I used to change my life is whole body vibration (WBV), a revolutionary body, mind, and spirit therapy. WBV is particularly useful for weight loss because in addition to being an energy treatment it is a very intense
Oh no … I’m Gaining Weight! By Becky Chambers
At first the intense workout effect might seem hard to believe, but think of a guy using a jack hammer, and the arm and shoulder muscles they develop - it is hard work to hold weight against vibration. Different exercise positions target your arms, your stomach, your shoulders, etc., so that with ten one-minute exercises you can achieve a full body workout. Other benefits include increased levels of brain neurotransmitters (serotonin and norepinephrine), which boost your mood, motivation, and self-confidence, help you sleep, and give you energy—and that helps you be active, make better food choices and not eat as much. In addition, cortisol, our major stress hormone signaling our body to store and keep fat especially around our bellies, decreases. However, the most effective way to use WBV is to com-
bine it with homeopathy, a powerful energy medicine. Our chi energy guides our mind and body; without changing this energy it is like fighting the tide to change your body—a constant struggle to build dikes and sand dunes against an inexplorable natural force. On the other hand, if you change your energy, it is as if you get up from where you are sitting on the beach and move to higher ground—suddenly the tide is no longer overwhelming you. Thirty years ago I lost 80 pounds, because I became so sick I couldn’t eat—not a recommended way to lose weight! However, losing weight is actually easier than keeping it off. One doctor I consulted ten years after losing eighty pounds, but still sometimes ill and addicted to food, exclaimed, “You must be sick!” because it is so rare to lose a lot of weight and not regain it.

Homeopathy, a powerful form of energy medicine with a 200-year history of success worldwide, can help people with nearly every imaginable mental, emotional, and behavioral problem, as well as with physical issues. Our energy is created and expressed most powerfully in our brains with our thoughts and emotions. Trauma of any sort will be stored in our minds as negative thoughts, beliefs, and emotions, often deep in our subconscious. This disturbed energy, however, will be expressed through our bodies and behaviors. Homeopathy releases stuck negative energy through the power of resonating wavelengths. When the correct homeopathic remedy is taken, one that truly resonates with that person’s energy, it will “shatter” that energy in the same way that a singer hitting the correct note (producing a sound wave) can shatter a glass— creating a dramatic reaction in the physical world. Disturbed, negative energy can affect many aspects of losing weight, for example metabolism, hormone levels, energy and pain levels, which affect your ability and willingness to exercise, your mood (which can lead to emotional eating), and even food cravings and preferences. Some disturbed energy states are linked to a compulsion to eat or even binge on exactly the foods your conscious brain knows you should not be eating—ice cream, sweets, pastries, pasta, potato chips…. Not only have I seen this happen repeatedly, with myself and my clients, as we move through and release different negative energy states using homeopathy, I’ve also seen food cravings change in my dog with this method— where the changes are clearly not placebo. My dog was a life-long paper-acholic, scarfing down used Kleenex every chance she could for eight years. Then, under the stress of a severe illness, she got worse—she started eating money as well as Kleenex! I ended up giving her a series of homeopathic remedies for a compulsion to eat indigestible things along with her physical symptoms, and her behavior changed almost immediately after each new remedy. Eventually, after several remedies, releasing several disturbed energy layers, her life-long compulsion to eat paper products disappeared entirely, and she recovered completely from her debilitating illness. Combining these two methods, WBV and homeopathy, can create a healing fire of change, a conflagration that burns off excess pounds as well as the negative thoughts and emotions behind our disturbed body rhythms and compulsions. WBV is very powerful and effects every part of your body so you do need to be careful with it. For example, WBV
62 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2017
has a very powerful detoxification effect. This is a good thing as toxins are part of almost all chronic health issues including weight gain, but this effect can stress your body if you try to do too much WBV too quickly. Go slowly—don’t jump on a powerful machine and try to do ten minutes your first time—you may well end up feeling ill instead of better. For most people, I recommend starting with one minute on a gentle machine and gradually increasing. Most of us are not the Olympic athletes this technology was originally designed for—we have older, more delicately balanced bodies, full of quirks and issues. Second, educate yourself; not all WBV machines are the same, and it is important to use the right type of vibration. Third, there are quite a few contraindications for WBV—be sure to check that you don’t have one of these health conditions before trying WBV. Don’t Give Thoughts a Second Thought By Dean Sluyter
I hated high school dances. I didn’t know the cool moves. I envied the guys with older sisters who would play records and make them dance with them — they looked so slick and confident out on the floor, while I lurked on the sidelines, trying to figure out how they did it. Figure out. That, of course, was the problem — I was trying to process it through the thinking mind. When I did work up the courage to get out on the floor with a (gulp!) girl, I spent the whole time listening to my mind as it tried to break down what the other kids were doing, get my body to imitate them, evaluate how I was doing, and monitor the degree of contempt with which the other kids were surely watching my dorky moves. It was miserable.
64 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2017
TIt took some pretty serious weed-smoking to break out of that trap. Under the influence, I made a great discovery: Listen to the music, not the thoughts. And listen with the whole body. I could let the music bypass the mind and go straight to my stomach, my spine, my pelvis, my arms and legs, and move them. There was one disappointment, at first. I thought pot was supposed to blow my mind, blow away all my thoughts. They were still there. But I could ignore them. Thoughts? Performance anxiety? Social insecurity? And, for that matter, paranoia about getting busted by the school authorities? Sure, they were all there, but I was busy listening to, and moving with, the music. I could ignore the thoughts. Screw ’em. Soon after this epiphany, my earnest intoxicant usage came to an end. It had served its purpose. It turned out that the option of ignoring thoughts had always been available. Of course I could still act on the few that that were useful, but the rest of that static? I could just let that sizzle in the background. Meditation became my consciousness optimizer of choice. I explored a number of methods and traditions, and eventually my teachers encouraged me to teach others. Soon I discovered the number one challenge of teaching meditation: convincing people that thoughts don’t matter. There’s such a strong and prevalent preconception that meditation means forcibly suppressing your thoughts or making your mind a blank that it can take some skill to pull the rug out from under those expectations and guide (or trick) the student into tasting the ease of peaceful coexistence with thoughts. Whether you meditate with a mantra, breath, noting of sensations, or anything else, the key is that our attention is naturally drawn to the silent boundlessness that is our own essential nature. Like a feather floating out of the sky, it may take its sweet time drifting left and right, but in the end gravity is irresistible. All this time, we thought we’d achieve tranquility by quieting the mind, but that turns out to be backwards. We settle naturally into tranquility, and, as a side effect, the mind tends to become less active. But even if it doesn’t — if there’s still dust floating in the air after the feather settles — it doesn’t matter, because we’re tranquil. In meditation as in life (on the dance floor and everywhere else), our feverish preoccupation with thoughts
is misplaced — and can be dropped at any moment. It doesn’t matter what you think. It doesn’t matter how little or how much you think. It doesn’t matter whether your thoughts are momentous or trivial, clever or dumb. Just don’t engage with them. Listening to your thoughts — buying into them, taking them seriously — is engaging with them. Trying to push your thoughts away is engaging with them. Trying to think your mantra louder or bear down on your breath harder to keep new thoughts from coming is engaging with them. Trying to resolve your thoughts is engaging with them. Whether you’re wrestling with the meaning of life or trying to remember who played The Professor on “Gilligan’s Island,” the feeling is usually, “If I just get this one thing resolved, then I can settle down.” What was your one must-resolve-now question ten minutes ago? Anything you try to do with regard to thoughts is engaging with them. And that makes meditation supremely simple. You don’t have to work out which kinds of engagement are helpful and which aren’t. Just drop the whole thing. Fuhgeddabouddit. It’s fine. It takes care of itself. It turns out that, back in high school, no one really cared how cool or dorky your dance moves were … except you. Now, no one cares how thought-filled or silent your meditation is … except you. You can just ignore those thoughts and dance your way through meditation — and life.

E ergy of Love By Nancy E. Yearout
There have been many songs written about love. The Beatles tune “All You Need is Love” is one that often comes to mind when I think of how many people are searching for fulfillment. It seems we are all searching for happiness in our materialistic world. If you search long enough, you will realize that love is what you’re looking for. Love heals us emotionally and physically.
70 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2017
As I am out and about connecting with people, I don’t see many smiles on people’s faces. Why is this? I feel that many of us are caught up in our fast-paced life and are not noticing that there are people all around us, searching for the same thing we are. Are we all in our own little worlds so much that we are not seeing each other? I often wonder how the joy got lost in some folks. Why don’t they smile? I have witnessed people in the supermarket line looking down as they text or crossing off the items on their list. No one looks up and speaks to each other, let alone flashes a smile. What’s the deal? Where’s the love? Have we become that disconnected? It’s sad for me to see.
can be a very meaningful act of kindness. Maybe that person in line is having a bad day and needs a kind word. A compliment from any human being, stranger or not, is appreciated. A few kind words can make someone’s day a good one! I realize that you are not going to like everybody in this world and that they may not be fond of you, either.
It’s a rarity if you see a smile on someone’s face out in public or hear a kind word uttered to a stranger. I just want to shake those folks who are in line texting and say, “Wake Up! Don’t you get it? There are people all around you who are in need of your smile, a kind word, your love energy.” Here’s some of Mother Teresa’s wisdom regarding love: “I repeat that it is not what we do, but how much love we put into doing it. Paying someone a compliment
This lesson is simple: if you want love, you must give the energy of love! The Universe knows when you are giving out love vibrations, and it, in turn, rewards you with love energy. God has engineered it that way. Have you ever hear the saying “You only get what you give”? Giving love starts the love energy flowing. Once the giving of love is in motion, the love energy will flow out into the Universe and return back to you tenfold.
What I have come to realize is that when you are happy and know that you are loved, you give love freely. The nice thing about love is that it’s free and it’s contagious. The more love that you give, the more love you will receive. This is the law of the Universe.

Have you ever noticed a couple that’s in love, walking along holding hands, and wondered what their secret is? What they have is not a secret. The concept is simple: when you love unconditionally, then you will receive love unconditionally. If you understand this concept, then you are one of the more fortunate souls on this earth. It’s the give and the take, the yin and the yang. I can remember a time when I was searching for the key to happiness. I assumed (as most of us do) that when you have achieved your next material goals in life, then you will be truly happy! It took me much trial and error to realize that the car or the house—the things—were not fulfilling me as a person. Only love, true love, the love energy, fulfills the human soul completely. My husband and I are in love with each other. So no matter what is happening in our lives, we know that we always have each other at the end of the day. I know that when we are out in public shopping or out to dine, people notice that sparkle in our eyes when we look at each other. What they are picking up on is our love energy for each other. Many times they notice us and comment on how happy we are, as it is evident that we are a happy couple. It is a good feeling to know that you are loved and that you love someone so much that it shows. The love seems to ooze out of us, and we are bright, happy souls. On the other side of the spectrum, I see many unhappy people who are just going through the motions and seem lost. There are negative folks out there who do not like happy couples. It’s the misery-loves-company scenario. What is going on here on our planet? I believe we are so caught up in our worldly life that we have forgotten what the most important thing is—love. We have become such a materialistic society concerned over money, jobs, and basic living issues that our spiritual side has gotten lost. The only way to overcome these stumbling blocks in life is to send out love energy. Love, and the energy that it holds, possesses the ability to bring joy and laughter into anyone’s crazy world. I want to share with you what I have learned thus far in my lifetime about love. The lesson is that the tough days here on this planet are bearable when you have love in your life. You may be in love with your spouse, a child, a parent, or even a pet who keeps the love alive in you. The key is to keep the love alive inside of you, keep the energy flowing, and allow the magic of love to fill you up. My hope is that we all learn to give love and to receive this

precious gift that God has given us. The Dali Lama says this about love: “The foundation of all spiritual practice is love. That you practice this well is my only request. Of course, to be able to do so in all situations will take time, but you should not lose courage. If we wish happiness for mankind, love is the only way.” With all the violence and lack of respect for each other occurring daily in our world, to find our way back to loving each other seems nearly impossible. But we have no choice! If we as the human race do not stop the killing and the hatred toward each other, we will be no more. Our world is at a tipping point. We have a chance to Wake Up! The mission is to send out love energy and watch it grow!
