An Artist....A Legend....An Icon....

Gina Lollobrigida By Dina Morrone

6 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e July 2018

When Maryam Morrison, who first met Gina Lollobrigida in Rome, at the age of sixteen, told me she would be featuring her in the July issue of The Eden Magazine, my emotions ranged from ecstatic to elated to OMG I’m going to scream so loud my neighbors are going to hear me and call the police! I had to pinch myself. Being Italian and growing up in an Italian household in Canada, I was well aware from an early age of who Gina Lollobrigida was and what she meant to Italians. After all, she was an Italian treasure, an Italian export through her work in film, a woman of immeasurable beauty and talent, a trendsetter in style and appearance and an icon to the entire world. Women were cutting off their long tresses to sport a much shorter do, so they could resemble her. My own mother cut off her long braids to copy the “Gina” look! Gina Lollobrigida, legend, icon, star, actress, artist, photojournalist, sculptor, humanitarian, philanthropist, opera singer, fashion designer, sex symbol, and so much more, was born Luigina Lollobrigida in Subiaco, Lazio, Italy on July 4, 1927. Since July is Lollobrigida’s birthday month, The Eden Magazine thought it would be most fitting to feature her this month. Lollobrigida has starred in over 60 films and worked extensively in television and theater. She was directed by such greats as John Huston, Renato Castellani, Mario Monicelli, Luigi Comencini, Carol Reed, Rene Clair, Christian-Jaque and Vittorio DeSica, sometimes acting in three different languages alongside stars like Humphrey Bogart, Alec Guinness, Gérard Philipe, Vittorio Gassman, Yul Brynner, Sean Connery, Marcello Mastroianni, Frank Sinatra, Rock Hudson, Anthony Quinn Sandra Dee, Bobby Darin, Ernest Borgnine, Anthony Franciosa, Yves Montand, Jennifer Jones, Burt Lancaster, Shelley Winters, Bob Hope, David Niven, Stephen Boyd, Peter Lawford, Telly Savalas, Phil Silvers, Errol Flynn, and so many more. Lollobrigida has made a significant contribution to the art of movie making throughout her long illustrious career, devoting her life and talent to upholding the prestige of Italian cinema and representing Italy with distinction in the rest of the world. I must highlight that Lollobrigida is also an outstanding singer and has brilliantly belted out songs in movies and on stage! She has published many photography books and has directed three documentaries, one on Fidel Castro in 1974, one on Indira Gandhi in 1976, and one which was shot on 35mm film, called The Philippines. In 1980 her photographs were displayed at the Carnavalet Museum of Paris, an event that gained her the Golden Medal of the city. The influential French newspaper “Le Monde”, wrote about her photographic works and said, “Her eye is that of a Cartier Bresson, she has talent, is full of energy and her shots contain an overwhelming force. She truly is a great artist.” As a photojournalist, Lollobrigida has photographed many notable names including Paul Newman, Salvador Dalí, Henry Kissinger, David Cassidy, Audrey Hepburn, and Ella Fitzgerald to name a select few. She knew contemporary artists such as Francesco Messina, Giacomo Manzù, Ilja Glazunov, Giorgio de Chirico, Salvador Dalí and Jacob Epstein. When they asked her to pose, she was highly flattered and agreed, but then she watched the way they worked with great attention, so she could grasp the secrets of their art and talent. Besides personally knowing these great artists, she also knew many internationally renowned figures including, Indira Gandhi, the Shah of Iran, Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Imelda Marcos, and Fidel Castro to name a select few. Over the years she continued to produce pieces of sculptures but it was while observing sculptor Giacomo Manzu, that she decided to return definitively to this art: “It was from him that I learned the humility and the passion indispensable in sculpture.” She represented Italy at the 1992 Expo in Seville with a sculpture entitled Living Together, which was a sculpture of a child riding on a great eagle. François Mitterrand, complimented Lollobrigida on her piece and awarded her the Legion of Honor for artistic merit, describing her as an “artiste de velour.” Year’s prior to that honor, in 1980, she was awarded the Honorary Member of the Florence Academy of Fine Arts. She was the third woman to receive this honor after astronomer Margherita Hack and the Nobel laureate, Rita Levi Montalcini. 8 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e July 2018

As a sculptor, Lollobrigida has produced over sixty breathtakingly beautiful pieces. In the studios and foundries of Pietrasanta, she has followed all the phases of the process, from the initial idea to the preparation, firming the clay modeling, wax finishing touches, and final bronze casting. She has personally worked on completing the most delicate parts, handling milling cutters and emery paper like a skilled worker, up to the gilding in 24-carat gold of many of her sculptures, which are based on some of the characters she has portrayed in her films. In 2003, the first great exhibition of her works was held in Moscow’s renowned Pushkin Museum, the most important center for the Fine Arts of the Russian capital, which ended with an encounter with Vladimir Putin, who warmly complimented the artist, at his Novo-Ogaryovo residence. Four thousand visitors a day have admired her works and during the weekends the numbers would rise to six thousand! This success deeply touched her. She really wasn’t expecting it. Afterward, in the fall, Lollobrigida’s sculptures were displayed at the Venice Lido for the Open 2003 Art and Cinema event and from there at the Musée de la Monnaie in Paris. Due to the great success obtained there, both by critics and the public, the French Minister of Culture, Jean Jacques Aillagon, awarded Lollobrigida with the highest international decoration for an artist: Commandeur de l'Ordre des arts e des letters. Lollobrigida has appeared on the cover of Time Magazine and is the first woman ever to have had her face on four postage stamps. Her awards and accolades are plenty and continue to grow. She won a Golden Globe, four David of Donatello awards, two Nastro D’Argento awards, six Bambi awards, a winner at the Berlin International Film Festival, Rome Film Festival, Taormina Film Festival, and Art Film Awards, the Legion of Honor by François Mitterrand, and the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. In 2002 over 500,000 people turned out to applaud and celebrate her during an important and unusual event held at Jesolo, a seaside resort beach town in Venice when a two-kilometer stretch of seafront was named, “Gina Lollobrigida Italian artist”. It’s very seldom that streets are named after someone who is still living, but then Gina Lollobrigida is a living legend! A similar event took place a year later in Subiaco, when a marble plaque was placed amid the enthusiastic acclaim of her fellow citizens, on the house where she was born. In 2007, she became Honorary Citizen of Pietrasanta, and in 2008 in Washington D.C., Lollobrigida was bestowed the Lifetime Achievement Award by NIAF, the National Italian American Foundation. In February 2018, the legend that is Gina Lollobrigida, was immortalized with a Star on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood, California. Prior to our interview, I had done endless research. I scoured books, articles, and pictures to learn as much as I could about Lollobrigida. There was so much to take in and digest. I learned that her life has been so full, rich and colorful and that she has no interest in slowing down! The interview took place on a sunny Sunday in May while I was comfortably seated at home in Los Angeles, and she was comfortably seated in her home in Rome. Technology bridged the gap for us, and we chatted for two hours. She was so gracious and sweet, so accommodating and generous with her time, and so ready and excited to share her incredibly rich stories. The only way I can describe what I came away with after our interview is that what Lollobrigida has done in 91 years, most could not do in 900 years. She is a woman who has accomplished so much and a true inspiration! For weeks, I pondered what my first question should be. And then it came to me and I thought that a good place to start would be at the very beginning. Enjoy!

Gina Lollobrigida, best known as an international film actress, but her talents goes beyond being an actress, she has also cultivated herself as a great painter, sculptures and photographer. In fact since 1959 the star, whose cinema career brought her absolutely universal celebrity, has also pursued intense research in the field of photographic art, gaining great public appreciation worldwide. In 1973 her first publication, Italia mia, won the “Nadar prize as best photography book of the year and sold more than 300 thousand copies worldwide. A powerful personality, tireless traveler, a true femme forte of our times, created a master piece of our time.

Signora Lollobrigida, please share with us a story about your childhood that is very dear to you? I would have to say that it was during the 2nd world war. That time had a huge impact on my life. It’s a moment that has stayed with me all these years and still today. We lived in Subiaco, a town in the province of Lazio. My mother always had these premonitions about things and she was always right about them. If it had not been for my mother’s premonitions, one day during the war, when bombs were dropping, we would have been killed. Let me explain. As a family we were eating outside on our terrace, my parents and my three sisters. Suddenly my mother started screaming for us to go inside. We quickly grabbed our things and ran inside just in time for the bombs to drop. Shrapnel went flying everywhere. Had we been outside on the terrace we would have been hit and either died or been severely injured. We immediately grabbed a few of our belongings. But, really how do you pack for something like that when your house has been bombed? What do you take? We grabbed a few things and each went away with one suitcase taking with only the things we really needed, but it wasn’t much. At the time, my family owned a few buildings in Subiaco but they were also bombed, so we had nowhere to go and so we went in search of a place to live. We got permission to go to Florence because my father knew some people there. But we never did make it there because it was too dangerous to make the journey. We did eventually find a house along the road where the Germans would pass, and that too was very dangerous. We really suffered during the war and went hungry. We risked our lives every day for some time. I have to say, fear really does make one crazy. War is not pretty. We hid anywhere we could. One time, we even hid in large, empty, wine barrels. That’s the kind of thing people do during the war. It’s all about survival. Eventually we took refuge in a home. Then one day we heard silence. No sounds of bombs dropping or explosions. It was surreal to hear the stillness. We slowly stepped outside and realized the American’s had come to tell us that the war was over and they had come to save us. The American soldiers asked us to evacuate the home, and it’s a good thing we did because the soldiers found a landmine in there. When I think of my childhood I feel I never really had

one. War was my childhood. Since I didn’t really have a childhood I found I had to recreate one for myself. So, I wrote a book about it called Magica Innocenza, (The Wonder Of Innocence). It took me about 15 years to write this book. I really wanted to do it. It was important for me to recreate my own childhood by writing the book and I’m very proud of it. If one does not live through the horrors of war one cannot truly understand how horrible it really is. What is one item, object, or piece of clothing, you absolutely had to bring with you when you evacuated your home during the war? The curious thing I brought with me, which I did not want to leave behind, was some film, real movie film. Please allow me to explain. The movie theater director in our town was a dear family friend. At that time, cinema was very new to all of us. We would go watch movies at the local theater. It was magical. The one thing that stayed with me after watching all the movies was Gary Cooper’s kisses. (Gina chuckles) And that’s what I wanted, his kisses… on film. I mean the actual real celluloid film footage. The projectionist cut up the film, destroying the reels of film by cutting out Gary Cooper’s kisses in his kissing scenes and then he gave them to me. Later the projectionist would take all the pieces of film that he’d cut out and he would remount and splice together all the kissing scenes. On Saturdays, we would go down to the movie theater and he’d play those scenes for my girlfriends and me. Years later when I became an actress and went to Hollywood for the first time, I actually met Gary Cooper at a dinner party where all the heads of MGM were also present. I sat next to Gary Cooper and told him, along with the heads of MGMS tudio who were seated nearby, my story of the film footage and of his kisses being cut out. Of course, we all had a good laugh. Gary Cooper and I went on to laugh about it all night. Can you imagine telling a story like that to movie producers in Hollywood that you cut up their movie? (Gina chuckles) What is your fondest memory of your hometown? It would have to be my family. We were such a loving, tight-knit family. Of course, then the war came along and changed everything. But yes, I would have to say my family is the fondest memory I have of my hometown.

How did your parents influence you in life? Career? Art? We were a very united family. We all got along and helped each other out. I will never forget that and I will never forget everything my parents and my three sisters did for me personally. We were a simple, modest, working-class family. My father worked as a carpenter and my mother raised the family and took care of us. From early on they knew I had artistic talent. They had complete trust in me and my artistic abilities, that someday I would do something with my talent and become a great artist. They helped me a lot every step of the way. Let me say that they basically worked for me in helping me to achieve my artistic goals.

get them off my back so I decided I would throw out a really high sum of money and that would make them go away. So, I blurted out a ridiculous amount of money, one million lire, and to my surprise, they actually accepted my offer! That was so much money back then. It was unheard of. I thought if they were going to pay me that much money, then it would be worth doing it. In time, and several movie roles later, I was offered the role of Bersagliera, the protagonist, in the movie Bread, Love and Dreams, directed by Vittorio De Sica. That was a role I felt was perfect for me, like it had been written for me. I felt like one with the character. I was never really “acting” or trying to act in that role because it came so naturally to me to just be that character.

I had a great voice with great vocal range, and so my parents thought I should study singing. But they didn’t know a lot about the arts and music and weren’t even sure how to pursue the right avenues for me, plus voice lessons cost a lot of money. Also, it was difficult to find the right vocal maestro because no one was sure which vocal direction I should go. I had a voice like Yma Sumac, the Peruvian singer. My vocal range was extensive. They didn’t know if I should study soprano-lirico, soprano-leggero or mezzo-soprano. In the meantime, I studied at the Accademia di Belli Arti in Rome, but once I completed my studies I wasn’t happy with just that. I wanted to satisfy all of my artistic desires and I had many artistic desires, not just singing. I wanted it all.

Working with Vittorio De Sica on Bread, Love and Dreams, is when I learned and understood what cinema really was. And I also learned it was a powerful universal art form that could create a star out of a young actress at the beginning of her career, which is what happened to me. Being a star has its responsibilities, because the people who make you a star and whom cinema depends on for its success are the fans, they are the people who go see the movies.

In 1948, I won a bursary, 1st prize, and was awarded 9,000 Lire. That was a lot of money back then, and so with that money, I was also able to help my family to eat and further my studies.

Whom do you feel has impacted your life path the most and why? My parents and my three sisters for believing in me and for helping me every step of the way to fully realize my artistic dreams.

How did you first get into the movie business? One day when I was exiting the school, someone approached me and told me I could make 1,000 Lire, a day to be an extra in a movie. The money sounded good, so I took the job. I was also asked to be a special extra, which paid a little more. But, I never took any of that work very seriously. I simply saw it as a way to make some money. The one day I was offered a role as a protagonist in a film. I immediately said no and turned it down. I didn’t want to do cinema and be an actress. I wanted to be a sculptor, a painter, a singer, but not an actress. Cinema was not in my dreams at all. Ten days after the offer, they asked me again, but this time they became a little more persistent and asked my mother to convince me to do it. Once again, I said no. I didn’t know how to 14 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e July 2018

I was always gentle and kind to the public. I always tried my best to be nice to everyone. Even if I was tired I always tried to be polite and respectful because loyal fans deserve it.

When did you pick up your first camera and what made you decide to become a photographer? When performing in front of the camera did not interest me anymore, that’s when I decided to become a photographer. Cinema was taking a different turn and I wasn’t interested in the direction in which it was going artistically. So, although I was working as an actress, I was already looking ahead and thinking of what I would be doing when I was no longer in front of the camera. After shooting about 60 films, I realized I wanted to be behind the camera to capture the things my artistic eye saw. You see, I really wanted to be a sculptor but I needed to wait for that as the timing wasn’t right. But I had a real eye and sensitivity for photography, so I started taking pictures.

I like taking pictures that are random and using the perfect light or natural light, because the thing with photography is, you can’t always ask people to pose. After a while, they start to have a dead dull look in their eyes. I traveled all around the world in search of important people to photograph, whether they were the most VIP of people or peasants on the street who didn’t have anything. I traveled with three cameras and several different lenses, as I wanted to make sure I could capture what I wanted from afar and also to get in really close. At times I took up to 700 pictures a day but I was happy and relieved when I could get even just one really good picture from a shoot. That was a real accomplishment for me to get that one great picture that I loved. And I know I have been successful in capturing my subject when that one picture that I got from the shoot really surprised the viewers without disturbing them. I have to say, I was very happy with a camera in my hand. You have photographed many notable figures around the world. Do you have a favorite photograph? I went to the Taj Mahal, in India. I was there twice because it was so beautiful I had to go back and see it again. I knew Indira Gandhi personally and she gave me a vehicle but along with the vehicle she also gave me the Chief of Police to drive me around to protect me. So, I figured if I had a vehicle and a police escort to drive me around, then I was going to take advantage of it. It was nighttime. I didn’t want to stay indoors. I’m a very curious person and let’s just say I was curious being in India. There was so much to see and discover. And so I thought what am I going to do now? I don’t want to go to sleep? So, I decided I was going to take my camera and go out to photograph. Now remember it was dark, and no one was out at that hour especially not someone like me. But I had this vehicle and this police escort and so we went out and drove around. That’s when I came upon a most beautiful sheik sitting on the side of the road. He was selling tomatoes. The look on this man's face was so amazing. It really captured me. He had this look on his face of desire and yet at the same time this look of fear in his eyes, for the fact that I was with the police. So it was basically a look of sheer terror that his life could be at risk and of desire that he was looking at me, Gina Lollobrigida, a woman. That's what I saw in his face and that is what I captured. It was so powerful. Also, because it was dark he was only slightly illuminated and the lighting was so beautiful. It’s my favorite picture. Henry Alfred Kissinger photography by Gina Lollobrigida 15 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e July 2018

When I shoot, I shoot the soul, the character of a “people” or a nation. I want to see how they are all different. Of course all photographers see their subject differently. The years I actively pursued photography, I must say, they were the most beautiful years of my life. Through my photography, I traveled all over the world, met so many people, and was invited to so many wonderful places. Of all the places you visited, please tell us the country or city you enjoyed the most and why? I would have to say India. India really cast a spell on me and captivated me. I love that country. If you had the opportunity to shoot a feature film today, and if you could choose one of your past leading men, whom would you choose to be your co-star and why? I have worked with so many great actors, Sean Connery, Marcello Mastroianni, in two films, Anthony Quinn, so many, and they were all wonderful, but I think I would choose a director rather than an actor. Truthfully, the only person I would want to work with today is director Steven Spielberg. I no longer do cinema or work as an actress but if I had a chance to work with Spielberg I would do it! Most directors have a short film life in that only a few break out and are able to direct different genres. Spielberg is one director who has managed to work in different genres very successfully. He covers lots of subjects in his movies. He’s not just one kind of storyteller, he is grand! In his movie Saving Private Ryan, he manages to capture and show us the fear on the faces of the soldiers like no one has ever done before. One time I was supposed to meet Spielberg in Hollywood to do a shoot with him but the timing never worked out. Another time he was staying in the same hotel and I didn’t know until after the fact. It happened again in Italy when I was in Florence that he was in the same hotel but again I never knew. I guess destiny does not want us to meet. Over the years I have observed him a lot in television interviews, photographs, articles, and I even made a portrait of him. He’s actually in my art, so therefore, he lives in my art. I think he’d be surprised to know that. The thing you are most passionate about is your work as a sculptor. How do you choose your subjects? My subjects are classic yet modern. I create them thinking 16 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e July 2018

about the images I have stored in my mind of the many things I have seen in my travels, things that happen every day in families' daily life and in the streets of the places I visited. I’m a very sensitive person and I have a great eye for the important details of life and of course that carries over in my work as a sculptor. I get my marble from Pietrasanta (Holy Rock), which has been around for centuries. It’s located three to four hours away from Rome by car. Sculptors from all over the world go there to get their marble. It’s the best in the world. The owner knows me and picks out the marble. He personally chooses it for me. His workers also know me very well and if they find a great piece of marble they will let me know and gift it to me because they know my work and what the end result will be. So I would say, I’m a little spoiled. For my work I have to use a special kind of marble to get the result I am looking for. It has to be a very hard marble. And because it’s hard, I have several people, the pros, start on the slab for me. They get it ready so that I can go in to take over and create my piece. Once I take over, from there on in, I take care of every tiny detail myself right up until the final completion of the piece. With regards to technique, I have been told I have a masculine hand/touch when I sculpt which is a real compliment. It refers to the end result. To see the piece and think it was done by a masculine hand. When it comes to the fine details, however, I work with a very delicate touch, almost like the hand of a jeweler with a lot of precision. My pieces have a lot of detail. Bronze, on the other hand, is much softer to work with. When I made the Marilyn Monroe sculpture in bronze, I did that all by myself from beginning to end. Is there a city or country where you’ve not yet exhibited your sculptures and where you’d like to in the near future? I have always wanted to do an exhibition of my sculptures in New York or Los Angeles but this has not yet happened, but I’m not going to give up. I’ve had exhibitions in Russia, Tokyo, Asia, Qatar, Africa, all over Europe, practically all over the world, but not America. I want to bring my sculptures to America. That is my goal. Please tell us the charities that are dearest to you? There are several. I am very involved with charities and have been for many years, long before it became fashionable for celebrities to attach their names to causes.

The sculpture of Esmeralda, almost 6 meter tall made in 2000 appeared in Pietrasanta, Tuscany, in the framework of the exhibition, held from September 20 to November 16, 2008. Near Pietrasanta “holy stone” is located quarry, which produces the world famous marble “Statuario”. Here, in Pietrasanta is the workshop of the actress. Esmeralda The work has undergone chasing, patination and gilding. The patina & gilding must be checked every time the sculpture, weighing about 4,000 kilos, is moved because the ropes used to lift it, inevitably damage the surface in some points.

Most recently I was invited to be President of the prestigious initiative for women who are victims of violence, Progetto Valigia di Salvataggio dell’Associazione Salvamamme. I am also an active supporter of Italian and Italian American causes like NIAF, National Italian American Foundation, and in 2013 I sold my jewelry collection and donated nearly $5million from the sale to benefit stem cell therapy research. You are the first woman to be featured on 4 postage stamps: actress, photographer, sculptor and humanitarian. What does this mean to you?

The biggest award I ever received in my life was being asked to have my image placed on four postage stamps. It’s incredible. I was the first woman ever to have had this honor. The public only knows me as an actress and not for some of the other things I have done, like the fact that I’m a sculptor. Each of the four stamps captures a different face of Gina, a different time, a different part of me and of what I have accomplished. As I said before, I always wanted to be a sculptor, but to become an accomplished sculptor takes a really long time. 21 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e July 2018

So I understand that for many years, not everyone knew there was this other side of me. But, when people see my sculptures they come up to me and tell me they thought they knew me before, but only since seeing my sculptures, do they finally know the real Gina. Let’s not forget, when you’re an actress, you are playing a character, a role, and sometimes the public gets confused about you and the character, the two can blend together making it hard to separate the real you from the character you play. But when you see my sculptures, which I created with my own hands, that’s when you really learn about me, and who I really am. There are a lot of firsts in your life. You were also the first woman to be featured on the cover of Time Magazine. Please tell us about it. In 1954 I had the honor of being the first woman featured on the cover of Time Magazine which was a really big deal as you can imagine. When Time held a party in the United States for all the people who’d been featured on the cover, I attended and was accompanied by none other than the director of Time Magazine and seated at the place of honor. Robert Kennedy, who had also been featured on the cover, was also present and seated across the table. I did not know him personally but I really wanted to take a picture of him. The only problem was that I didn’t have my camera. I asked a man to borrow his camera and so with someone else’s camera I went ahead and took a picture of Robert Kennedy. I then asked that person to please send me a copy of the picture. Well, I never did get the picture of Robert Kennedy. Mother Teresa of Calcutta wrote the foreword in your book The Wonder of Innocence, could you please elaborate? Mother Teresa wrote the foreword in my book but you will note when you pick up a copy of it that you will find some typos in what she wrote. The book was edited but I did not have the courage, nor did I want to change or edit the words of Mother Teresa. Her English was not perfect and I could have corrected it but I felt it was wrong to touch her sacred words. It was an honor for me to have had her write in my book and it was going to stay exactly as she penned it. How many languages do you speak? I speak Italian, French, and English fluently. I studied English but the French language came to me very naturally. I’m very proud to say I have always dubbed my own films in English. Dubbing can massacre a performance, so I always wanted to make sure I dubbed myself. If 24 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e July 2018

a movie was shot in English I would recite in English and then later dub myself in Italian, or if it needed to be in French I would speak French. This was all happening at a time when most Italian actresses were not able to recite in English or dub themselves. I am very proud of myself for having done this because an actor has to be responsible for his/her work. I have always been a real pro and I believe that is why I’ve had the career I had. Being fluent in English and French, as well as being able to dub myself was a big part of that success. I was not going to let anyone ruin the film or my part in the film. You are also a Fashion Designer, at what point did you realize you had a gift for designing clothes? I love fashion and love to design. But I would like to add that I not only know how to be creative, I know the technical side too. I know how to sew and cut fabric like a designer or seamstress in a high-end fashion house. I have that kind of precision and skill. No one ever taught me how to do it. I learned it on my own. It came naturally to me. It’s not even a question of how and why I know, because I feel if you know how to design and you are an artist you can create fashion. It’s another art form. I have designed many of my own dresses and some even for the movies I was in. I’m looking forward to putting together a book that will include images of all the outfits I made. I never searched out work as a fashion designer, film directors knew of my talent and knew I enjoyed doing it so they would ask me to create. I’ll give you an example. While working on set, sometimes scenes would be added that were not scripted and sometimes that meant having to add a new outfit for my character so they would call on me to help out. And I would. But I didn’t want to take any additional credit for doing it. I did it because I enjoyed doing it and I was good at it. I have a great imagination and created some amazing pieces. There were times they’d let me pick out beautiful old costumes that were once used in other movies and I’d modify them and produce some incredible new pieces. I currently have all of the outfits I created. Tell us about the time you sang so brilliantly in the film Beautiful But Dangerous. As I said before, I’m a good singer but I didn’t put my focus on becoming a singer. I was naturally gifted but I did not have a lot of formal vocal training. The director of the movie, Robert Z. Leonard, knew I could sing so he said let's have your character sing the song Vissi d’arte,

from Tosca. I told him he was crazy. But he insisted. I couldn’t believe he wanted me to sing such a difficult piece. He managed to convince me and I finally agreed. Training my voice to do the song was very difficult on my vocal chords. It was very strenuous and my voice got really sore. But I persevered. I went to Teatro del Opera to record. A 50-piece orchestra with all the members ready to get to work, was seated there waiting to begin. I was quite ashamed to be in their presence because they were all looking at me like what does she think she’s going to do in here, sing Vissi d’arte, from Tosca? I was so embarrassed. The great opera singer Mario del Monaco had already recorded his piece and I thought to myself, what am I doing in here? But then with courage, I got it together and told myself I was going to sing it even if the orchestra laughed at me. And I did. I did it all in one take with no stops. When it was over the orchestra barely waited for me to finish as they all erupted in applause. And that’s the take they used in the movie. It’s my first and only take we did and I sang it straight through. When my friend Maria Callas saw the movie, she asked me if it was really my voice, and I proudly said yes.

with Federico Fellini

Federico Fellini was a huge fan of yours, but you never worked with him. Please tell us why? I really wanted to work with Fellini in La Dolce Vita but my husband, who was my manager at the time, never gave me the script because he didn’t like it. I had no knowledge of this. You see Fellini improvised a lot of his movies, so the script was never quite complete. Fellini was an artist who didn’t work like other directors who had all the fine details and dialogue precisely mapped out and set in stone beforehand. Fellini wanted me to be in the movie, I never did read the script, and the part eventually went to another actress. While all this was happening, of course, Fellini didn’t know the truth behind my not doing the part. But he must have wondered why I didn’t want to do it and why I wasn’t giving him a response. Every time Fellini saw me he would stop and stare at me as if he was admiring a painting and he would tell me over and over again that I was beautiful. I have to say I was a little embarrassed. In time I found out about what happened with the script and I told Fellini the truth. Of course, he completely understood and didn’t take it personally.

I did go on to take some wonderful photographs of Fellini. He signed them with a wonderful inscription, “Non finisci mai di stupirmi" (You never cease to amaze me). He wrote these words because when I was running around doing my photography, I wouldn’t go out looking like Gina, I would go out in full disguise. One day I showed up at the Coliseum, where Fellini was shooting a movie. I had no makeup, wearing a hat, and in full disguise. I walked up to Fellini. At first he didn’t know it was me, but then he figured it out. I had gone there to photograph the Coliseum because Fellini had illuminated the entire Coliseum with so many lights. All the lights you could possibly ever imagine. He brought them in from all over Europe just to illuminate it and it was quite a site to see. Of course I could never have captured the Coliseum like that with regular sunlight so I went there to take advantage of those lights and the fact that it was Fellini’s set. The pictures I took are truly magnificent. Do you have any pets? I have a dog. I have always loved dogs and especially German shepherds. Dogs relax me. They always have. They need a lot of love but they give so much love back to you in return. They need way more love and affection than humans and they suffer if they don’t have an owner. It’s wonderful to have a dog. They are so civil and loyal.

low your own instincts. When I see girls who are trying to emulate or copy others, I see that they are making a big mistake. You must be yourself. Don’t try to be like anyone because you are more interesting just being yourself. Follow your own path, and do not accept any compromises ever and remember that you have the power and you can always say no! And I would also say that modesty is a great virtue. I would tell them also to be modest. Please tell our readers what a day in the life of Gina Lollobrigida looks like? I have a very active life. That is what I will say. (Gina chuckles) Every day is a different day. It changes. I receive a lot of invitations. Even though I no longer work as an actress, I’m invited to so many things related to my acting career like interviews, festivals, special appearances and so much more. It keeps me very busy. Do you have any parting words you’d like to share in this interview? I have always been very curious and thirsty for life. I always wanted to live life, to do everything and learn all there was to learn and study and I like to analyze everything in great depth.

I’ve had a lot of dogs over the course of my lifetime and at one point, I even had four dogs living in my house, all at the same time.

I will work and create art until I die. And as a sculptor, my only dream is to bring my sculptures to Los Angeles or New York at a large-scale exhibition!

In Germany, they knew I liked German shepherds, and they would gift them to me. In the 1960’s I had this very special dog that was very dear to me, a German shepherd that was actually once part of the German Police. He was the best. At one point he even worked in cinema and got paid very well. To give you an idea of how much money he was earning, I was being paid 1,000 Lire a day and he was getting 300 Lire. That was a lot of money back then!

You are a powerhouse example, inspiration, and role model for so many people all over the world from different countries and cultures, please tell us how you feel about this praise and recognition? I am honored that I have touched so many people through my art and my work. There are still so many projects I would like to complete and share with the world. What advice would you give to young women today? The advice I would give young women today is to be yourself, to not be anyone else but yourself and to always fol-

On June, 4th, our very own, Contributing Editor, Dina Morrone, won the Valley Theatre Award for Best One Person Show, The Italian In Me, which had been staged at Theatre West as part of the Portraits Solo Series. The 4th Annual Valley Theater Awards were held at the Colony Theatre in Burbank, CA where Theatre West also took home the big prize of the night for Best Play, The Night Forlorn or Waitin' On Godsford written by Steve Nevil and directed by Arden Lewis. Best Featured Actress award went to June Schreiner for her part in The Night Forlorn or Waitin' On Godsford.

In The Italian in Me, a doe-eyed aspiring actress from Canada – who has been raised on a heaping dose of old-fashioned values and Roman Catholic guilt – upends her life by moving to Italy. With her, she brings a tiny bit of cash and grandiose dreams of working in Italian Cinema. Once in Rome, she quickly discovers that things in the Eternal City are not quite as holy or as romantic as she had imagined. Her days are filled with countless fruitless encounters with perverts, priests, producers and statues of Saints in old churches, to whom she pleads for help and to show her a sign. But help does not come. Not even a chance siting of the Pope at St. Peter’s brings her any closer to her dream. When all hope seems lost, she meets the cinematic Maestro himself, Federico Fellini at Cinecitta’ Studios for what turns out to be a very “illuminating” encounter, but will it be the ‘Dolce Vita’ she was searching for? The show, which I had the pleasure of seeing twice, is written and performed by Dina. The inspiration for the show came from her time she spent working in Rome as an Actress, TV Host, Model, and Voice Over Artist. The centerpiece of the show is based on her actual encounter with Federico Fellini at Cinecitta’ Film Studios. Gina Lollobrigida was a dear friend of the Maestro. In fact, when Dina interviewed Gina she made sure to ask about Fellini and Gina shared some wonderful stories about her friendship. Gina is a part of Italian Cinema Gold, of a different time, of La Dolce Vita, just like Fellini. It seems only fitting that in this month which we feature Gina Lollobrigida we also share the news of Dina's win, after all, her solo show takes place in the Eternal City, and her character in the play mentions none other than... Gina Lollobrigida! The Italian In Me has been a passion project of Dina's. What she loves about the show is that every time she performs it she not only takes the audience on a journey to the cobblestone streets of Rome, but she takes herself back there too and gets to relive some of her magical moments.

THE WAY I SEE IT

Where

Have All The Flowers Gone?

By Joe Santos, Jr.

“Where have all the flowers gone? Long time passing. Where have all the flowers gone? Long time ago…” ~Pete Seeger How do we bring them back? Do most even notice they’re gone? I do. Walking through an airport recently I looked over at the long lines, the chaos, the lack of service, pleasantries or warm greetings and I thought, where have they gone? When I was a kid, traveling was exciting, glamorous. The terminals were peppered with elegant lounges, smart cafes and all sorts of people to answer questions and or help you to your gate. Trips were well planned. We were well dressed, well mannered and our “baggage" was luggage, not toys, stuffed animals, soiled pillows, car seats and strollers. Our Parents were organized and present and were happy to have us in their company. The “stewardesses” (as they were called then) were pleasant, pretty, coifed and elegantly uniformed. They greeted passengers with warm smiles. Music played in the cabin, they were happy to take one’s coat, to help with extra bags, or tuck you into your seat with a pillow and or a blanket. It was a pleasure for them. At least they made it seem so. I remember them being so attentive and friendly to my Brother and me. Asking us questions, telling us about the flight, the airplane, even introducing us to the pilot and co-pilot and showing us the cockpit. 38 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COMe July 2018

with Joe Santos, Jr.

They pointed out interesting things to see out the window during the flight such as The Grand Canyon or Hoover Dam, Eiffel Tower and London Bridge. They’d offer us soft drinks, magazines, board games and coloring books or whatever they thought could occupy us during a long flight. I remember my Parents being served cocktails and Hors D’oeuvres and believe it or not dinner on board included Caviar and Lobster. Good luck scoring a bag of pretzels today! Traveling Animals (pets) were placed in crates with food and water and put in a separate part of the plane. We grew up with family pets and they did travel with us on occasion. They always arrived safely, happy and healthy. It’s interesting to me that they stopped serving peanuts on airplanes because of passengers with “allergies”. Trust me, I know more people that are allergic to animals' dander and fur than peanuts yet they give them seats. Now “service animals” have service animals! Go figure. How and when did we stop caring? Have we become so desensitized as a society that we don’t even notice? Are we so afraid to speak up, stand up that we simply shut up? I recently went out to dinner in Beverly Hills with my best friend since childhood. We were raised with the same principles of life. As kids our Parents treated us to fine dining in the best restaurants whether in New York or LA or different parts of the world. We were encouraged to at least try new things. Nine out of ten were enjoyed. We were taught to order our own food and to be respectful of our table, it’s setting, the waiters and the patrons. Oh boy. Not the case with the people in the booth next to ours. We are talking about a Mother, a Father a Nanny, an 8-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl. My friend and I ordered a couple of Grey Goose Martinis and oh so glad we did!!! The evening came complete with entertainment. It started with us over-hearing the Parents’ bickering (we immediately stopped our conversation and tuned right into theirs) the wife was nagging her husband about eating too much bread and that he should stick to a salad and a protein for his entree’. Mind you, the guy was not out of shape in any way. She, of course, ordered Salmon with no oil or salt and steamed spinach with lemon. She looked as if she should have had the bread. The kids were on iPads the whole time and the Nanny was trying to order the meals for the kids who wanted “chicken fingers”, “french fries”, “ranch dressing”, “apple-sauce”, “macaroni and cheese” and “frankfurters”! This was at an upscale ITALIAN restaurant. Ain’t happening kid! They settled on Spaghetti with butter and parmesan cheese but only after 20 minutes of the Mother berating the poor waiter about not

having the certain food items her children wanted and suggesting they alter the menu in the future to accommodate her children's needs "after all we are regular customers" as well as negotiating with her crying and screaming children, ignoring a Nanny hiding behind a menu and sneering at a Father silent, disengaged but enjoying a love affair with the bread basket. Who’s to blame for the world’s changes? Society’s demise? Lack of Parenting? Entitlement issues, food issues, body dysmorphia, the lack of communication, conversation, interest in one another! How did we lose sight? Don’t we care about our neighborhoods anymore? What about neighboring neighborhoods? What about neighbors?? All the talk about “making something or other great again”…all the talk. When do we take on that responsibility? When we no longer have the fight or the right? Well, I think it’s time to wake up and stand up. Bring back the “flowers" we’ve lost. Speak gently and kindly to each other rather than at each other. Remember your manners and if you were never taught any then go learn some and fast! Bring back Parents and Parenting. "Children should be seen and not heard” came from a real place! Praise our teachers and schools and give them back their courage and power to influence, mold and grow our children together into respectable, responsible, smart and decent human beings. Maybe it’s a start. It's definitely worth a try. If we are lucky enough to bring back the flowers in life that were once so bright, beautiful and fragrant then maybe we will once again remember to water them and stop to smell them.

Sloan

WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT

Bella Sloan Bella- Metaphysician was born with Psychic-Mediumship abilities, and began her professional career on the streets of Toronto, Canada, when she was 17 years old working with missing and exploited children. Sloan was adopted into a well-established and business-minded family which allowed her temporary stability, opportunity and experience. People ask sloan all the time “When did you know you had this ability? the response is always the same you are born with it and its just like looking out of your eyes and seeing the sky - when did you know you could see? For Sloan her abilities weren’t questioned she never second guessed them or even thought their was anything unusual about it, it was Sloan being sloan authentic. Throughout her childhood Sloan could see, Clairvoyant, hear,Clairaudient and feel, Clairsentient. Her parents thought it was a stage, since it started as soon as Sloan could speak, as She grew older her speaking about “these things” was seen as a problem for those around her which is often the case with psychic children unless the family is aware and fostered these abilities. Naturally rebellious and un-apologetic Sloan's experiences caused even more tension within an already extremely difficult childhood. Early on Sloan was able to harness the energy and follow her unique experience and way of exploring the paranormal world that was exploding into her existence. Learning to articulate nightly visits by other worldly beings and the spirits of those people who had crossed over. This was how Sloan began to develop her ability to act as a conduit and to speak the different frequencies that exist around us. Astrology was introduced to Sloan via a charm necklace from a cousin in England, by the age of seven, and her lifelong passion for astrology began. Sloan’s world expanded and became enmeshed with metaphysical information on all psychic levels. Sometimes Children come into homes with parents that don't understand them, for the souls experience and as a result they have unusual stresses put onto them both physically emotionally and mentally. "I remember the day so clearly when I put on my shoes and walked out the front door to play I was 6 or so, I decided to take a different route and go through one of the massive parks in Toronto full of beautiful lush trees and wildly untamed leaf covered Wooded trails. I'd run for hours and no one came looking I think my parents were glad to get a break and I learned right then that it was my responsibility to act as a clear channel for information coming trough me and in order to do that I had to shift my vibration and think from the souls perspective. To hear the information directly, I had to stop defending myself trying to get approval and squashing my natural self expression. That day 46 years ago changed my life, I've often said running-hiking saved my life and gave me the foundation to build a healing practice that combined all the expressions needed to move energy and transform the etheric, physical, mental and emotional bodies. Developing this concept as a kid gave me great insight into how the human auric vibration works and how we become stuck and stagnant and what is needed in an individual way to clear the trauma blocks . They key is detachement from taking peoples behaviors and responses personally."

41 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e July 2018

At 14 Sloan ran away from home and ended up on the streets, the homeless teen found herself in the strip clubs. This is when Sloan’s real Psychic life opened up. “For me being underaged and needing to survive I did what I had to do, I had a body and I could read people intuitively so working in the strip clubs became natural for me at that time in my life. It started with me reading for the girls and the people in their immediate world strippers, prostitutes, male and female, gamblers, and every runaway homeless kid, that heard I was a Psychic Medium. It was really word of mouth. I began doing readings for cash cigarettes and hair bleach, I didn't have a formal office so reading clients was wherever I was, whoever they were. During this phase of my work these clients never asked about their future, or the past, it occurred to me they didn’t really expect to have a future, questions were literally about the next couple of hours in their life, a moment to moment snapshot from a Psychic-Medium . They literally lived in that moment. Amazing! As I began to see the same energetic pattern expressions which furthered my understanding into the deep seated damage childhood trauma causes. “ “Our life experience and the way we continue to pattern our thoughts and beliefs will either destroy us or force us to deal with the blocks and traumas that need to be released in order to find our unique individual potential as a soul housed within the human being”. “We aren’t really here to play we all have work to do a purpose” "My own trauma caught up with me I went briefly into drugs and alcohol, while working in Miami and found myself at a new club with a very aggressive Cuban Club owner who thought I'd make a nice profit for him, and insisted I stay with him, I was basically stopped from leaving, It took me a month to get away from him and end that part of my life." Sloan was now 20 years old and living in Los Angeles and was immediately hired in a one of a kind inventive shelter program, “Children of the Night” and Dr Lois Lee who recognized her abilities to communicate using Psychic Mediumship and Astrology with underage sexually exploited children, gay teens and transgender, which was the majority of the Shelter population. During this time Sloan was also appearing on TV Shows where her clients and their true testimonial’s were used for re-enactments on the very first several “Psychic Friends Network", infomercials, from there her life 42 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COMe July 2018

Simpler Summer

44 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e July 2018

By Nancy E. Yearout

Summer has arrived, bringing us warm sunny days to spend any way we choose. This is the time of year when we go outside and enjoy events such as swimming, boating, beaching it, golfing, tennis, baseball and more. What do you want your summer to be like this year? Where would you like to go? Or would you rather stay at home with your feet propped up and relax? Often the simpler days of summer are the most unforgettable. Lazy days when you don’t have to get out of bed at any time and can lay there listening to the sounds of the morning. There’s something about sipping a a cold glass of iced tea on a hot summer afternoon with nowhere to be. Many of us are rushing to our planned summer destination, bigger and better than last year, but maybe we should just stop! Breathe and look and around. When you slow down to a lazy summer pace you begin to capture a glimpse of a time forgotten. A simpler time when kids played with other kids on their street and folks waived at each other as they passed by. It is true that life is more complicated these days and people aren’t as friendly as they once were, but you can be part of the change in thinking. A new mindset that brings the good and friendly way back into our lives. What if you stayed home this year and celebrated summer in your own neighborhood? Your kids may not think it’s too exciting at first but if you portray the experience as interesting and fun, your loved ones may experience the best summer of their lives! There is so much to do in the summertime in your own neighborhood and so many people to meet. There are many interesting and knowledgeable people in your own neighborhood that would enjoy meeting you. You never know when you may be needed or by chance need a friend. Here are a few ideas. 1. Take a walk first thing in the morning, listen to the sounds of the new day, enjoy the morning dew. 2. Find the local Ice-cream or Frozen Yogurt Shop and patronize it often. 3. Ride your bike, preferably with a friend. 4. Don’t heat up the kitchen- Barbecue often! 5. Sit outside at night with the moon and the stars. 6. Take in a matinée at the local theatre. 7. Find your community pool and swim! 8. Visit your local park or favorite spot and have a picnic. 9. Go to the Drive in Theatre, (if you are lucky enough

to have one) 10. Sit in the lounge chair, hammock or under a tree and read a good book. 11. Go to your local library and browse for new interesting reads. 12. Check out your local farmers market for fresh vegetables and fruit. 13. Create a Vision Board of what you want to achieve in the next six months, Business/Pleasure. 14. Plant a small garden and watch it grow. (an herb garden in the window) 15. Eat watermelon often and attend the local county/ state fair. It is not about the destination when you take a summer vacation, it’s about who you are with. The most memorable times in life are often the simpler times spent with family and friends sitting around sharing stories. It doesn’t matter where you are this summer, wherever you end up you can create the best summer ever for you and yours.

The Keys to the Secret of Life

46 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e July 2018

By Linda & Charlie Bloom

There is an old Buddhist story about a rich man who owned a lot of property who wanted to drink crystal clear water. One day he gathered his workers to set out for that part of his land where he thought it likely that there would be water. When they began to dig, sure enough, at ten feet they hit water. The man was overjoyed and he drank the water. In about three days, the well ran dry. So they went to another part of the land and dug another well. Sure enough they hit water again at ten feet down. This well’s sulfur content caused an unpleasant odor. The man moved on to dig another. This time the water came in a trickle. And so the man continued through out his life going from place to place digging ten-foot wells, never really being nourished. He died unfulfilled. Ironically, the water that the man sought would have been available almost anywhere if only he had dug a hundred feet down. The man had only to continue digging to find the rich flowing stream that he craved. We live in a time where many people’s concept of relationship is like the ten-foot wells. Because there are so many available alternatives, we may feel impatience in our desire to have it all. When a relationship gets difficult, we seek another one or distract ourselves. Our culture supports us in the notion that if things get too complex, we should move on to someone else. It is only through going more deeply into our relationships that we receive the waters that truly nourish. Committing to loving each other without losing ourselves is every couple’s task. Balancing the commitment to self and other is one of the hardest things we do in a long-term partnership, requiring on-going calibration. The challenge is to cultivate the ability to love another while simultaneously honoring our own truth.

47 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e July 2018

Considering Both Self and Other Many of us find it easy to meet the needs of others, adept at giving love but have trouble receiving. Others are preoccupied with their own desires. Often those with opposite tendencies attract each other. Unable to effectively negotiate these differences, the initial promise of our relationship may deteriorate into despair or separation. This scenario is common, yet few of us possess the tools necessary to meet this challenge. Everyone deserves a good relationship, and living in a relationship that is unfulfilling takes a terrible toll on one’s self-esteem. Over months of irritation, a person may start to wonder if there is something defective about him or her-self, and whether this is all they deserve. By digging deeper, we are choosing to believe that we have the power to improve the relationship. What is required is to design a whole new scale of commitment. Renewed commitment to the marriage must be coupled with a fierce commitment to ones own well-being or it won’t work. Consulting with a professional or friend can give us ideas of how to practice compassionate selfcare. Regular fitness, cultivating mindfulness and making friends with people outside our "couple friends", gradually, over many months will begin to reestablish a sense of self. The care of other can take many forms. Showing up in a more meaningful way with our partner, stretching into their world, showing more interest in their life, and learning how to love them in the way they want to be loved are examples of digging down to the sweet water that nourishes. With the practices of forgiveness, looking through the eyes of gratitude, and non-attachment, we became less reactive. By focusing on what our partner is rather than what (s)he isn’t, affection begins to seep back in. With this rediscovered sense of self, and deeper appreciation of who our partner is, we may realize that we have been committed to the relationship all along. When both partners are engaged in this effort, we learn that so much more is available. Learning from Successful Couples Ken Keyes says the secret of life is “sticking with it.” Those who continued to stick with the process of co-creating their partnership into a nourishing process know that it is

not possible without some struggle. I have heard from so many successful couples how glad they are that they didn’t give up and leave the relationship. Many report that they were tempted to quit when serious breakdowns occurred. By continuing to dig deep, the journey of change and growth in consciousness, although rigorous at first, eventually became exhilarating, and fulfilling. They are so grateful to themselves for hanging in there, and for their partner who was willing to take the journey with them, the journey of sacred partnership.

Walking Away With Grace photo courtesy www.infashionwithyou.com/

When we leave a situation or relationship we can chose to leave gracefully and without resentment. We do this by simultaneously honouring what is really right for us and without diminishing the other party. There is a popular saying these days which goes something like: “You don’t have to stay in a toxic relationship; walk away and don’t look back.” While I agree wholeheartedly with the main point of this, that toxic relationships are definitely not in our best interests, what I tend to find is that some people take this idea to the extreme and often leave an unhealthy relationship or situation fuelled with anger, resentment, blame and lots of residual conflict in their energy system. This often then gets vented to their friends and family in order to try and discharge their own toxic energy from their energy field. Our Ego feeds off such anger and blaming and feels a need to continually justify its sense of “rightness” through your actions and choices. However, that isn’t the real you that needed to walk away. The real you was listening to your heart not your Ego and its often distorted sense of what you need. Endings and separations don’t have to go this way. We can leave a situation, relationship or job with grace instead. If we take the time to go inside and find out what our truth is and what we really need at this point in our lives, and then act in accordance with our truth and needs, then we exit a situation with dignity, poise and love. I recently walked away from a professional training program. After a few months I realised it simply wasn’t the right program or teacher for me. So I left. With gratitude for what I had experienced and learned, and for my teacher despite the fact that neither were the right path for me to continue on. I left with genuine heartfelt thanks for the positive experiences and made no attempt to critique or even describe the ways in which the course and teacher weren’t simply right for me. Once I had made the decision and executed it with compassion and grace I felt an enormous sense of relief and happiness which has continued to flow through me since. Contrast this to my previous attempts to leave a situation or relationship where I have been wracked with anger, resentment and conflict for weeks or sometimes months afterwards. The reason for such a big shift was this: I had finally dug

deep enough inside to find out what I needed, and when I looked at my needs in comparison to what the course and teacher was providing I saw an insurmountable gap. I also knew that no amount of complaining was going to change this fact or help me, and so I left. In other words: I took responsibility for meeting my needs rather than demanding that others do so. I read somewhere recently that a sign of spiritual maturity is to be able to do just that: To walk away from something that isn’t right for you and to do so with grace, ease and love. Complaints, criticism, or endless analysis of what was wrong with the other person or situation really do not serve us. They only serve to try to fill-up our sense of lack inside around our own worthiness and that never, ever works. When our energy is outwardly directed at others rather than our true needs then all we do is deplete ourselves; it quite literally is a waste of our energy. On this occasion, because I had made a clear and clean decision which felt deeply right for me and I acted on it gracefully and with gratitude I experienced no depletion of energy. In fact, quite the opposite. Instead I was filled with new energy to now take forward in a direction that was right for me. Try it next time you need to walk away and give yourself the gift of joy and inner peace through grace.

LOOKING GOOD & FEELING GREAT

The Importance of Everyday Activism By Margaret Tomaszewicz

52 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e July 2018

53 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e July 2018

We Won! On June 1 2018, the California Senate passed the California Cruelty-Free Act (SB1249). The state is now very close to becoming the first state in the U.S. to ban all sales of animal-tested cosmetics. The bill is now moving to the Assembly where it is predicted to pass and then to be signed by the Governor. The bill was sponsored by Senator Galgiani , the Physicians Committee and Social Compassion in Legislation. SB1249 is going to make it unlawful for any cosmetics manufacturer to import into, or sell any cosmetics in California if the final product or any component of said product was tested on animals. Once signed, the law will become effective January 1, 2020. After the vote, senator Galgiani stated “ I appreciate that Democratic and Republican Senators came together to move this important policy forward. Looking your best shouldn’t have to come at the expense of harming animals with painful eye and skin tests”.

Simple everyday activism can overcome corporate greed and make real changes that are good for us, our children, animals and the planet. To do that we must not be afraid to speak up for what we believe. The PETA website posts “Action alerts” where you can see all its’ sponsored petitions which we can sign and support. It is important for us as caring human beings to continue to speak out for the helpless animals that cannot speak for themselves. There are so many great ways to do this including buying cruelty- free products and non-leather clothing or volunteering at the local pet shelter to adopting a pet from one. And that will make us definitely feel great! To your health!

f

I know we can all agree on that. The passing of this bill is a huge step not only for California but also for the whole country because as the state with the largest population and economy, if California bans the sale of cosmetics tested on animals, manufacturers will have no choice but to stop testing on animals to sell cosmetics in the entire United States. This bill has also many other benefits. It will be good for business as more people demand cruelty-free products. It makes cosmetics safer because non-animal testing methods for skin allergy like the use of 3-D tissue structure produced from human cells perform better and are more accurate.

There are still animals that are used in medical testing and many more that face cruel abuse for the purpose of socalled entertainment for humans or die from abuse.

How to Stop Technology from Robbing Humanity By Tara-jenelle Walsch

Siri? How do I feel today?” “Alexa, text a loving birthday message to my mother.” If the thought of having a computer understand your emotions sounds more far-fetched than a sci-fi movie, you might want to sit down. As wildly futuristic as it seems, virtual assistants are being created to be more human because, according to the general consensus of technology researchers today, adding emotional sensing to personal electronics will “improve” our lives. Word on the street is that virtual assistants with real-time emotions are now being created. They are programmed to input different degrees of user emotions to have on file as a scale for future emotional indicators. Alexa, for instance, will soon have the ability to recognize user emotions through the tone of their voice, then analyze those emotions and modify its behavior accordingly. Apple recently acquired a start-up called Emotient that uses artificial intelligence to read and replicate human emotions through automatic facial expression analysis. More tech firms are creating products with a voice companion to fulfill some of their users' emotional needs. And there’s an interface being created in China that’s programmed to keep a conversation going for as long as possible so that a user does not feel alone. Ahhh, the simple life—a phrase used once upon a time and now lost in translation. Life as we knew it is increasingly becoming a thing of the past and technology is being donned as the great and powerful Oz, delivering answers to any question on a dime. It’s doused with rabbit holes, pulling us into a fast-paced spell and away from real life. Most of the time we get so sucked in that we’re unaware of the distraction entirely, and drift off into another world of our own. And there are also occasions when we know we’ve “left the building,” yet we electively bury ourselves within it rather than fight our way out. We gladly “pay no attention to the man behind the curtain” and integrate on-going technological advances into our life without resistance because of the instant gratification and convenience they offer us. Yet even so, for most of us, the thought of technology serving as emotional companionship is outright heartbreaking. What happened to having fellow human beings as our emotional companions? Something has shifted among us. There is a new air of unavailability among humanity. If we’re not careful, technology has the means to create an emotionally distant world. You may have noticed that it’s already starting. One of the side-effects of the accelerated advancements in technology that’s already visible is that we are allowing ourselves to become reprogramed by our devices to be indifferent, lazy, removed and despondent. We often resort to a one-stop-shop for emotions by herding the expression of our feelings into an emoji. Are we that busy? Are we that lazy? Are we that scared? Do we just not know how anymore? No. We are just forgetting. Like a child with a shiny, new toy in his hands who easily forgets what his mother asked him to do a moment ago. What then does the mother do? She removes the toy from him temporarily so that he can reconnect with his priorities. 57 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e July 2018

This is the answer to stopping technology from robbing humanity. Not giving it more power than we give humankind. Now, more than ever, it’s becoming vital to our well-being to make a habit of periodically stepping away from our devices and stepping back into ourselves.

c) call a friend instead of texting d) play cards or a board game with friends instead of video or online activities e) bonus points: look something up in a physical dictionary

Here are some ways we can do that: 1. Consciously slow down to create space for inner-reflection and connection. By being an observer of our thoughts and feelings, we play a prominent role in self-growth and ultimately in the evolution of humanity.

6. Stop and smell the roses. That’s right, you’ve heard it for yeas and there’s a reason why. Pausing to appreciate the simple wonders in life keeps us present and in gratitude.

2. Take “time-outs” from all sources of technology. No social media, no virtual assistant, no laptop, iPad, phone, smart-watch, TV or radio. Just pure you—and another person, animal or nature, if available. Commit to giving yourself at least three times a day when you will never use technology, starting with 20-30 minute interludes. Mini-breaks throughout your day when you allow yourself to be fully present to the moment, such as: a) when you’re eating dinner b) the first half hour of each morning or last half hour before you go to bed c) when you’re sharing time with friends d) when you’re driving (you’d be surprised how many people know this isn’t safe but do it anyway) This will ground you into peace again, which is essential because if you don’t have a place of peace that you can relate to, you won’t have a place of peace to strive for—which is a pretty clear deduction that you will rarely land there. 3. Go “old-school” - Make arrangements to meet others for lunch, dinner or even just coffee. Just taking the time to talk face-to-face. Look in each other’s eyes and express openly. Maybe even laugh or cry. 4. For special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries, celebrate with parties and get-togethers. If you can’t be there in person, call them and/or mail a greeting card (I happen to know of a great greeting card company!). 5. Instead of letting computers handle so much, revert to doing things the “old-fashioned” way. At least every now and then. This will give you a sense of being hands-on with your activities and also a feeling of accomplishment. Some ideas around this are: a) pull out a cookbook instead of looking a recipe up online b) use the trial-and-error system on projects instead of going to You Tube 58 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e July 2018

However you do it, always remember the value of keeping life real amidst the distraction of technology and your devices. RoadMap to Putting Yourself Before Technology: 1 - Intentionally slow down & create down time to hear your inner self 2 - Take 20-30 minute breaks from technology throughout the day 3 - Go old-school on things you would normally use the computer for 4 - Plan parties & gatherings with real live people 5 - Do things the old-fashioned way, how you did them pre-computer 6 - Increase presence & gratitude around the wonders of life

Frequency-Infused Audios: A New Technology to Shift Reality By Ellen McDonough

Many have heard of Reiki-infused music for relaxation and meditation - but can audios also be infused with frequencies to create abundance, revitalize the body, attract a soulmate, release limiting beliefs, clear dark energy, and so much more? I know they can, as these audios have definitely worked for me! My Own Story Frequency-infused audios have helped me in so many ways, but primarily with health and healing. A few years ago I suffered with pain and extreme fatigue, as well as a series of bizarre symptoms that no one could explain. Dietary changes and supplements helped, but they didn’t cure. I saw countless health practitioners, both allopathic and holistic, but despite their best intentions, nothing changed. Suffice it to say, I felt miserable, depressed and hopeless. Fortunately, synchronicity led me to discover audio tracks infused with powerful high-frequency energies along with specific, pure intentions. I was already familiar with energy work so I decided to give them a try. Honestly when I first started listening, I felt like my energy field was being blasted with white light - then in the following days I'd undergo a detox, both physical and emotional, as if anything that didn’t match the high-frequency energies came up to be released. It wasn't always easy, but I just went with it and after a short time I'd feel much better with my symptoms eased. Other audios I’d play on a loop while I slept and when I awoke I'd feel much lighter, as if some old energy that had been weighing me down had magically lifted. Still others simply put me in a more heightened state of awareness whereas my guidance was clearer and life became more synchronistic. In short, by listening to frequency-infused audios from a number of different healers - and thereby immersing myself in high pure frequencies - one by one my symptoms gradually vanished, and my energy returned. While this wasn’t the only factor in my recovery, these audios, produced by gifted healers around the world, beyond a doubt played a key role. 61 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e July 2018

Since then I’ve used frequency-infused audios to also create abundance miracles, clear my energy field, increase intuition, and so much more. “If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.” -Nikola Tesla

For example, some audios contain talking, similar to a guided meditation but the healer is actually transmitting energies to the listener. Other audios contain music, and some have Light Language. Some audios have voice toning, where instead of a musical instrument, the healer uses their voice to transmit frequencies; still others are completely silent.

Frequencies Can Shift Physical Reality There is a new technology available called “frequency-infused audios” (also called “energy transmissions” or “energetically-encoded audios”) in which top energy healers are infusing & encoding

Also different are the ways the audios can be used: some require active listening, but many may be played on a loop during the day or while you sleep and you can bask in the high energies non-stop. A few require headphones or earbuds, but the vast majority do not.

audios with very high frequencies and pure intentions to shift or create virtually anything in life such as prosperity, success, spiritual awakening, emotional healing and so much more.

What’s important to know about playing these audios is that anyone and anything near you will also get the benefit of these frequencies, so you can broadcast healing frequencies to help other people, pets, plants, etc - even to raise the vibration of an object or room. It’s a great way to help make a positive difference in the world around you!

“The Universe doesn't speak English, it speaks frequency.” What are the Audios Like? The audios are all different, as each healer has his/her own unique style.

62 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e July 2018

This is not philosophy. This is physics.” ~ Bashar

This is how vision boards & affirmations work: they help entrain you to the frequency of what you want to create; so frequency-infused audios can be used as an effective manifestation tool. How Do They Work? Science has agreed that the world around us is comprised of vibration, energy and frequency - not just the physical world but every thought, emotion, belief, situation, etc etc also has its own unique frequency, or as Dr. Richard Bartlett puts it, “patterns of light and information”. Taking this a step further, science has also now proven that through quantum entanglement, “patterns of light and information” of any thought, emotion or intention can be imprinted on a physical object, and in turn, affect the world around us. Scientists like Dr. William Tiller and Dr. Masaru Emoto have proven this: Dr Tiller successfully altered the ph of water by imprinting an electrical circuit with this specific intention, and Dr. Emoto proved emotions alter the crystalline structure of water. The healers who create frequency-infused audios have the ability to first channel high, pure Source energies, then with focused intent, encode an mp3 with these specific frequencies. When these audios are played, their high frequencies are transmitted and new “information” is introduced into your field & into your consciousness; on the quantum level, you actually receive new Light codes & data. As your consciousness and energy field entrain to new frequencies, your physical reality begins to shift and your awareness opens to new possibilities. “Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.” ~ Bashar

to success & prosperity; if you are suffering from grief, play an emotional healing audio and you’ll find yourself entraining to higher states of peace and joy. What They Can Accomplish “Focus on frequency and be open to form” ~Wendy Kennedy Listeners of these audios have reported amazing results, often quickly. Simply by shifting your frequency, miracles can occur. For example, these audios can help: -attract abundance -clear and align chakras -clear limiting beliefs -revitalize and rejuvenate the body -balance hormones -heal grief and emotional pain -increase energy -strengthen your energy field -increase psychic ability -clear dark energy from a room and so much more! Try them for yourself!

WHEN WILL IT BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR EXTERNAL HIERARCHICAL SYSTEMS TO SURVIVE… WHEN SOLUTIONS ARE SET FREE By Michael White Ryan

There are a few among us leading the way, who have sidestepped a terrifying fact. You me we are non-other than the brothers and sisters of Pinocchio! For these few, their dawning light has penetrated egoism’s control and shattered shadows invisible boundaries. These heroic few, in this now-time, having regained their free will, have taken action beyond existing realized experiences, by positioning one’s life facing fair-square into the looking glass What madman/madwoman would dare to question their own self-discovered facts? How crazy is one who bundles up all logic, throw it down onto one’s foot, then kicks it out the front door, forever. Why does this go beyond all reason? And what better way to show this as a five-tiered pyramid in describing a hierarchy truth, of needs for us humans, beginning with the most basic of foundations, that of Survival. And running a close second is Safety. It is said by our elite scholars, we have surpassed the dark ages, we have ascended to the pinnacle of self-actualization. When sharing with others we find acceptance, I become you-me-we, it’s a drink the coolaid kind of affair. No longer feeling self-rejected by guilt, shame and fear, for in recovery blessed are we, all kissing the same hand. Once rebirthed, we get to go home, free to maintain our garbage. Keep fear close, recognize it to motivate self, this is the perfect recipe for a baloney sandwich. Stay small young skywalkers! It’s a new day, it’s a new life for me and I feel so good dum da da. If it is your wish for a happy life, leave a message and we’ll get back to you within 24 to 48 hours #. Interventions are a quintessential component within any process if we ever want to breathe clean again. Hence the obvious, “go and find you first”. For the longest millennium, one has been hiding in forests of multi layered stories of emotionally structured purpose driven mindsets. It was on an early spring Sunday morning, Mrs. Brown was sitting quietly on the front porch, as she often does, the sun lightly caressing the skin of her feet. It was through the silence, when she first heard birds in white coats singing each of our names in hexagonal language. In that one special moment she/we began the journey unto her/our true self, to make the world a better place, to find life’s purpose, responsibility, accountability, then tip toed into tulip mindfulness for a personalized enrichment of self-consumption. The first desire is “Know thy self ”, open an essence portal of newness, it’s a necessary process when facing down, into the past. Nothing is what it seems and yet it is, an encompassing, all as it’s supposed to be, creation.

Find this function within, not from a book, but from the enquiry that speaks for change. Only from within love can acceptance be allowed, banish those mind games which suck the juice out of life. 6 keys

to detox your body and raise your

frequency level By Roxana Jones

As people continue to become more conscious of their own power to change their lives, it is easy to hear the word “detox” among all sorts of health-related discussions and conversations. As people continue to become more conscious of their own power to change their lives, it is easy to hear the word “detox” among all sorts of health-related discussions and conversations. The health industry has become precisely that, an industry producing all types of manufactured products to fulfill all consumer needs. So, questions one could ask would be: Do you really need manufactured products in order to get a proper detox treatment? Can you learn how to detox yourself by simply correcting certain negative habits, while taking the necessary steps to include new ones in your life? Many years ago I became very interested in learning how to heal myself. There was this knowing inside of me telling me that somehow, even if we weren’t medical doctors, we all had the ability to heal and avoid disease. Besides, I was completely dedicated to finding out how to raise my vibrational frequency, so many hours of research and learning were invested until I could feel confident enough to heal myself and be successful at it. The following six keys are the ones I use to detox myself regularly. These practices have transformed my life in the most unbelievable ways. I hope they can bring permanent wellbeing to you as well. 1. Breathing We can go months without food, and days without water but we can only survive a few minutes without oxygen. There are many benefits to deep conscious breathing, and detoxing the body is one of them. Breathing is the first of my six recommended keys for a proper detox, because all the others require that you learn how to breathe deeply on a daily basis. Why is breathing so important? It is the bridge between your outer self and your inner self. It is what connects your body with your mind and soul. Your body, mind and soul must work together through proper breathing in order for you to cleanse and raise your frequency. People who live in cities are most likely to be oxygen deprived. Wherever you live, find ways to stay close to nature, visit parks, walk and breathe fresh air daily. Find a good set of breathing techniques to help you improve the way you breathe. Also, find out more about oxygen therapies. I currently add oxygen to my drinking water and the results continue to be miraculous. 2. Mindfulness The concept of mindfulness has been in fashion for a while now, and is used by many who are dedicated to yoga, meditation, the power of the mind, and other related areas. Regardless of its popularity, there are not too many that understand the deeper meaning of the word. One of the definitions I found explains it as “the state or quality of being mindful or aware of something.” This gives you a general idea, but beyond that, mindfulness is the way you become aware of the difference between the ego-mind and your true Self, between your negativity and positivity.

In the mind is where ANY detox treatment should begin, if you truly want to raise your frequency level. For an effective detox you need to purify your thoughts and beliefs, by learning about the ego, and understanding the negative habits that don’t belong to you and need to leave your life. How do you become mindful? You become mindful through the consistent and disciplined practice of meditation. 3. Meditation The best way to understand your mind is through meditation. When you learn to meditate and you are ready to discipline your mind to practice it daily, you are using a powerful tool that not only allows you to enter your mind to cleanse it, purify it, and upgrade it, but you are also able to go deeper than the mind, to access your heart. Through the heart you are able to raise your vibrational frequency much higher than when you are only using your mind. I started meditating many years ago, small doses at first. Now, I do it as soon as I wake up and also before going to bed. I usually meditate for an hour each time but you can do it for less as long as you connect with your true Self every day. When you meditate, your intuition grows and it is much easier to listen your true Self, who has so many secrets that can help you detoxify in more holistic, permanent and profound ways. 4. Water We all know the importance of drinking water to stay hydrated and release toxins. Depending on the source of information, our physical bodies are considered to be composed of 70 to 80% water. However, when it comes to using water to detox yourself, it is not so much about the quantity of water your body is made of, or the amount you need to drink, as it is about the quality of the water you are drinking. For many years, I felt safe drinking bottled spring water until one day I started researching on the amount of chemicals and other unwanted substances I was putting into my body. On the one hand I was supposedly detoxifying my body but on the other, I was putting new toxics through the water I drank!

73 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e July 2018

Today, I use distilled water as much as possible, after learning that it cannot deplete me from the minerals my body needs. I have noticed drastic positive changes in my digestive system and pH levels since I started using this type of water, my body simply “feels” its benefits. There are two types of minerals, organic and inorganic minerals. Your body needs organic minerals, and those are the ones you must ingest through the plant-based food you must eat on a daily basis. Contrary to what is believed, our physical body doesn’t need inorganic minerals, which are what they usually put into the water that is sold as “mineral water.” As with everything else, do your own research and follow your intuition. You need to start using the type of water that is aligned with your detox efforts, not against them. 5. Purging Talking about parasites can be uncomfortable and not many are ready to accept it as an indispensable topic to be addressed in a proper detox. You cannot raise your frequency level if your digestive system has not been purged thoroughly from any unwanted living organisms, so that it can rejuvenate, regenerate, and work optimally. Besides the parasites we could be carrying, there are also many toxic and harmful substances we may have been ingesting since childhood, such as heavy metals and other chemicals that accumulate in the body over time and are suspected of triggering dangerous diseases. An adequate purge can take months when done with the required commitment and following a proven protocol that uses natural remedies. Besides my oxygen therapy to increase oxygen levels throughout my digestive system, I also use castor oil as it helps to regulate vowel movements and heal any constipation issues that must be healed before any detox program can be truly effective. 6. Food In the world we live today, it is difficult to completely avoid toxins. There are simply too many sources and contaminants out there, junk food, stress, smog, vehicle emissions, airborne fungal spores, pesticides, pollution, and the list goes on. Following a diet high in detox foods is one of the best ways to maintain your wellbeing and continue raising your vibration. 72 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e July 2018

A plant-based diet is ideal when it comes to getting the highest amounts of vitamins and minerals your body needs. Make sure you are eating the following foods daily, even if you are not vegetarian or vegan. All these are great additions to anyone’s diet. • raw vegetables that include green foods • fresh and seasonal fruits • seeds and nuts • garlic • lemon and limes • omega 3-oils • green tea Last but not least, the food you eat should be contributing to the optimal health of the organs responsible for detoxifying your body: your liver, kidneys, lungs, lymph, colon and skin. I hope this article has served you as an introduction to how you can live a healthy, more conscious life, at the same time that you clean your body, mind and soul, raise your frequency level, and help the planet to raise its frequency level too. If you have any questions, send me a not by using my contact form here on my web and I will gladly respond as soon as possible. Until next time!

Healing waters of the Heart By Jayita Bhattacharjee

76 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e July 2018

A wound that breathes in pain is a hurt in the crevice of heart. That very pain is an opening into the deepest parts of us, which is beautiful and tender, and all that was aching begins to breathe into life again. Being engulfed with a loss that seems unbearable, calls you to begin your search so you can find that rarest gem, which will tell you that all is ephemeral. Look inside you, as there is the flowing of the unending waters of peace---the running brook of bliss, one that floods you with the healing that you so longed for. Feel what you feel intensely, cry away the pain that is burning you inside, so your tears can be the very light of a heart glowing in strength and glory. Those are the pristine waters of your heart, the signs of your strength and not your weakness. That is how a new soul is born, in the light of a new vision, by ripping away the old one that was sinking for so long in grief. This is the journey of heart and soul that rediscovers itself, as it sails in the sacred ocean of healing waters. This is when you discover who you are, your being as a sacred temple. That stands as a testimony to all the struggles withstood, the storms endured in the light of divine. From this enduring, flows out what was sealed inside, and your healing waters begin to flow. Nothing in this universe is more flexible in beauty and more giving and yielding than water. This is its intrinsic nature. Yet none can challenge its strength as nobody knows to stand up to it. So, the flexible can overcome that which wants to stand still, it can uproot the hard and non-yielding. How does it overcome the rigid and the brutal agony? Does the water cut across the rock, does it flow through the rocks that threaten the path of happiness? No, it bypasses it. It goes around it.

What it cannot go through, it makes another route, so as to keep the flow continual, not a temporal one. You heal with the sacred waters of your heart, you let them flow, so you can flow again like a river flows, never caught by the surprises coming along the way, only unfolding at every twist and turn that comes as a sudden surprise. Be soft, be flexible and then begin to flow again. Begin, and you can rise again, stronger than before, beauteous than before. Such is the firmness in beauty of the healing waters, that runs in the brook of life. This is the heavenliness of healing waters, its beauty that lies in its softness, turns out to be its marvelous strength. You rinse yourself of the hurt that was holding you back, and embrace the healing, so your guarded heart will be unguarded, locked heart will be unlocked, leashed emotions will be unleashed, the feet that was shackled from moving forward, will be unshackled again. Hearts covered up in grief will be uncovered again, and healing will find its way through this sacred opening of your heart. You become awakened, that wisdom lies in walking away with a wordless prayer in your heart, in leaving the past where it belongs, and walking the path again, where falls the first light of dawn. Sometimes healing pours like rain. It comes as the healing waters falling from the bliss of Beyond, to wash away your unsayable pain. And out comes a soul who does not see a hopeless ending, but a beautiful shore. This is the beauty that endures all and still finds a way to shine in your heart. You become mad and passionate once again, learning to see a new vista, that you never saw before. Life brings you a new freedom, freedom from grief while it blesses you with its sacred gifts, the gifts of healing and rinsing. Heaven saw something beautiful in someone, and rained itself through the healing, so they could find their way back to you. While you explored the landscape of your own soul going through varied phases of life, it was those trials that gifted you the healing waters that gave birth to an enduring you where you left your yesterdays behind and learned to walk in the light of a fearless heart. No matter what life threw at you, you still found it a beautiful place, you found a new horizon. With every breath that you have, you did not cease to worship life, you accepted the invitation of life and you love it back one more time. You love the very breath and heartbeat of life and just when you were about to give up on it, it is life that found you back to its breath, not to leave you but to love you, not to hurt you but to embrace you, not to let you go but to hold on to

you. No healing comes easy, the washing away of your pain does not come without a vulnerability. And it is the vulnerability that takes you to the deepest places of your heart from where is born the most raw and bare emotions, that can bring out the best in you. For you to heal, you need to walk in the fierce courage and this is the fierceness that will set you free. As this very fierceness will need you to open up your deepest wounds. You dare to unfold your soul, raw and bare to this world and pour out your pain in the form of healing tears. Life never travels in a straight line. It always meanders like a meandering brook, that knows how to pass the rocks by and flow again. This is the brook that runs inside you to give you the essential wisdom of living.
