THE ORIGINAL PURPOSE OF MTV WAS TO PLAY MUSIC VIDEOS ALL DAY, GUIDED BY VIDEO JOCKEYS
TODAY
MTV has now turned away from it’s original purose of showing music videos Today, television shows and reality shows take up all of it’s air time Even though the MTV Music Awards still go on to this day, most of the musical roots of MTV have been lost

Music acts take up most of their stage space, but comedy shows also take place. The Club also host private events. The space has 3 stages within it and 2 bars. The Canopy Club also partners with Manolo’s, a pizza place, to offer concessions. You can buy tickets for the events at the Club at their box office, Manolo’s, or Exile Records.

YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL
“I wanted to do things that mattered in the world.” DAWN HANCOCK Founder of Firebelly
Firebelly was a small office space of a team of 8 -10 people. The space was two stories. On the first floor, there was a private office, 9 workstations equipt with a computer, file drawer, and tack board, 2 tables used as collaborative space, a full kitchen, a bathroom, and storage in back. On the second floor there is another kitchen, a meeting space with a pool table, and another office for the non-profit organization Firebelly works with called Reason To Give. There was a chalkboard wall by the collaborative space that was covered in Post-It notes and positive messages.
Firebelly Design’s Website
Firebelly is a very relaxed environment. The space was filled with greenery. They know what they like and work to fit that. The Space Mixed Old with New and Had Many Plants

CHARACTER
MTV is a well known company with very strong branding. With the force of it’s boldness, the image of the company will be maintained and valued in the space. This will be done with the use of their logo throughout the entire space and just keeping the space simple yet using bold colors that pop.
DENSITY
ZONE 1
Efficient use of space will be planned to avoid dead space and maximize the possibilities within. This will be done by intertwining the spaces with one another. Each space will have multiple uses.
COLLABORATION ZONE
ZONE 2
Space that will benefit each other will be integrated to allow people to have the best experience in the space as possible. The public floors will be the first, ground, and sub level. These levels are easily accessible to customers. Whereas the office spaces is intended to be a little more private and elevated from the public spaces.

HIERARCHY
MTV OFFICE
RECORD STORE & CAFE
The MTV offices are the most important in the space, aside from bringing life and music back into the corporation. This is apparent with the elevation of their offices and the amount of music related spaces in the building.
MEZZANINE AREA
No area overpowers another, they all build off of each other. Without music there would be no corporation.
CONCERT HALL
MIXED FLOW
With the versatile occupants of this space, there has to be an allowance for people to travel any way they desire. Many functions and activities will be going on at the same time, so with a space that has multiple paths of flow, it will come at ease to get where wanted.
FLEXIBILITY
Keeping growth in mind, this space will have many different areas to accommodate every individual. Also, the areas that are more defined can be converted to different arrangements and creative spaces.

Concert Hall with Bar & Recording Studio
Stienert Hall has amazing architecture and detailing in all of this forgotten features. The detailing on the grand stair case and the columns are the two main features I want to keep and even accentuate. The building behind the stage with be used employee and band uses only. The stairs to access this space from the Ground Level will be secured, as well as the elevator.
Everything else in the space will renovated and updated to be functionable with the space.
GROUND LEVEL
Mezzanine with Bar & Box Office
This floor is used as a second entrance, mainly for purchases at the box office. The stairs near the box office will be secured so no one can go downstairs to the private green room area. Also, with the entrances on the side of the building, the bar on this level can stay open even when events are taking place.
Along with the media walls playing concerts and videos. televisions will be placed randomly throughout the space doing the same.
1ST FLOOR Cafe & Record Store
< Media walls will be installed in the space to live stream events and to play music videos when there is not anything happening. The main focus of this floor is a wall of records that customers or even employees can choose the music that is being played. >
2ND FLOOR
MTV Office & Graphic Design Office
POSSIBILITIES This floor is used to create and inspire. It will house both office spaces. Branding is heavily intertwined into the space, along with the concept of the layers of earth. Ground, Atmosphere, and Space are linked in with the materials and finishes.

BRANDING & MEDIA WALLS
ETC Branding
Media Wall
Branding is a very strong feature in the MTV company. The new graphic design company, etc., will start it’s own brand, hopefully growing to be as strong. With this design, walls and objects will be branded and exaggerated.
SUB LEVEL
Media walls will also link MTV back to it’s original roots by playing music videos constantly, like they used to. When the concert hall is hosting an event, live streams of it will be played on these walls.

SECOND FLOOR
PERSPECTIVE OF MTV OFFICE
The choice of furniture was made due to the versatile ways that Steelcase furniture can be arranged. Also, wayfinding and branding are some of the main features in the space.
PERSPECTIVE OF MTV OFFICE
This office space also maximizes the natural light that enters the space. Daylight and colorful yet simple pieces are used to benefit the productivity of the workers.
PERSPECTIVE OF GRAPHIC DESIGN OFFICE
etc. takes more of a natural role in their space. Earthy yet creative tones flood the space. The same flooring is used throughout the space to link the two together.

Sustainability is a big part of construction and renovation today. We want to make buildings last as long as they can. Steinert Hall was abandoned because of water damage and it’s lack of sustainability.

With this renovation, many considerations will be thought about and taken into consideration.
< Exterior of building
ADAPTIVE REUSE
<
Interior Shots before renovation
This renovation is happening in an existing building. By reusing the buiilding and creating new life in it, Boston can use the other untouched site for the future. This space is suppose to be making the present and even the past better for the future.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION MAPS
Boston is a moving city. People always have somewhere to be. Public transportation is a great feature in the city to get people around. Buses, subways, and ferries offer ways of transportation throughout the city.
Public transportation plays a huge role in this project. With some of the space being a bar, having safe ways for occupants to get home is always a plus!
RAIN WATER HARVEST & WATER USE REDUCTION
Installations will be mounted on the roof of the building to lead the rain water to pipes that will then be store under the building. The water will be filtered and recycled in the grey water supply.
In this old multi-storied building, new rain water harvesting pipes will be installed to gather the grey water to be used in all of the restrooms throughout the building. This toilet by Kohler uses 20% less water than the standard 1.6 gallon toilet.
SUSTAINABLE FINISHES
This design finishes the space with materials that are good for the environment and the space itself. Recylced materials are used, same with paint that does not harm the air supply, and a flooring that is easily renewable are main focuses.

ENERGY SAVING LIGHTING
Aside from taking advantage of the day light that pours through the windows, LEDs will be used in almost all of the light fixtures. This will dramatically reduce the use of energy in the space.
