GOALS:
-Introduce transparency in the space to bring in more natural light and to draw the community towards the center -Use color to bring more life into the space -Create a more welcoming and open space
SITE PLAN
2
Previously the site has been a largely forgotten area with a hidden park and a forgotten about parking lot. This proposal indicates plantings introduced into the parking lot, and around the perimeter of the building, to mimic the “spokes that exist in the front entry of the space. The planters should be filled with flowers or other colorful plants to bring in even more color. This proposal also calls for a teaching garden, community garden area, and sitting areas.
Back entrance The back entrance of the building had previously been unused and in need of more life. The new proposal suggests areas for a larger community garden, teaching gardens, and sitting areas. The goal for this space is that it is appreciated and that visitors can come in from the front entrance or the back entrance in a more welcoming way.

RAMP / ENTRY
The idea for the proposed front facade is to incorporate ways to lighten the space and feel welcoming to the public. It currently has ramps that blocks the view, the color is very opaque and does not emphasize all the activities that goes on in The Butzel Family Center. The proposed solution is to introduce color as a way revitalize the building, use banners that could be changed over time to emphasize activities that are currently happening, and also a new design for the stairs and ramps to draw more people in.

Exterior modifications
The exterior modifications introduces new window openings as an opportunity to bring more natural light into the building as well as an opportunity to introduce color to the exterior. In front of the windows, the design proposes to incorporate color perforated metal fins in order to give privacy to the offices to which the openings are attached to as well as color and pattern to the exterior. The fins have green on one side and blue on another, to change your experience based on which way you view the building. Another addition for the exterior are banners that could be changed over time in order to give information about current events, show activities that are going on in the community and to give information about what services are offered in the center.

Natural Lighting plan arrows are PROPOSED windows
A major goal for the revitalization of the Butzel Family Center is to bring in more light. The solution to this is to open up more windows and to remove the tint from the existing glass. Another method is to convert existing interior walls into glass walls to bring in more light to the center of the space that would otherwise be lacking light.

ENTRY The entrance is currently heavy, dark and without wayfinding, For the proposed entrance, the balcony is white, and the desk is re-designed to mimic the color and shape of the balcony to not distract from the proposed wayfinding that is painted on the brick walls surrounding the desk.

ATRIUM SPACES
UP
The atriums are the connecting points to all of the spaces and where events happen. Currently, the atriums are heavy and lifeless. To make this a more energetic space, brighter colors and materials were added to the columns, and the fins. Murals are added in the proposed images of popular Detroit sports teams and Ford cars on the ceiling above to bring life to the entire space, not only the occupied space.

Assembly
EXISTING 12
The Assemblyv is a multi use space for eating, events, classes and more. This space feels heavy and lifeless. To bring life into the space a mural is painted around the edge of the room to help make it feel not so empty and adding green stripes to the floor to bring in a brightness to the space. Adding 4 new windows to the back wall brings in more natural light.
