Our Beginnings. Not long ago, before Raleigh Reclaimed became what it is today—a group of skilled workers and artisans housed under one 70,000 square foot roof— two parallel paths were destined to come together.

eclaiming wood is how Raleigh Reclaimed was born. It’s our history and part of what we do today. But what truly defines us is this simple philosophy. “We reclaim what
matters.” For us, it means reclaiming values and ideals of craftsmanship, family and community. In this day and age, it might sound a bit old school and we are OK with that. It’s what sets us apart.
Located in the heart of North Carolina, we are a family owned and operated company that uses locally sourced wood to create custom, handcrafted pieces rich in character. Together with our community of craftsmen, woodworkers and metalsmiths, we put our heads, hearts and hands into every product we make. Whether we’re transforming a reclaimed beam into a mantel or an old growth black walnut into a conference room table, our mission is to create objects that are sacred and timeless.

Working as an engineer for the State of North Carolina, Billy Keck traversed the rural and often forgotten beauty of the state’s countryside. He marveled at the abandoned barns and rustic mills and warehouses scattered across the fertile lands of North Carolina. The seed of curiosity was planted. Inside these spaces he found breathtakingly imperfect woods, soulful and filled with rich character, sacred objects unearthed from the past. The curious craftsman was born and from his tiny shared studio and carport, Billy began to curate the wood he found and use it to craft charactered objects and furniture.
Melody’s head for business and Billy’s heart for craftsmanship turned out to be a perfect match. Their distinct experience and skills drew them together and elevated one another. And for all their differences, their similarities ran deep. They shared small-town mountain roots, a fierce work ethic, and a love of design. Together, they embody the feeling and quality of working with an old friend with the capacity and breadth of a much larger, more sophisticated enterprise. Their combination is like the products they make and sell—striking, distinctive pieces filled with character yet classic enough to stand the test of time and trends.

While Billy was developing his craft, Melody Ray was building a career as a business litigation attorney across the state. After years of supporting and guiding other corporations, she wanted to use her experience and expertise to create something personal – to build her own venture.
Their professional partnership evolved into a perfect match for them personally. Soon they began building their life and family together. Today their three children are growing up in the business—spending their days witnessing the energy, dedication and passion of their parents and the talented craftsmen who have become their extended family. Together Raleigh Reclaimed is built on the belief that reclaiming what matters is a real and worthy goal.

everal years ago, while building our house, Raleigh Reclaimed was recommended to us to provide design accents with barn wood. When we visited their facility, we were amazed at the unique and beautiful pieces of furniture that Billy and his team created. That visit began our partnership. Raleigh Reclaimed built our dining room table, accent tables, shelves, child’s train table, and more! We found that their work, from planning to delivery blew away the competition in terms of quality, customization, construction, the beauty of wood, cost, and attention to detail. When it came time to move our business, we needed about 60 new desks. After researching multiple furniture places, we found ourselves back at Raleigh Reclaimed. With a larger order, Billy quoted us a reasonable and discounted amount. Now we are enjoying the desks and even decided to have them make our conference room tables. When guests enter our building, one of the first things they are drawn to is the gorgeous desks. Their design is timeless, classic, and durable. You can do jumping jacks on these tables, and they do not flex! The only negative is that any pressboard furniture will look cheap next to the high-quality wood. We highly recommend Raleigh Reclaimed! The quality, price, and service are exceptional and in a league of their own. We will use them in every project going forward.

ith over one hundred species of tree in the area, North Carolina has been shaped by wood for hundreds of years. From commercial use that lead to the westward expansion of the United States, and the paper industry, which found a reliable use for southern pine, our lives are forever rooted in the trees around us. Here at Raleigh Reclaimed, we began conversations with local sawmills and sawyers in our community and found that many large
specialty trees were ending up at their facility to rot or being turned into mulch. Some of these trees were too big to be cut on production lines, or the logs were not a species of wood milled or sold by most production sawmills in the area. Even though these trees were freshly sawn and not what we consider “reclaimed” material, we feel like we are reclaiming life for them. These trees will end up as feature pieces for families and businesses, rather than rotting in landfills or on sawmill yards.

With our own sawmill and vacuum kiln, our business is vertically integrated to allow us to meet customer needs and timelines in a way that few businesses can. And, clients can maximize their space and design an environment that works best for their business needs. A corporate client can come to one place to order a custom reception desk, employee desks, conference tables, shelving, and accent wall materials. We have the capacity for large productions and are small enough to respond with agility to changes in construction schedules and installation plans. The team was terriďŹ c to work with. They accommodated our needs with professionalism while keeping within deadline and budget. We needed custom desks and ergonomic computer stations in this unconventional space. We also needed a custom conference room table. I visited the facility while the desks and table were being fabricated and was so impressed by the quality of work that we ordered more pieces. We added an industrial reception desk, a counter ledge and a playful, live-sized, tree cut-out for the recreation space. MARCELL GILES Marcell has been with our team since the beginning. He started by working on the line, moving boards and processing material. Now he knows our business and our product better than anyone and clients call us every week to compliment his outstanding customer service. Marcell’s attitude

We talk about how Raleigh Reclaimed is a family-owned and operated business. We also have a family within a family here - the father and sons of the Cox family. DR E W COX Drew oversees our finishing department. He is responsible for the finish on every piece that leaves our shop. Drew also happens to be our very own Renaissance Man. He is constantly making obscure references from literary works and films - and somehow manages to make us all laugh every day especially when he sings Stevie Nicks at the top of his lungs.
M ATT COX Matt is a talented craftsman who takes on our toughest custom furniture pieces. He is the guy who is here early and stays late. Matt runs the shop floor and is the glue that holds this place together most days. He also happens to know more about fashion than all the rest of us put together and that isn’t just because he has two teenage daughters. R O N COX Ron ran his own cabinet-making business here in Raleigh for more than 40 years. Both Drew and Matt experienced growing up and working in their family business. When Ron retired, Matt and Drew joined Raleigh Reclaimed. After a couple of years of living the retired life, Ron decided he missed woodworking and wanted to join our team. We are thankful that Ron brought all that knowledge and experience over to Raleigh Reclaimed. Plus, he keeps Drew in line.
The quality of our work is only as good as the hardware that supports it. That’s why here at Raleigh Reclaimed in addition to our wood products, we produce all of our own metal table bases, brackets and hardware. This ensures our products are supported by strong, high-quality materials that are specifically designed for your table or other wood projects.
