ARCHITECTURE WORK SAMPLE SITE + SETTING: Architecture should be MINDFUL of the land form
it inhabits. Architecture should take advantage of the landscape and COMPLIMENT the site, whether it is acting as a natural extension of the site, or it is acting as a foil, in order to HIGHLIGHT the site by contrast. Good architecture should not take away but ENHANCE the site by activating and renewing activity and life surrounding it. FORM + CONTEXT: Architecture should be a CRITICAL response to the context in which it is built. The form of the building should be RECEPTIVE of the surrounding context, content, and urban fabric of the city. Good architecture should not only be RESPECTFUL towards social, ecological, and economic issues, but should also enhance the public’s AWARENESS of these defining circumstances. Architecture should encourage a DIALOGUE between the people, place, and time. Space + Movement: Architecture is a SYMPHONY of spaces coming together. Well designed spaces should enhance one’s experience through a CRAFTED spatial sequence moving from one space to another. The spatial sequence and movement should be thoughtful and MEANINGFUL, a deliberate procession that celebrates the space and what it provides the occupant. MATERIAL + CONSTRUCTION:: Material should be HONEST and constructed with INTEGRITY. The manner in which the chosen material is used should reflect its strength and beauty. Material should be THOUGHTFUL in its relation to the site. The materiality and construction method of a building should be mindful of the economy and SUSTAINABILITY of the building and its lifetime. DETAIL + ARTICULATION: Architectural detail and articulation should highlight and reflect the integrity of the building. There should be a DELIBERATE articulation to the attitude and movement of the building. Details should be more than just decoration; they should project a meaningful language that EMBODIES the building as a whole.
