MISSION/PURPOSE Building a strong community in West Orange and the surrounding communities is the mission of West Orange African Heritage Organization (WOAHO). Founded in 1999, WOAHO is a voice for and a center of action to advance: Ø academic student achievement and educational advocacy Ø equity, justice and a high quality of life for all our community Ø responsible citizenship and participation in municipal governance Ø awareness and appreciation for the contributions of the diverse cultures of people of African descent WOAHO serves its membership and community by offering cultural, networking and social events. Through its business memberships, WOAHO promotes businesses owned by persons of African descent, as well as local businesses. WOAHO is a leader in community service efforts. It conducts annual campaigns to: Ø benefit our local food pantry Ø provide school supplies for students Ø donate gifts for children in need during the holiday season WOAHO also advocates for diversity in appointments and hiring throughout the township.
