CONNECT cour tyard

My design employed the use of lines of extension between entry & exit points from the four dorms that encapsulate the cour tyard. I used these lines of extension and subdivisions within to influence each space. This new cour tyard holds a large gathering terrace at its center where students can hold meetings, club fairs, graduation celebrations, or during the semester as a study area. Within the spaces, the trees, and the foliage I aimed to frame the g ro u n d , t h e s ky, a n d va r i o u s p o i n t s of interest. The cour tyard sparks c u r i o s i t y, e n c o u ra g e s re l a xa t i o n , and breathes new life into an underutilized par t of campus.

El Paso Deck Park 20

El Paso Deck Park Spring 2023 Professor: Michael Averitt Landscape Design Studio IV

This technical drawing studio project was focused on designing an ‘onstructure’ deck park situated over the

Orientation Site Plan

I-10 freeway passing by downtown El

INTEGRATE freeway cap

Paso, TX. Calling attention to the two eco-regions that surround El Paso, this project employed the concept of water management and reuse to drive the design. The site slopes gradually from the west corner down to the east corner where the required presidential library of our choice was carefully oriented. The following pages highlight a portion of the technical drawings that were a part of the complete sheet set of DD level drawings required for our final review.

THE LINK competition

The Link at Coopers Point provides an impressive example of a mixeduse, mixed-income development that ser ves as a gateway to connect the broader Nor th Charleston community to the Noisette Preser ve and Cooper River. The site has been given a new life, a drastic shift from its industrial past into a place where community members can thrive and feel more connected to the historic landscape and the people who make this community flourish. Constructed out of mass timber, this LEED cer tified mixed-use development is guided by three pillars: Remedy community assets, Restore environmental resources and Revive health and connectivity. This framework has guided our design process as a model for a sustainable and resilient future for all of Nor th Charleston to enjoy. My job on the five person team was to create a 3d model using Rhino, design the landscape for the site, and render the environment using Twinmotion for our final presentation boards. These renders can be seen across the next few pages.

ECOREGIONS campus

This project looks at the existing site of the Austin State Hospital in Austin, TX. Tasked with re-designing the 95 acre campus, this project used the natural ridgeline of the existing site as a catalyst, this proposed amplified ridgeline acts as a division between private and public sides of the new Austin State Hospital campus. This new ridge also symbolizes the border, the city of Austin lies upon, between the Blackland Prairie and the Texas Hill Countr y ecoregions. The right (east ) side of the site will feature public park space, community centered buildings, and general HHSC buildings. It also features the Blackland Prairie planting structure, being on the east side of the ridgeline. The left (west ) side of the site will feature private park space, the main hospital, residential buildings, and therapeutic gardens for the patients living on site. These western areas are composed of planting communities that resemble the Texas Hill Countr y ecoregion.

Installation & Design Experience Summers 2020 - 2023

PRACTICE austin, tx

In the summers of ‘20 & ‘21, I worked on the install crew for Kinghorn Gardens in Omaha, NE. As a small design build company, I was able to work on a wide range of projects from small residential to large commercial installations. I learned a lot about how landscape projects are physically constructed & maintained, and had an introduction to plant identification and layout prior to star ting graduate school here at UT. In August of 2022, I designed and installed a back fence project for my parents, acting as a buffer between the yard and the back fence. In the summers of ‘22 & ‘23, I worked as a design intern at Word + Carr Design Group, a landscape design build firm in Austin, TX. At WCDG, I helped project managers put together SD and DD drawing sets for client presentations, gathered site data, worked on office drawing standards, and honed my skills working together with a team of designers in a professional setting. The following pages include selected drawings I completed while employed as an intern at Word + Carr Design Group.
