C o u r t y a r d
My design employed the use of lines of extension between entr y & exit points from the four dorms that encapsulate the cour tyard. I used these lines of extension and subdivisions within to influence each space. This new cour tyard holds a large gathering terrace at its center where students can hold meetings, club fairs, graduation celebrations, or during the semester as a study area. Within the spaces, the trees, and the foliage I aimed to frame the g r o u n d , t h e s k y, a n d v a r i o u s p o i n t s of interest. The cour tyard sparks c u r i o s i t y, e n c o u r a g e s r e l a x a t i o n , and breathes new life into an underutilized par t of campus.

Sound Lab is a skill share music hall. Divided into three distinct programs, the space contains merchandise (market hall), talent (concert hall), and skill (music hall) after the three byproducts of a musician. Dedicated to the production and distribution of music, Sound Lab offers the community of Benson a creative environment at the threshold of downtown. Additionally, there is a strong focus on balancing public and private spaces, while also negotiating views down Benson’s commercial corridor and Radial Highway. Programmatic efficiency offers the Sound Lab a diverse way of interacting with the space including a performance stair, as well as hinged and sliding area expansions. Lastly, the two floors of this music hall are united through large public spaces, continually stressing a skill share mentality.

Located at 1489 Longfellow Street in Detroit and given a half lot, measuring 22 feet wide, I was tasked at utilizing setbacks to my advantage. Following the zoning requirements for the rigid exterior, this project displays a very experimental, organic, and earth-like interior. As one enters the residence they are met with an unexpected brightness and modernity. The walls are made of plaster and have the feeling of a sunlit cave. It’s four different floors make up for its slenderness and give the home a feeling of exploration. This divided home is made of structural brick displayed on the exterior, juxtaposing the completely plastered interior. There is parking accessed via a small driveway as well as from the rear alley. A walkway to the parking space is met with a lush perennial garden that reflects the fluidity of the interior. The interior of this residence is meant to be experimental and push the boundaries of what is considered ‘liveable.’

Children’s Theater of Lincoln Fall 2019 Professor: Craig Babe DSGN Studio: Organize
T h e a t e r
I took a formal approach to organizing a proposed theater for the youth of Lincoln, NE. Located in the haymarket, this center of the arts would serve as a home for the Children’s Theater of Lincoln, while providing opportunities for many other art displays and gatherings to take place. Using a centralized triangular outdoor courtyard, I proceeded to create a program of open and theatrical spaces. This central courtyard allows for an expansion of the Black Box theater that resides within. It transforms and blends the space between performance and seating. Each space is an opportunity for some sort of performance to occur whether it be art, sculptures, cast meet and greets, or live performances. The sunken entrance comes alive through the natural features that seem to exude from the front door onto the sidewalks above. A building that breathes performance and adaptability.

Laboratories of New Worlds Spring 2019 Professor: Nathalie Frankowski (WAI Thinktank) DSGN Studio: Ideation
Art Studio
Laboratories of New Worlds explores through research and design the relationship of pure form and architectural ambition. It invites to reconceptualize the role of the radical workshop in contemporary society, creating a collective of spaces for reclaiming avant-garde spatial and programmatic strategies in order to explore its limits, challenges and potential. Given the pure form of the ‘cube,’ I was tasked to find artists that work in similar geometry. For the exterior condition I chose a furniture piece from Donald Judd, while for the interior condition I chose a rockite model from David Umemoto. These pieces working in conjunction create a unique environment for students to work and experiment in. The main level houses the art and design studio. The second level of the building acts as an art gallery representing work by Judd and Umemoto, while the two floors above acts as a gallery for the students who are experimenting and studying there.

Brutal Bliss Fall 2018 Professor: Marc Maxey DSGN Studio: Representation
Bath House
The site for this project is located in Woods Park, Lincoln, NE. The program requirements of this bath house is a lobby, gender neutral bathrooms, showers, changing areas, lockers, and 3 ‘bathing’ pools (hot, warm, cold). The experimentation of combining brutalist style with an organic grotto-like interior, creates a unique experience for the city of Lincoln. Met by a large floor of solid water and three separated pools sunk into the floor, the user is always in contact with the water allowing them to become a part of the space. Vertical and horizontal aperatures of light enter through voids in the thick walls, allowing wind and the elements to enter the interior space. The heat from the bath(s), the radiant floor heating system, and the concrete acting as a thermal mass, provides enough heat to keep the space warm even in a cold climate.
